WRP10 Bridges the WRX - STi Gap in Oz As reported in Oz.....
Adam.

WRX grunt not quite enough for you, yet the STI's out of your price range? Has Subaru Australia got a deal for you!

From late January, there'll be 200 Australia-only Limited Edition Impreza WRX WRP10s up for grabs. Each is a WRX with what Subaru Australia calls "... key STI components, Australian planning, design and engineering".

The cars - all Crystal Grey Metallic manual sedans - get individually-numbered badges and an STI engine performance upgrade kit, increasing peak power from standard WRX’s 168kW at 6000rpm to 175kW at the same revs.

The kit includes a replacement Electronic Control Unit, upgraded exhaust components and a unique large single tip muffler. The kit is said to produce "... more responsive, inear engine performance when accelerating into the higher rpm range," according to Subaru here.

The WRP10 name itself pays homage to the WRX's World Rally championship success (WR), Pirelli's contribution to that success (P), and the 10 years (10) since the launch of the original Impreza WRX.

Other STI-style additions to the car include: a carbon fibre strut brace and WRX suspension lowering kit, with stiffer springs and 15mm-lower ride height.

Subaru Australia says the STI parts "... increase rigidity for improved ride and handling and give WRP10 a more aggressive stance."

The WRP10 cars also get five-spoke forged alloy RAYS wheels and Pirelli P Zero Nero tyres (215/45Z/R17s).

Subaru's General Manager, Nick Senior says the WRP10 cars show Subaru's commitment to technical development in Australia and the talents of Melbourne-based STI Australia.

"The limited edition model is the first developed by STI Australia, in conjunction with STI Japan and provides a wonderful opportunity to showcase the performance credentials of Subaru and STI engineers.

"The WRP10 is sure to have strong appeal for Impreza WRX enthusiasts and will provide us with a chance to assess the potential for further limited editions and how Australia can contribute to the product planning and engineering process in the future”.

Pricing is yet to be finalised, but Subaru Australia expects the WRP10 will carry a pricetag around $50,000.

Prices and details correct at publication date.

Its great to see STi working to give the ppl what they want. I would say that companies such as Subaru, Mitsu, Nissan and Honda in Japan would stand to make Millions internationally if they were to sell concepts cars like this in small run numbers with parts from other BIG BRANDED companies like RAYS, ings, Veilside, GReddy, Brembo, MOMO, RECARO, Blitz, Trust, HKS, TEIN, K&N to name a few.

Looks cool, though I'd probably still save for a Spec C, that is, if it is even avail in Oz...

*** UPDATE ***

Just to let you all know that the last WRP10 was sold 2 weeks ago. Wasnt as successful as what Subaru Australia would have hoped. It has nothing to do with the level of accessories or the look and style of the WRP10 but more to do with the way it was priced.

PS The standard WRX rims that came off this special model WRP10 were put onto the base model Impreza and sold as a RS-R. Nice marketing IMHO.

The Last WRP10 Did not sell 2 weeks ago.

For 2 reasons.

1) I just bought a new WRP10 it gets delivered on the 23rd Dec (number 122)
2) the dealer has another one there (number 123 I think)

If you want a WRP10 and think you've missed out, see Eastern Subaru (in Lilydale)
Unless he's sold it in the last 5 days there is a brand new WRP10, for 48k onroad.

I'm sure the dealer would love to get rid of it. Due to the other reasons stated in the quote... not as popular as Subaru had hoped... etc etc

G'Day Mark

Apologies that I havent seen this post. The information that I obtained was from STi Australia so maybe they were looking at it from the prospective that all WRP10's were sold to dealers and as so, they were off their books. How are you enjoying the WRP10 and do you know of many other owners here in Melbourne.

Seen one for sale at Docklands on the weekend, unsure what the sticker price was though.

I suspect that that is correct, since Eastern Subaru are an independent dealer. And I have a feeling that STI made them purchase the models.

The model that was still available is number 120.

I'm surprised I waited this long to buy one, bloody awesome. However it's been a while since I've driven a powerful rear wheel drive car. (well you know what I mean, car that powers the rear wheels) and I've been getting into a little bit of trouble with the oversteer, while accelerating from standing, round a corner, in the wet. Apart from wet roads, it sticks like glue.

I haven't seen any other warps, just a crystal grey evo wrx's and some blue STIs. When I went to get lock nuts, the sales man said he had seen some others around the area. I've been looking out but haven't seen any.

How old is this :D

I think SA had a much better time selling the GT STi than they did trying to flog all of the WRP10s...

Thanks for posting up Mark and mate, fantastic to have you onboard.
I agree the WRP10 is certainly a step up from the stock WRX, glad that your enjoying it. Consider yrself IN on the group drive when we go.

Not that old Darren, check the dates.
You would think this is 12 months old but it aint.

Mark,

Congratulations on the new car - all reports on them have been really positive and opinion seems to have been great car but not worth the original rrp. I'm guessing you didn't pay original rrp so got a great deal.

Seriously think you should consider joining the Vic WRX club with that car though. It's a great club and worth the price for the magazine and parts discount on servicing alone.

Cheers,

Darren
