Background: In the Siberian region of Russia cooking uses three simple basic ingredients: Potatoes, Beef and Dough. I am originally from these cold parts of Russia and today I decided to use what I had in the fridge to create a simple yet tasty dish.

Prep: Before pulling out the camera I boiled potatoes in a pot for about 15-20 minutes and cut them up into slices. I greased an oven safe pan, pot or whatever you call it in America.

You can make your own dough or you can use the pizza dough found in the stores which I used. Spread it out at the bottom, cover the dough with the sliced potatoes and sprinkle some salt. Slice up half an onion and layer on top of the potatoes. Chop up carrots and whatever other veggies you'd like on top. Pour tomato sauce and sprinkle the top with some cheese. If you'd like to be fancy you can do Goat cheese but I keep it simple like in Mother Russia and just did plain Mild Cheddar.

Brown some ground beef and add salt, pepper, fresh garlic (we don't have crap in the can in Mother Russia) and chili powder if you'd like some spice. Once the beef is browned pour over the cheese.

You are almost there. Now just cover your creation with another pizza dough and try to connect the bottom dough to the top. If you can't connect it that's fine, just come close. Rub some olive oil on top of the dough to get a nice tasty bread crust when it is done baking.

Just put your creation into a preheated oven at 375 degrees for about half an hour. You can then serve this creation with some sour cream on the side and I promise you this can get some thumbs up from all your guests.

Not only does this get you brownie points, thumbs up, etc. but it tastes fantastic especially when served with a bit of sour cream.

That looks very good.

I had a Russian roomate once.. he fried chicken for the both of us one night and it was still very red inside. He told me he likes it medium rare. Glad to see not all Russians cook like him :)

Bwahaha! He is nuts, nobody eats chicken medium rare in Russia. Rare is more like it.

That reminds me of my schools calzone's for lunch...basically the same thing, with the same amount of grease but just cheese and meat!

That looks good!
