The limited edition Liberty (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1229674#) GT tuned by STI
The limited edition Liberty GT spec.B tuned by STI
ARRIVING early APRIL.
Bred for performance (http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1229674#), the stunning Liberty GT spec.B is now tuned by STI for even more exhilaration.
Harnessed beneath the bonnet lies the power of a turbo-charged Boxer engine enhanced by STI to a heart-pounding 194kW. Handling is razor sharp thanks to STI tuned sports suspension and an STI aerodynamics package. Furthermore, low profile Pirelli Rosso tyres and All-Wheel Drive ensure it’s anchored to the asphalt.
This thoroughbred is dressed to thrill, sporting 12-spoke 18" STI alloys and dual STI twin pipe mufflers, Brembo performance brakes and Limited Edition ‘tuned by STI’ badging. And the grooming continues inside, where black leather seats with STI stitching embellish an already luxurious interior.

wow. manual or automatic transmission. Probably three colors, as well, if previous version is any indication.
THIS car should be in the US market, at the current Spec B's price point. The current Spec B should be opened up for full color palette, and optional NAV, and price the spec B at the GT Limited's ~29k price point.
Drop the price on the GT limited to 26k.
Advertise and stock the cars.
Step 2: ?

Are most or all of those tuned by STi modifications available for the USDM '08s LGT's via aftermarket?
I suppose most are but, IMO, straight from the factory is generally better than aftermarket in terms of integration. Also, one of the biggest items the "tuned by STI" gets you is the Brembo brakes. I'd love those but don't want to pay $2500 or so for used parts that don't quite fit.

Well.. Subaru launched the 2005 lineup with a pretty good variety of sporty Legacies and has been cutting it back ever since with trim levels, colors, body styles, etc...
Unless they do a limited run of tuned by STi sedans, we son't see anything like that. We have the Spec B and I think they will stop there. We definately won't be seeing a higher performance wagon, either.

If you are fairly happy with what you have now and aren't too worried about a bit more depreciation, it never hurt to wait. The 06 SpecB was quite the surprise, but don't expect to see any variety in transmission or wagon vs sedan body choices, or color choices... or.. I think you catch my drift...

Even if they do bring that car here, price on it would be so high that it would have trouble competing on the market.
And of course this forum would swell with whining and criticism.
Still the best way to go is to get regular GT, spent $2,500- $4,00 on upgrades and have faster car for less.

IMO, the only TRUE STi Legacy would have an H6 Turbo under the hood, not a 4 cyl.

1. Different customer base.
2. They dont offer any Manual transmission options, therefore if/when I have that kind of money, Ill go BMW instead of Mercedes.
An SMG option might be acceptable, but I would never want to see an STi with a 5EAT. I like what Subaru has done with the WRX. You want an auto, then you have to get the Limited package. But, I still hate to see that car in a 4EAT.

In the past few months I have gone from being a Subaru fanatic to thinking my next car will be a 335xi (should it become available) or some kind of Audi.
Subaru really does seem to be watering everything down, and not even improving the styling while doing so. Sad. Very sad.
I understand that the bulk of Subaru's sales prolly come from Outbacks but they seem to have SO MANY performance enthusiasts who are willing to sing their praises everywhere they go. And they have certainly sold a lot of WRXs.
No more LGT wagon.
Increasingly bloated/boring LGT.
Fugly WRX.

That will be quite an expensive conversion i think - you will need the headlights, fenders, grill, lip and bumper. And if the mounts are different to the us spec cars then the mounts too!
While i'm happy we'er getting this car, i think its priced quite high for our market. That will cost around A$70,000 on the road.

Cool that they offer an STi wagon.
In US$ the Aussie Soob converts to nearly $55k. That is pricier than an S4! Way too much for only 260 hp, methinks...
I would say this car ought to be priced around $40k (USD) to make sense to me.
But I agree, SOA is lame! Why do they take a great car and water it down?
But hey, even the General has to go to Holden in OZ to get a decent RWD platform (except for the Corvette of course). What is it with US base car companies?

It wouldn't be that much of a stretch to get most of the goodness of the Sti in the Legacy. Motor, trans, suspension bits, styling bits. Just axe everyone involved with decision making at SOA, and get some folks with some real guts, and we will get the products we want and deserve. I agree that because of the pansies at SOA, cars like Mazda are steadily getting my attention more and more.

We're still hoping for new solid info on a LSTi. The new WRX doesn't fill the void for a roomier, more upscale performance sedan like a LSTi would.

I would venture to say that the Legacy is definetely not going to see an Sti, until maybe 2010 or 2011.
As for other cars, I would suggest people start looking at the new S5. Saw it at the auto show and it was quite impressive, plust it's a AWD coupe.

the 2008 spec b is pretty close to that guys except for the brakes. Give SOA a break, they suck, but they are kind of trying lol. Although i wish we got spec b's in black, that cool interior, and those mufflers :(, shit SOA does suck.
You guys crack me up...IF SOA were to bring that car over it's price coverts to $54,998.00 and very few of you would be able to ante up that for it. I agree it's bad ass and I desire to have one in my garage, but do you really think that if SOA brought 300 here they would all sell? I don't...look at the limited number of '06 Spec B's...there are still some sitting around.
Until SOA see's quite a bit more demand for Legacy performance models at a price they can afford to sell them at we won't be getting any...even if they offered that car at $45,000 you guys would be complaining over the price...

Does this Legacy tuned by Sti have the STi hubs as well (114mm vs 100mm)?
Does it have DCCD? Does it have a front Limited slip differential?
Cheers

I know it probably makes no difference, but I emailed SOA asking flat out if we are going to get a LGT Sti in which of course their reply was nothing is planned for the US market, but the request was forwarded to the future product planning. SO maybe as a community if we email enough requests maybe they might think about releasing one to the US market.

