I have been debating getting an Ipass but I only use $1 in tolls a month. I don’t see the need to tie but $50 ($10 for the unit and $40 to charge it)

Where is your IPASS mounted? Mine is behind the rearview mirror where I can't see it from the driver's seat, but there is probably a better place for it. will it work if I just toss it in the cubby above the trip computer?

I have had one since they were black and sat on the dash (and they didn't fwork for sh!t). Just picked up one for the missus; she would freak out if she had to pay the higher toll.

I don't have mine mounted to the windshield; I ust take it out and hold it up when going through a toll (I don't take the tollways enough to justify mounting it).

Oh you poor city slickers! i am so glad I didnt pursue a job up there. I drive up there for the Auto Show once a year and maybe once for shopping and thats enough traffic and tollway crap to last me till next year.

I am so jealous of everyone modding their cars already, I told myself I am going to wait until the warranty is up on this one......I don't think thats going to happen.

Lol I'm not sure my car will be modded but we'll see.. I still want to do a short throw shifter purchase/install soon but I have not decided on which one I want.
But yeah a meetup would be cool.

What I would like to see is a 1/4 mile get together in Joliet this spring. They do these test and tune nights at Gateway in St Louis for 15 bucks as many runs as you can get, just keep lining up in the staging lanes. Do they have those up there? I really want to see if I can best the magazine times with my own car and me driving.

They do, but at Route 66 the wait is waaaaaaaaay too long. Union Grove during the week is great if you get there right when it opens (I once did 10 runs in about 20 minutes with my RX-V8 :D ). Byron is not open during the week and is jamed on the weekends like Union Grove.

It is too bad, because Route 66 is much closer for me.

I am interested in a get-together...whenever...just has to be a week-end or an evening.

As far as the I-PASS, I will get one that mounts on the license plates...On the windshield is UGLY, but so is on the front bumper. At least it protrudes by an inch or so...and may offer *some* protection when someone is doing a parallel parking in front of your parked car. Well my LGT is black so it may not be AS ugly.

Pl€ase someone tell me that with this tollway fare increase...they will be adding at least 1 lane to Kennedy (I-90/94). Damn it...they should make the left shoulder another lane between 7 AM and 10 AM and between 4 PM and 7 PM.

So...when's the meeting ? Mid February at the Auto-Show ?

I know that weekends there are really busy, almost uncomfortably busy trying to get around. I don't know if the first or second weekend is busier. Maybe a Friday night would be good? 11th or 18th? Last year I parked at the show in a garage, but they are doing so much construction this year, I don't know if that garage is even still there. Maybe we can meet downtown or at Sox park, check out our Subarus, and then take the bus to the Convention Center. I did this 2 years ago from Millenium Park and it worked out very well.

I would like to go on record as hating this thread. After being an A$$ saying I have no use for an Ipass…well I had to take 294 – 290 last night to get home from a Christmas part and the assholes painted over the cost of the toll so I had no idea how much it should be  . Anyway I went to Jewl today and bought one. ;)

Im also in for a group meet and I propose to meet at Boxers dino day.

double to be exact. in a way, it serves those coin monkeys right. i understand the theory behind improving flow of traffic. personally, i get annoyed when i get stuck behind some coine fumbling fool, who lacks the dexterity of an infant to be able to grab a couple of coins, and granny toss them into the bucket. even worse is when they dont put enough in, and they just sit there like 'wtf mate?'

but that's just once side of the coin.

I would be happy with the toll increases as long as they figure out how to relieve traffic congestion on the I-90/94. They should enforce the German Autoßahn model when it comes to shoulders/emergency lanes. At least one lane can be added on the Kennedy while 294 certaily is wider and already has extra lanes...but I-294 can easily accomodate 2 more lanes. And damn it...we need some highway vigilantes that would take care of those slow cars in the fast lanes. And they should raise teh speed limit like they want to do in Euro (from 130 kph to 160 kph) from 55/65 to 65/75. I mean...people will still drive as fast as they consider 'safe'.

yeah, 90's pretty friggin brutal during rush hour, and these days, 88 is even worse, especially around the naperville stretch.

I heard that just one I-Pass won't cut it if you have several cars. I refuse to buy even one of the blasted things since the state can send you a ticket for using it in a different car. Our Subaru dealer got a big fine 'cuz folks used their own I-Pass in a dealer loaner...and now have signs posted in the service area. Damn ass-raping bureaucrats...shouldn't their job be to relieve congestion and make life simpler?

But from what I hear the cost is double if you don’t have an Ipass. You also have to go through the uber slow lane.

Information is power.

Can I use my I-PASS in more than one vehicle?

Yes, as long as the vehicle type is the same (e.g. Class1, 2-axle passenger vehicle). You must notify us of the license plate, make, model, color and year of the additional vehicle(s). You can do this through our Online Account Management feature or you can call 1-800-UCI-PASS. The unit must be mounted properly.

Yeah you can use your i-PASS in more than one vehicle but as RCLARK quoted; you must first register that car with the Tollway authorities. Using dealer loaners...will get them tickets as the cars are not registered with i-PASS center.

I got a couple of fines in the mail for allegedly not paying toll. Damn white shit didn't work and had to switch to one mounted on the license plate. I sugest to pick up one of those...afterall it "adds" a protective inch to your bumper.

I-55 is bad as well. Damn...what works well in Chicagoland ? And what are we not being taxed for? Air ? For how long ?

My favorite part of the online activation is the poll "How did you hear about iPass?" (Answer: You bastards.) "What made you choose iPass?" (Answer: To keep from getting screwed by an onerous system that forces people who choose NOT to give you folks their toll money early to pay more than double.)

Curiously, neither of my answers were selectable options, nor did they have a write-in portion. Unfortunate.

Last year I wrote our State Representative because 30% of the time the unmanned toll basket thingee would not register a clean coin toss. I was getting pissed, thinking I was being photo ID'd because their shit equipment wouldn't work. The SR was ecstatic to have this info., plus my argument that the ITA should not ask for more money when they cannot count the money we give them now. So, how reliable are these friggin i-Pass things

I have to be going REALLY slow for mine to work in the cubby. I have to dip under 30 for the ones on 294 to register. I just dig it out.

That's awesome to hear that you can use the ipass on the skyway now. I avoided taking it yesterday strictly because they didn't use it in the past.

Sweden right now...in 2 hrs I leave for Stockholm and embark for Helsinki Fiinland where I will be for 2 days. Then I come back and will go (rumors, plans) to Oslo Norway, Malmö (think "Florida" of the Baltic Sea) then Denmark (Copenhagen). Then I come back here and...come home to Chicago.

The shittiest part is that I had 2 bags with me...one with clothes...which finally arrived last night - 2 days later after I arrived...so I was pretty much "naked" in borrowed clothes - and another one with gifts for these people here...which to this day nobody knows if it left America, is in Sweden, went directly to Denmark then to Orebro (the city that is my base camp)...NO ******* BODY knows where my other bag is.
