View Full Version : Since the Subaru community owes so much to Colin McRae...

We at NASIOC are already in conversations with SUBARU to see where to send the proceeds of an upcoming decal to be designed once we have an approval and we (specially I) would like LegacyGT.com in on it to link to such thread once it's up. NASIOC will handle all the logistics of design, making, and sending the funds through Subaru to the McRae family.

Legacy was the first Rally car for Subaru and Colin it's first driver so let's give our thanks.

This is the message on our site:

Hey guys, just to keep you posted...

For those that aren't aware, we did something similar to this a while back for the Lovell/Freeman families when they passed away, and raised about $5K that we sent to their families by way of Subaru. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=798400

So I want to do something, but it has to be run through NASIOC. No offense to anyone here, but I can't trust that someone else running it will make sure the profits are going directly to the families. I do realize that the seller here is trying to make them not for profit, but that's not really helping anyone involved.

What's more generous, putting a decal on your car in memorial of someone so important to the Subaru community or putting the decal on your car while at the same time making a small donation to help their family, and show them how much Colin meant to all of us.

I will post up details as soon as we have something ready, we're working on it.

Please let me know if you'd like in on this!

Thanks guys!

Update from Nick:
We'll donate it to whichever the family chooses.

We will send the money however the family desires. I assume most likely they will want it sent to a charity in Colin's memory.

I'll keep updating the announcements as I get more information.

As of this moment we are waiting a couple of days while my contact at Subaru gets in contact with the family to get approval for this as we did with Lovell and Freeman's families. But we also want to be respectful and give them a few days before we start jumping all over them.

Here is a tribute video highlighting most of his early career and the Legacy:

They are available for purchase through the NASIOC store. For $10 you get a set of two decals which also covers shipping costs. The decals are still in production so we will start to ship around October 10th, we thank you for your patience.

This decal was designed within the NASIOC community and we feel best recognizes the occasion it's meant to honor.

All profits from these decals will be sent to the Jerviswood Trust as the McRae family has asked. Details about the trust and the charities it will benefit can be found here: http://www.colinmcrae.com/

Whats the status on these? This guy changed the sport and even the saying that nobody remembers who came in second. I'd go out on a limb to say more people know who came in second in that rollover rally x games than people know who won.

I may just buy the set and NOT put them on my LGT. I'm hoping the black background isn't part of the design - I think just the flag and letters on a clear window background would look best for this layout...

I've seen another style on my friend's 04' WRX and his ladies RS - I'll see if they have pictures and where they got that style from.

If they would make it at least SOMEHOW cool looking, they'd sell a ton. They'd be on every rex and leggy. They need to come up with a design made for the tuners.

See what I started. Like I said, I'll probably order a set and maybe keep them up until I find something to put them on. A slightly better design would land it on my LGT - hmmmm...got a friend that can make decals....maybe he'll have something in mind....

Winner of last two years Sebastien Loeb was injured when he fell off his mountain bike, Kronos team invited Colin McRae, former Citroen team driver, to take his place in No.1 Car. However, it all went wrong for Citroen. While Ford had developed a new highly accurate weather forecasting system, tyre errors for Kronos followed one after the other, and finally McRae parked up on the final stage with an electrical failure.

Autosport International – The Racing Car Show

The Autosport Show is the major showcase in the calendar for the Motorsport Industry in the UK and beyond.
It takes place this year at the NEC in Birmingham from 10-13th January and one of the major attractions will undoubtedly be the ‘Colin McRae Tribute Feature’, which has been put together jointly by Colin McRae Motorsport Ltd and Haymarket Media Group who organise the show.
We certainly hope that the effort put into this feature will prove to be a fitting tribute to Colin’s life and achievements.
There will be a total of 7 of the cars that he drove during his illustrious career (Talbot Sunbeam, Vauxhall Nova, 1992 BRC winning - Subaru Legacy, 1995 WRC winning - GpA Subaru Impreza, Ford Focus , Citroen Xsara and his own designed Colin McRae R4) This will be a unique opportunity to see all of these cars close up in the same location.
A walk through tribute will be the centre piece of the feature which will follow Colin’s career from the early years through to the present with a display of never seen before photos and memorabilia.
If you would like to demonstrate your computer driving skills then there will be game pods where you can try out the new highly acclaimed Colin McRae - DIRT Codemasters playstation game and Duke Video will also be showing the newly released definitive DVD ‘Colin McRae – Rally Legend’
Cype will also be on the stand showcasing the latest shoes/clothing from the colinmcraesport range.
We certainly hope that the stand will contain enough diversity to hold an interest for all ages and allow all those who knew him to reflect on both Colin as a person and his numerous achievements.
