If yo have a bigger hand you should get the prodrive. But it does make it go a little high on the kartboy. That is why I got rid of my kartboy and went with a cobb so I can change the height of my shifter

I had a hard time finding a good shift knob. I tried quite a few. The Momo F16 leather shift knob turned out to be the best. Fully leather wrapped and ergonomically shaped. The downside was that I needed to get a Cobb STS to lower the shifter since it attached to the lever differently.

Later, I found out that late model Mustang 5 speed knobs fit. That opens up a lot of different lower cost options.

Nice...it is a sweet piece, I also had it on my old turbo'd civic, so as soon as i got the LGT I bought one. Besides for $40 you can't go wrong.

BTW..mine came with a blue shift gate badge and a red one (the one I used). Also, just a small install tip..first install the knob and fully tighten it, then stick on the badge. I stuck on the badge first and then tightened it and the badge ended up upside down..it is a pain to remove and reinstall that badge. :)

Momo Air Leather is the best

This shift knob is the best. The reason? It has the factory style boot holder built in to the knob.
Plus it has nice reduced height from stock, great feel and weight. Crisp shifts ensured.
It's much more sporty than the doughy-feeling, tall-boy leather stock knob.

That is nice...but I don;t get what the big deal is with the boot holder. I don't have one and the boot still sits right up against the bottom of the knob. It is not as if there is a big gap between the knob and the boot..

mickeyd2005
05-23-2007, 06:23 PM
I used to think the boot holder was important... then I found out it wasn't.

If you lower the shifter knob then the distance between the bezel and the bottom of the knob becomes short enough that the leather boot almost holds itself upright by itself.

In addition to the one gireland posted, I also have this Subaru/STi delrin knob;

Exactly. The Airleather can mounted much lower, esentially the shifter rod will touch the top of the knob. This also makes the entire shifter shorter - making the STI STS perfect length without resorting to cutting it down.

I picked up a Mustang knob about a month ago. I'm happy with it for the most part. However, be aware that the "ring/lip" that holds up the stock shift boot is too big. No way you're gonna get the shift boot over the lip without grinding it down. On the flip side, you honestly don't need to, as the shortness of the shifter (I have the COBB dual adjustible shifter) keeps it securely at the base of the knob.

Also be aware that the black sides aren't actually leather (unless the guy I got it off of ebay was BS'ing me--the auction said leather). But it's plastic. Still looks good though. I'll take some pictures of mine if I remember today.

There is a difference. The five-speed knob does not have the cutout for the reverse ring on the six-speed tranny. The six speed does have recess for the reverse ring. You should buy the knob to match the tranny you have.

It's pretty cool looking but not functional. It's too small and not shaped correctly and it gets hot in the summer and cold in the winter. I got tired of mine and sold it. I knew the guy who bought it wasn't going to like it. He eventually sold it as well.

Quick review on that STI shift knob that costs a fortune:

In short, its terrible. The knob is an attractive silver color, but thats about where it stops. The finish has the consistency of a lightbulb, so if you like the way light bulbs feel you are in luck!

Also, it almost feels like the grip point is in reverse. I know it's a spherical shape but in your hand it feels as if the side facing the back seats is actually bigger, making it uncomfortable to grip.

I am terribly disappointed, and at a huge expense :( Well live and learn I guess!
