I'm looking at upgrading the sound system (just a little, not a ton) in my 05 Legacy GT. After reading through plenty of helpful posts I am fairly certain I have things narrowed down to what I want, however I was hoping I could get a couple more hints.

1. Best place (fastest/cheapest shipping, nicest product) to buy the kit that turns the "cubby" into a 1-DIN slot? (Link to one place I found the item: Here (http://www.rallitek.com/jdm1dcefa.html))

2. Anyone know the size of the subwoofer in the Subaru Amplifier&Subwoofer kit? (link to one place I found the item if you don't know which one i'm talking about: Subaru Part # H630SAG000 (http://www.premiersubaruparts.com/PD-H630SAG000.aspx?MakeID=30))

3. Is the above subwoofer a decent sub? or is an after-market sub a better bet? (would prefer a sub that fits under the seat to save trunk space). Also would it be easier to go with an after market sub since I'm going with an after market head unit?

4. Is there an adapter (and possibly a link to where I can buy it?) that will take the plugs out of the back of my factory Head Unit and adapt them to an Alpine Head Unit (Alpine part number: CDA-9883)?

Any other suggestions you might have are welcome!

Thanks for any help!

Well here is my 2 cents

1. Rallitek.com is the best place to buy that kit from. I can say nothing but good things about them.

2. Not 100% sure but I thinks its an 8 or 10 inch speaker.

3. Honestly I'd say no but then I have never used it so I can't say that it is bad. I can say that you will probaly get better performance/quality from an aftermarket sub but to go that route it requires buying a sub and an amp to go with so will cost more.

4. Yes there should be. Don't have a link for you sorry but you should be able to pick one up at any car audio shop.

Cool thanks for the input. I have everything ordered and went with the aftermarket sub and amp.

The factory sub is maybe a 5 or 6" driver. For decent sound that fills in some bottom end, it does OK. If you're looking for serious thump or want to impress others with vibrating the body panels on your car, the factory sub ain't it.

Agreed. A friend of mine has it, and while it fills out the sound a bit, it's not too great.

I ended up going with an Infinity Basslink (which I moved from my STi) which is a 200w powered 10" sub, and it sounds excellent. Won't win any sort of decible dragraces, but it sounds great.

Why not skip the h/u unit change and simply get a line out converter for your amp and sub? Is there additional functionality you feel is added with an aftermarket deck? How you plan to power the mids if bypassing the main h/u?
