Hi all:

I've got some Boston Acoustics speakers to install in my 2002 Subaru Legacy Wagon. The fronts are components (SL 60) and the rear are coaxials (SX 65). I'm curious about a few things that I would appreciate your help on.

As you folks know, the factory speakers come mounted on an angled bracket that seems to be a good thing to use, do you agree?

What about the crossovers for the component speakers? Where do you recommend installing them?

I've cut the back part of the brackets off to give the magnets clearance, but am wondering about the best way to mount the speakers to the bracket. I was going to drill some holes into the bracket for mounting to the bracket. Is this what you would recommend? any other tips?

What about the tweeters? I was going to put them in surface mounted. The BA SL60 have a surface mount holder that's angled ... recommendations on the best way to point them, i.e. up, towards the listener, etc.?

thanks for your help!

I have a 00 Outback that I installed Polk components in the front doors and Polk coaxials in the rear. I did use the factory speaker brackets since they were angled and seemed to get much better sound imaging vs using the flat spacers. I used a Dremmel to cut away the plastic plate on the stock spacers and had plenty of room for those deep speakers. Sounds like you did the same. I don't remember having to drill any additional holes for mounting screws, I just used the stock mounting points.

I actually placed the crossovers in the armrest area of the door panel. I removed some white foam to make room.

As for the tweeters, I had the factory tweeters - so I pulled those out, dremmeled the plastic covers off the Polk tweeters and JB welded them into the grill/cover housings for the stock tweeters. Works fine, but would have been nice to have a mount that the angle could be adjusted later.
