View Full Version : What to do with stock RE-92s?

Well, I'm only ~700 miles into my LGT but as a norther winter approaches I can't help but feel like I had better shoes for my car. I remember how much better I liked the way my WRX handled in the winter with ContiExtremeContacts than I did with the RE92s, so I'm tempted to get a set of those for the LGT.
The thing is... what do you do with hardly used RE92s? I'm looking for suggestions here (and I'm sure I'll get some sarcastic ones :) ). I don't expect to get anywhere close to retail for them, but it would be nice to be able to sell them for some amount of money to offset the cost for new tires.
Have people sold these before? If so, where and how? And if you shipped them, how does one go about shipping tires from one location to another? It's not something easily boxed up and taken to the post office.

Tire swing
Those things that hang off the side of boats to prevent then from hitting the dock.
Engine stands
Planters in the south
They sell them what do you think they do? See http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71218

Part them out with stock wheels. You should get some takers that would like a full size spare.

Obviously, I'd like to sell them. I was just looking to see what folks had the best luck with. Craigslist, eBay, forums, etc.? That and the logistics of shipping a set of tires is something I'm interested in hearing about as I've never done that before.
As for the wheels and tires, I don't think I'm ready to drop $$$ on new wheels at this point. I'd be happy with just new rubber.
Or, I guess I can cruise around for 30k wishing I had different tires like I did on my WRX. It'll make me appreciate the new tires that much more if I do. :)

I would try craigslist to sell them. People on forums like NASIOC and LegacyGT.com make them out much worse than the tires really are so no one wants to buy them on these places making them sell for bottom dollar.
My wife(LGT is her car) actually does not mind the RE92's now at 37k. She has done two mild seacoast NH winters on them and never complained. However she really knows how to drive in the snow on crappy all-seasons.

Donate them to a tugboat company:

They are worthless as anything more than that.

Interestingly enough I noticed a smaller tugboat in Portsmouth NH had half worn Michelin X-Ice winter tires as bumpers. They stuck out due to odd tread pattern.

Get a full set of Rims and Tires for your winter package. Then you can swap between the sets in the fall & spring. That's what I do with my truck and will probably do the same for my Subie.

I'd sell them to non Subaru drivers.
Especially if they're looking for cheap tires to their +1 size, aftermarket summer wheels:
(ie: my coworkers VW Beetle, my bro-in-law's Mazda 3)

Find a big hill. Lay them flat, and put some food for squirrels on the inside. When they go to eat it, quickly lift the tire and push it down the hill. Give that little guy the ride of his life.
