My XM has been crap lately. It constantly loses the signal and I get the fake static. It's so bad I don't even want to listen to it.

I tried to call XM to see if there was a problem up in space, but after being on hold for 20 min I hung up.

I checked the antenna cable at all the pinch points I can remember and it's not damaged anywhere. I havn't changed anything in my setup. The only thing I've done is when I'm working on the car in the garage, I unplug the antenna from the unit and plug in an extra antenna I have and throw it out in the driveway so I can still listen to music. Jiggling the antenna conection on the unit does nothing and it isn't loose.

I have an extra, well, everything, including unit, car kit, antenna....etc. So tomorrow I'm going to have them activate the spare unit and and deactivate the current one to see if that does anything.

Anyone else having problems with theirs or ideas as to what's up with mine.

o, it loses the signal both in open air and really bad with any kind of obstructions. It was never this bad.

XM lost a sat link, it should be back up soon

The Main SAT link to all recievers was disabled, This is when redundancy helps:

From TGDaily.comXM Radio is experiencing massive outages after one of its satellites was disabled. The company says satellite number 1 is down for “performance” reasons and the company is currently performing a “software update”. While the company has a spare satellite, many customers in the United States and Canada are still experiencing problems.

XM subscribers on the xmfan.com website (http://www.tgdaily.com/#) are talking up a storm with an outage message thread that has reached 17 pages as of 2:05 PM PST. You can read the thread here (http://www.xmfan.com/viewtopic.php?t=80511) .We called up XM technical support (http://www.tgdaily.com/#) and it was apparent that the customer service representative was reading from a script. He told us that “engineers were aware of this problem” and that they did not have an estimated time of completion. He added that we should continuously point our antennas towards the southern sky for when the signal did come back.

Interestingly enough, we were able to receive XM Radio (http://www.tgdaily.com/#) just a few minutes ago on an XM-equipped car in Culver City California. XM Radio operates mainly on satellite, but those signals are also bounced to cars with repeater towers in some urban areas.

well that makes me feel a little better. Kinda makes me wish I didn't spend 2 hours dicking around with the antenna placement and checking all my wires.

phuCKKKK! Wish I would have seen this before I too troubleshot the install in our work van. Interesting part, if I disconnected the terrestrial antenna feed, we got continous reception as long as there was an unobstructed view of the sky. Anyway... what a pain in the ass...

you can tell it not to use the terrestrial feed? mine doesn't do that. In fact, I think I've only ever had a terrestial signal like 5 times anyways

Sweet....glad I read this. I was freaking fuming on the way home yesterday thinking I was going to have to take the spoiler off to reposition the antenna. Good one less thing I have to mess with.

Indeed - my windshield wipers were enough to knock out my reception on the way to work this morning. When I got there - I had a slightly different message from XM waiting for me in my email:Service Degradation Alert

You may be experiencing temporary degraded performance with your XM reception at the present time. XM is aware of the issue and working diligently to resolve it as soon as possible. We anticipate full signal strength will be restored by early Tuesday morning.
Hrm - I just got another one too:XM Service Update

As many of you know, XM customers have experienced service outages or significantly degraded service since Monday mid-morning, May 21.

We quickly identified the problem and are working hard to return to our normal levels of service. The problem occurred during the loading of software to a critical component of our satellite broadcast system, which resulted in a loss of signal from one of our satellites. We expect normal service to resume midday today (eastern daylight time).

XM apologizes for any inconvenience this has caused. For updates, please go to http://www.xmradio.com (http://links.email.xmradio.com/ctt?kn=8&m=868780&r=Njg2NDY4NTY3NwS2&b=0&j=Mjg0MjczNDgS1&mt=1).

In the meantime, you can enjoy many of our music channels on XM Radio Online (http://xmro.xmradio.com (http://links.email.xmradio.com/ctt?kn=7&m=868780&r=Njg2NDY4NTY3NwS2&b=0&j=Mjg0MjczNDgS1&mt=1)) if you are close to a computer.

Again, we regret any inconvenience for not having your XM Radio service fully available.
