What happens when you hit the button on you a/c panel that symbolizes air circulation from inside the car, or outside you car.

What happens when you hit the button when the climate control and everything is completly off. I accidently hit it the other night and it popped the symbol up on the screen and i had to hit the off button to get it to go away.

It's the air inlet selection button. From your owner's manual:

Select air flow by pushing the air inlet selection button.

The selected air inlet setting is shown on the control panel.

(Recirculation): Interior air recirculates inside the passenger compartment. Use this position when quickly cooling down the passenger compartment or
to prevent outside air from entering the passenger compartment. When the recirculation mode is selected, an indicator light appears on the display.

(Outside air): Outside air is drawn into the passenger compartment. When the climate control system is operated in the “AUTO” mode, this position is
selected automatically. (There is one exception: When the temperature control dial is turned fully counterclockwise, the recirculation mode is automatically selected.)
When the outside air mode is selected, an indicator light appears on the display.

Warning: Continued operation in the recirc position may fog up the windows. Switch to the outside position as soon as the outside dusty condition clears.

NOTE:
When driving on a dusty road or behind a vehicle that emits unpleasant exhaust gases, set the air inlet selection button to the recirc position.
From time to time, return the air inlet selection buttonto the outside position to draw outside air into the passenger compartment.

you know actually now that i re read that post eldiablo, really you explained to me something i already knew. What i was wondering was what does the button do when the a/c system is off and you push it?

basically if i am driving for a while, and its hot out i feel the hot air rolling in through the vents with the windows down. If i push that button with the a/c off will it "close" off the outside air coming in?

In my personal experience, if you set to "Outside" mode with AC off, you'll get vented outside air (which is really warm air from engine compartment).

If you set to "recirc" with AC off it will close the vent and you get nothing.

I often find myself wanting vented air without having AC turned on. To make the vented air more comfortable I will set the dial to 65 (no heat), press OFF, and then select the "outside" vent mode.

There is a stickied thread in the interior forum with lots of info on this quirky ventilation system.

And to put that quite as simply as possible. Yes.
