Now I regret getting my 04 impreza. I want that Legacy GT soooo bad.
Anyone else going to totally screw up their finances to get one?

I got about $3K left on my 02 rex. I am going to get $18K for it in June. Let's just say that I should go ahead and keep the car since it is soon to be paid for and forgo a car payment for a long time.. but now I am going to go ahead and finance another $12K or so. DAMMMMIT! I would say I am screwing myself real nice

Oh, the reason I am going to get that much for my rex is because it only has about 25K miles on it.
Such a bad idea. What are you going to do when the next generation Impreza comes out? Just keep that in mind - you'll get to have the latest greatest thing in just a couple more years. In the meantime, you can save enough to not need a loan at all.
Personally, I'll be jumping from a '98 Forester (which has been paid off for about a year). It's not like an '04 Impreza is chopped liver.
The nice thing with just buying a car would be being able to wait until the '06 to see what new options / colors there may be. I bought a WRX in April of 2001 so I'm getting close to a new car (I usually buy every 4-5 years). I will get a GT but I'll probably wait about 4-6 months after release (to let the tuners get a head start).
IMHO your only in a better position by waiting a year.

Tide if you bought in it 2001 and change car every 4~5 years
than you can compare the New impreza and New legacy
hopefully STi version will be available in states by 05
The new Legacy is just too nice, don't think I can wait until MY 06 Legacy (Sept 2005). But who knows what Suby has in store for us next year.

I'll be jumping on the first year Legovers. My 2002 WRX wagon (37K miles) will be worth about as much as it's going to be worth this summer. I already have a couple of people who are interested in it (as an adult-driven vehicle :D ).
In many ways, buying a car is like buying a computer. In a year or two, you're a schmuck, as something bigger/better/faster comes along.
But in my case, any hot-rodding (by Subaru, the only acceptable kind) will find its way to the sedan, not the wagon, so I can buy with confidence.
The likelihood of horsepower bumps, etc are, IMHO, nonexistent because of how things are structured, marketing-wise for Subaru with its model lineup. There might be aftermarket add-ons from Subaru, a la the WRX, but again, I doubt it. I don't think they will perceive the Legacy as a tuner car.
So...silver wagon for me...soon as I can.

I say wait on buying a Legacy. To go from an 04 Impreza (RS I presume) to a 05 Legacy is just starting a bad habit. You can stay posting around here without actually owning one, so don't feel bad about it. If you start making major money losing situations now, you are going to be setting a precedent to do it again in the future. That may be OK if you are rolling in the dough, but think about how many days, weeks, or months of work you are doing just to cover the financial loss on the trade. That may sober you up a bit.

I think I have said this before once, but this is the first time that I have been happy that I didn't buy that STi last year. I had a white with gold rims on order that I had to cancel because I bought a new house.
