Buy one get a 2nd pair of equal of less value for half price. Not a bad deal especially for the db651's (the 2007 model of the 650's) which you can get two pair for 150 the big plus of ordering it from crotchfield is when they do have good deals its nice because you get the wiring harnesses and instructions etc free.

How do these speakers do with just a stock stereo?

How do these speakers do with just a stock stereo?
My question exactly. I don't want to replace anything but the speakers. Are these efficient enough to be driven by the stock stereo? Will I somehow hurt my speakers or head unit by using less efficient speakers than the stock ones?

EDIT: I don't want a louder stereo, just clearer, better sound. Also, are speaker baffles worth it? Do they really enhance the bass? Will they even fit? Crutchfield has some that say they are 6 1/2" by 2 3/8" deep.

I think Crutchfield gives you free spacers too (albeit really cheap ones).

Can you stack the VISA discount code as well?

I'm ready to pull the trigger on some speakers as well so any feedback on the above questions would be appreciated. From what I've read on this board 92 sensitivity should be about equal to stock. I was leaning toward separates for the front. Reasoning that Subaru bothered to spend the extra $ for separate tweeters so they must improve sound over coax units.

What VISA discount code do you speak of Mickeyd2005?

If you pay with VISA, you can use the above discount code.

There used to be an AMEX discount too but I'm too lazy to search for that one.

Sorry. I didn't read it. Didn't realize they excluded everything that they sell.

The last time that I bought something from Crutchfield (about a year ago), I used the AMEX discount.

I would wait until you get it. My infiniti's included a free set inside the box. Had no idea.

Otherwise, get the kartboy spacers. I got a set from his first run. They have a little bit of a short edge margin on some of the holes but he fixed that on his subsequent runs.

So... two pairs to get? I.e. will they fit and work fine both front and rear doors (in wagon) ?

In the sedan, all four speakers are 6.5". I think the wagon is the same, so you should be good with two pairs. Is yours an '05+?

Finished installing the front speakers. Took me about 3 hours, because I suck. And my shitty drill bits had a hard time drilling the new holes for the brackets that Crutchfield sent. You really will need a sharp drill bit. The speakers need to break in before they really start sounding good, but they are already an improvement over the stock ones. Not overwhelmingly better, but at least a little better. The are slightly quiter. I would guess 1 or 2 steps quieter than the stockers. (10 sounds like 8 used to. I compared them after installing only the left speaker). The second speaker only took about a half hour to install. This is my first time doing any car audio stuff, so there was a bit of a learning curve. If anyone has any questions I'll be glad to answer them.

Nope, but thats up next. I think I'm gonna order some vcomp this week and do it at the same time I put in rears and install my Jazzy aux-in mod.

I'm very picky about my sound. I think my speakers just need time to break in. After listening to them for a few hours this weekend, they are already starting to sound better. Even if they stopped breaking in now, I would say it's worth it. I hope they get even better, though. Also, after I purchased my speakers I noticed they are rated down to 50hz (DB651S), while the DB651 or DB650 models were rated lower, like 30 or 35 Hz. Might be worth getting those as the bass should be a little better. Bass in the 651S's compared to stock is maybe a little weaker, but tighter and less boomy.

I installed DB 650's a few months ago (front doors only) and they are indeed a bit quieter. I also disconnected the factory tweeters and there is defintely a noticable improvement in sound quality, as well as imaging. Clearer, cleaner sound with a much more coherent soundstage, IMO well worth the time and $. I also installed the Vcomp product quite some time ago, the reduction in road noise was worth the time and $.

Crotchfield now has the Polk DB 650's for $60/pair. Couple bucks more than Cardomain and you need to pay for shipping but the bracket/spacer is included and maybe some other peripheral stuff. Anybody else get these hooked up, opinions, advice?

I installed these in the front with the brackets crutchfield sent. They didnt fit perfectly; they required me two break off the two long tabs on the bracket and drill one new whole. If you want I can draw up a diagram of what I did, but I'm not saying my method is the greatest. In fact, it was slightly ghetto, but I don't have the facilities to cut my own brackets from mdf or anything.

I saw only product sections for Powertrain, Exterior, Suspension, and Wearables.
