Well that blue just dropped on my list. Not that great looking if you ask me.
Silver or black! Such a nerveracking choice! That's okay, I have another month or so to make final decisions. :)
...yeah, I have seen a few USDM shots around similar to that second one down, and they all look bad becuase of that darn bumper. Side/front on looks fine, no problem..
For some reason all the best shots I have seen of the USDM are of the silver ones. All the black/blue shots have been bleh, and seem to take away the aggressive stance you see in the JDM and replace it with a distinctly family looking sedan/wagon..
JDM of course looks great in any color.
<---- is going to have to live with it too.
The general consesus is it looks a helluva lot better in person.

I don't know if the bumper is that much bigger, but at least i get to post a photo of my car again to play with your heads

Those pictures are not very good as far as color correction goes, so not very indicative of the final product before you in person.

Nice looking ride MSB...
As for the USDM Legacy... Subaru didn't stretch their imagination too much, did they?
The more I look at it, the more I think "Camry."
It's disappointing styling-wise, IMHO.
BUT!
That's actually a good thing... I think of that kind of styling as "Cop Camouflage" to hide the real beast underneath :)

Those rims on the blue Legacy, they aren't stock GT rims are they? I thought they were the 5-spoke ones.

Those are the '04 GT rims and now '05 2.5i rims. They're 16x6.5" alloys.

MSB, your car is awesome 8) . By comparison the USDM versions are missing some subtle cues that lack the sexiness of the JDM versions which get my pulse to racing. They look more sleek overall. I think it is the front end ( I like the round foglight opening and the slight flare at the bottom toward the front wheel), 10 spoke rims and the lack of roof rails. At least it appears there are no roof rails in your pic. Anyway I wish we had a delete option for the GT. Keep the roof rails for the Outback!

I am probably going to have my rails either removed or painted as I am not likely at all to use them and I just don't really like the look all that much. At least body-colored would make them look a lot better IMO. (More on roof rails in the named thread.)
That and removing the orange up front will make the car look much better too.
When I have the cash, a set of Spec B wheels or Prodrive GC-010E wheels.
Always seems like in the pics, we want the JDM stuff and the Japanese want our stuff.
..well they're welcome to our bumpers, but I'm sure they'd politely decline. :)

hope they have like an option for those 5 spoke 17" wheels on the 2.5i model.

Guess I must just have a little different perspective than you guys on it. OVERALL, I really like it, sure I'd like those roof rails painted (which I will probably have done) or removed, and would rather have not have those orange turn indicators, but heh, those are easy to modify. ;) I actually like the USDM bumpers to an extent, gives a little more definition. Guess I'm just used to them on current models. ;)
Few small mods and you can make it look much better. But like you said, cop camo, wolf in sheeps clothing, SLEEPER!

OOPS, didn't notice, the forum froze on me when I posted and I thought it only went up once. :O to my suprise. It's all fixed. Nice it deletes the posts on your post count when you delete them on here. Most forums I've seen just keep them for some odd reason.
Just working on the Tech Reference & Tech FAQ sections tonight. :) Getting things a little better sorted out for ya'll! ;)

just check out subaru.co.jp; a whole set of body kit is starting at 1600+ USD.... :( sad
btw, what are the difference between the US and JP engine??
apexjapan
04-18-2004, 02:57 AM
Body kits are expensive here in Japan - and people do pay those prices. One of the reasons that there *are* bodykits available. Body kits are generally cheap to make, but they do not sell a lot, so they only get created when there is enough buyers to pony up the bigger cash for them.
The biggest differences in the JDM and USDM Legacy GT motors is that the JDM uses a 2.0-litre block, a twinscroll turbo and different bits bolted to that turbo, along with a 4-1 header. The USDM uses a de-tuned version of the USDM 2.5-litre STi motor, with the same TMIC as the JDM, but different turbo (and bits bolted to it) that is a standard, non-twinscroll type.
Some tuners figures for the JDM motor says it is only making around 222hp... I will wait and see till mine is dyno'd, I would estimate more around 240hp myself. The main difference between it and the previous twin-turbo is that it has a long, strong midrange plateau of torque from 2500-5400rpm. It starts falling off after there, which is why peak hp may be down a bit, but peak torque does look to be about 7-10ft/lbs higher, and it lasts much longer where you really really love it to be.
The USDM motor, if it actually dyno's at 250/250, would likely be stronger than the JDM motor despite all the trick hardware here. And it would be doing it on poor quality american gas.
So if it was a choice between motors and bumpers - I'll take the USDM motor, please.
Cheers,
Paul Hansen

from my observation, the silver one looks best the for USDM... black color let the ugly bumper stands out too much. the blue looks wired... any more comments?

Heres a DTM Legacy Outback (the driver probably works with my father at SOA in Cherry Hill).
Spotted on the NJ Turnpike in the early AM today (5/18).
Photos taken with an Canon S410.
edit: I love the reverse lights.

I don't know how bad you want pics, but I have access to SOA's lot which should have a couple Legacys there.... I can hit it up if you want... even find one of their drivers and get some interior/engine bay shots.

Do it! :D Find good pictures of a red sedan and a silver wagon, if possible. Those seem to be the popular choices on the forum here.

I received the brochures today on both the Outback and Legacy. Barring some unforeseen event, I think I am sold on the white Leg. The color swatch in the brochure is really sharp (readily visible color-changing qualities including blues and golds). Can't wait to see one in person...

Am I missing something or does the blue Legacy seem missing the turn signal at the mirrors? I thought the US version also gets the turn signal at the mirrors (or is it only available in the 2.5GT models)?
:?:
SUBE555

I believe 2.5GT models only with the turn signal in mirror feature. 2.5i Ltd might get it, but doubt it.

Hmmm. Let me check the brochure.
Yup, GT and GT Ltd. get the signals in the mirrors, i's do not.
Welcome to the forum and thanks for the pics j.reed!