Trust me I'm not holding my breath about it. I just thought that maybe if we as a large group mass emailed them for it, maybe they might get a clue about what their customer base actually wants instead of the bean counters telling us what we want.

oh my word!! what the hell were they thinking with... car parts horse?! WTF?!
If I'd walked into a Subaru showroom with a big poster of that hideous horsework, I'd have the undying urge to get out of there. Nice car though. (stll don't know why they call it a Liberty)
In Australia one of the organisations that looks after deceased serviceman's widows and families is Legacy. At the time the Legacy was introduced to Australia, the idea of calling it that was floated IIRC. The war veterans were generally not happy with the idea (the fact Subaru is Japanese didn't help - I suspect if it was a Renault Legacy no one would have got upset). So Liberty was adopted as the name for the range here in Aus. One of those "storm in a teacup" things but sure Aus is like the rest of the world - you don't deliberately want to p*ss off the war vets...

Yes to Si Drive but no to VDC - the Spec B here doesn't come with VDC but VDC is std on the normal GT(which is available only in auto).

Bleh...I'll keep my modded 05 non-limited GT FTW!
It's nice, but with no REAL increase in HP...It's really just another (overpriced) pretty face and some badge engineering.
Anything touting the almighty "STI" badge better have at LEAST 300hp to back it up...especially for that much $$$.
If it ever makes it here, my next car will hopefully be something like this

the dollar/yen comparison is why we don't / won't have one of these for a while.
Until the dollar is back on top, and China's economic games are put to a stop, we'll be in this position for a while.
Awesome looking car though.

I would agree that part of it is econmical, but a lot of it is also the fact that Subaru doesn't think the demand is there for it. They feel that anyone that wants a sportier LGT would be satisfied with the spec B and that's enough. They also probably didn't want a car in their own line up to compete againist the Wrx Sti. They should have gotten a clue that an up scale performance car is exactly what subie people are wanting by how fast they sold out of the Sti Limited's. Hell I wanted one cause they got rid of all the boy racer stuff and made it more up scale.

picked MY07 Libert GT SPEC B STI in Black w/ Gunmetal Rims on Friday, trades MY06 WRX STI which was stage 2. All I can say is damn what a great car and it is a step up overall no question in my mind. Yes you could try and piece this together on a std GT Spec B but you would not get the same car imo. Si-drive is amazing and dash controls and steering wheel controls could not be replicated easily. It rocks and I love being both an american and australian for the record !!

YES, but that doesnt make them American cars !! FHI is a Japanese Company. Those are only for the US and maybe Canada.

You are correct mate. My car was made in Japan as GT Spec B then handed over to STI for tuning and modifications.
i think i would rather have a regular lgt or spec b and just add the sti parts you want and the better performance parts, rebadge it and yur set and def have more than 260hp... just my opinion

I believe theirs is a 2.0L were North America gets a 2.5L. Right away we get the bigger engine. That and they would have a hard time selling a more expensive version then a spec B that only has 10 more horsepower.

You believe or have been informed wrong mate, Australia get the 2.5 ltr engine too! It's not just about the supposed increase 10 kw (not HP) and remember this at the fly not the wheel. The tuned by sti ecu has been tested and tuned for Australian conditions as opposed to Japan, USA, etc. The same goes for the suspension.
If you start trying to buy the exact parts from STI and bolting them on your Spec B you will find the cost will beat you!! Trust me because the exercise has been calculated several times by other Spec B owners here in Australia. Try pricing the items such as the brembos with s/s brake lines, enkei wheels wrapped in Pirelli tires, leather sti seats, front and rear lip, etc...

Hi I'm new here, but just completed purchase of my new GT tuned by STi - I test drove both the STi and the normal spec B while at the dealership; there is definitely a difference in the handling and power of both cars. The tuned by STi is meaner off the lights... having traded in a MY03 WRX Hatch, I found the power a bit of a let down in comparison, but hey, wife wanted a family car and this was my answer heh heh ...

$64,000 CDN dollars or $$60,000 USD; that's just plain F$%@*D!!! Sure it's a REALLY nice vehicle but there is a serious problem here.
Pricing discrepancies between markets is simply insane and specifically in Canada where just across the border in the US a Legacy GT can be picked up for under $30K USD where it actually STARTS at around $40K CDN dollars for the equivalent model. And there's no duty if you take one across the border because it's built in the US and North America is a (relatively) free trade zone.
Maybe we need to ship some down to Australia!

I have had this discussion with members on www.iwsti.com (http://www.iwsti.com) and tried to get them to understand a couple of simple issues when comparing AUS$ vs US$ vs Can$ see post #85 for summary from one of my canadian friends http://www.iwsti.com/forums/showthread.php?t=83152&page=5
The fundamental issue is whats the average salary in each country, here in Australia we have a booming economy and salaries offered by employers have just exploded. It's nothing for a 22 year old to earn AUS$100,000 pa for working in the mining industry as a tradesman, engineer or miner!

Glad you Aussies have a cool car now! 70K is a real nip in the wallet, but same for any new car, I guess. I know a lot of car pricing has to do with the Gov't of the country you live in. Many countries have effective taxes that influence the price but don't show in the sticker. Gov't puts fees on the Manufacturer for lots of things... safety, smog, gas guzzler, carbon tax , to name a few. Don't know specifically about Australia's import/export fees/levies/tariffs/taxes - but I would bet my socks that is a major part of the price difference.
Guess I'll show the OP to the Captain - she thinks 32K for my Spec.B was waaay to much to pay for a car
See what a Great Deal I got, Honey?

Unfortunately from what I've been hearing from a guy that just got the inserts is that they don't fit the US bumpers even with some modification. One guy so far had tried with no luck.
