well, my buddy in his 07 Forester STI conversion is running Utec in his. We had Jarrad from PDX Tuning come up a wk ago to do some tuning with us and he did a great job!

Can a utec car still pass obdII inspection
if so will it still do it in speed density?

Yes. The UTEC is more or less transparent to an OBD-II scan regardless of if it is running in SD mode or OLF MAF fueling mode.

of course it will, it has stock mode...
now catless exhaust...thats another question

Does the new UTEC Delta come with any performance-enhancing base maps for the LGT, or does one always have to custom tune it?

i am not going to get the utec, as it doesnt allow for tunning of the AVCS

what did you end up going with.. I still feel Adam sent me in the right direction with the UTEC being that AP still isnt out...
and now that I commute over a mountain I LOVE the gains in HP just with a stock WRX stage 1 map

seriously, I think utec on top of opensource ecu basemap is the top of subaru EM right now.

I don't know about the "top" of Subaru EM, but it's basically what I run (Ecutek reflash with UTEC running SD on top). If AEM would finally release their drive-by-wire version I'd do that instead.

yeah, same thing.
use the reflash to tune AVCS, revlimiter, closed loop cruise AFR, all the stuff the stock ECU is good at, then use the extended capabilities of the UTEC on top of that.
best of both worlds

Pretty happy with my mixed reflash/UTEC setup. Most of the complaints people give regarding the UTEC are based on reviews with the older firmware. Since they released the new code last year it is significantly improved.

yeah, I heard the OL/CL crossover problems are a thing of a past; its a shame, I remember last year you could pickup an sti utec used for ~600, then that firmware with SD hit and the prices shot right back up

I think full standalones like the AEM EMS really compromise the streetability of a car.
kinda hard to get it inspected when theres no OBD2 support...

Oddly enough, even though CA is the smog nazi state, we do not have any annual inspections. For new vehicles, you don't have to get your car smogged until it is 6 years old. So the lack of OBD-II from a standalone isn't that big a deal for me.
I've ridden in an AEM EMS equipped high hp WRX and it drives butter smooth and start right up every time. Very nice drivability.

Yup. Running SD on my UTEC, I could never tell when the car switched from ECU control to the UTEC. It was seamless. I pickup up my UTEC for $350 including the remote map selector switch and you can still find them for around that price now. I know of a friend who just picked one up for $450 with remote switch and WBO2.

guys... what temp correction are you using for SD?
KGreb
07-24-2007, 05:18 PM
I haven't needed any temp compensation beyond what is automatically done by the SD algorithm. This has given me good AFRs when outside temps are 50F to 95F.

but I thought we needed to compensate for the fact that the MAF is right at the initial point of the intake and the temp needs to be taken just before the TB?

It would be more ideal to have the AIT sensor (part of MAF) at the IC exit, but that doesn't work too well with a TMIC. As long as you're tuning fuel with a WB for feedback you should be ok. The programmable temp compensation that exists is to adjust fuel based on air intake temp or coolant temp beyond that which is already built into the SD algorithm.

I understand that but... those of us planning on spraying some alky may need to really know the temp at the TB....
I'll switch it on and see how it goes..
