(or other single losers like me)
Start by frying some shrimp up in butter. (I usually throw in some garlic, but I was out... )
http://i15.tinypic.com/43g2vkm.jpg
Step 2.. gather the rest of the ingredients
http://i17.tinypic.com/2ngzw3c.jpg
Step 2.5.. boil the pasta (didn't take photo)
Step 3.. drain the pasta, rince off all the starch (didn't take photo)
Step 4.. heat up sauce, add shrimp and diced tomatoes
http://i19.tinypic.com/4h1gep4.jpg
Step 5.. add the pasta back to the sauce and heat back up
http://i19.tinypic.com/2v8gy2h.jpg
Step 6.. Make salad by adding the remaining tomatoes to the pre-pckaged salad

Step 7.. enjoy

You just made Coxx http://images.nasioc.com/forums/images/smilies/furious.gif
Are we going to need another forums for visual cooking guides? Or do we just put this in the "Walkthroughs :: Basic Operation & Maintenance" area?

Why in the hell would I go to all that trouble to make that shrimp sissy dish, when I could just drink whiskey and eat left over cold pizza? If I didn't have a wife to make sure I didn't do exactly that, I would live on whiskey and cold pizza.

Because I like to er.. live it up a bit...
The night before it was stuffed salmon with veggies over rice, Wednesday it will be a roast chicken, and no.. not the pre-roasted crap at the grocery store. :)

you never rinse pasta, just drain.
the flavor is in the salted/starchy water and you want it to stick to the pasta.

wrong. if you don't rinse, it sticks together. proper fresh pasta has all the flavor you need.

wrong. if you don't rinse, it sticks together. proper fresh pasta has all the flavor you need.
in addition, you run a little cool water to stop it cooking further. But you still want some of the pasta water to put in the sauce.
Coxx may think all I know about is lox, but he is dead wrong. I cook some serious eye-talian food.

wrong! after the drain you mix in the sauce right away.
the eye-talians then put it back in the pan and heat it up, then serve.

That is the way to do it. It allows the pasta to absorb some of the flavor of the sauce it is served with and prevents the pasta from becoming a gummy sticky mess.
I'm not much of a pasta guys anymore since I try to eat low carb, but I do love to eat and cook and I pretty dang good at both!:icon_cool

People here fight about everything.
Pasta?
Rinse it! Don't rinse it! Leave the starch (?!) on! Leave some water on it! Don't let it keep cooking! Put is back in the pan! Take it out of the pan!

So do you rinse or not? All I was saying is that your ancestors are rolling over in their graves right now
heights - Do you know how hard it is to get lox around here? They like to serve smoked salmon and pass it off at proper lox and it makes me :icon_cry:

I totally misunderstood what you meant.
No, I never rinse off pasta, that's crazy talk. I take it out of the pot & drain it. It wont stick together if you put a little oil in the water & you stir it as it boils. I do put a drop of red sauce in it after it's cooked & throw it back in the pot for a quick second.
I don't like lox. I dont like salmon at all. It's pretty much the ONLY seafood I wont eat

I will never order salmon for dinner (like a fillet) but I will have salmon sushi. I also HATE smoked salmon sushi.

+1 & +1. I'll eat it in a sushi roll but it wouldn't be my 1st choice. I only eat those rolls when I'm out with a few people & someone else orders it.

Saute 3 TBLS of butter with a small onion, more or less chopped up.
Add 2 cans MEDIUM canned shrimp
Add 2 cans Campbell's Cream of Shrimp soup
Add 1/2 cup or so of Sour Cream
Add a lot of good curry powder(the hotter the better)
Heat but do not boil
Serve with (yup, really) Minute Rice
YUMMMMMMMMM
Great Camping Recipe. Put the sour cream in a bag, it does not spoil!

I'm going to pwn all you nOOBs with my Spicy Sausage Spagetti. The sauce is so chunky, you need a fork to spoon it out.

Right, I can't cook.. I rely on pre-made pasta sauces and pre-packaged salads to survive.. :(
There is a difference between cooking and preparing. I can cook just fine. I can cook up fish, roast a chicken, make nice pasta, cook veggies, etc... but I can't make my own sauces, seasonings, maranades, etc... getting there tho.. I just need my new kitchen :D

Don't rinse the pasta, simply drain then throw back in the same pot and add a tablespoon of butter. It gives the pasta a great taste, much better than olive oil.

Haha. I have a lady friend that cooks. I always ask what I can make and she just says bring a box of wine. I don't think she trusts me, despite my food handler's license, which isn't even expired yet.

Not to throw a grenade into things, but there are supposedly some great wines coming out in boxes. It's a 'green' alternative to bottles and when packaged properly can really be beneficial to the wine.
Now, you aren't going to age a wine in one of these, this box wine is intended to be consumed now. But truth told, most people drink wine before it ever gets anywhere near prime, so who cares whether it comes from a box or a bottle?

it's just for aesthetics really. It seems more classy to have wine from a bottle than a box. It's the same as how it seems more classy when the wine has a cork instead of a screw cap even though there are alot of good wines with a screw cap these days.

buy a $7 bottle of wine
Why when I could get 5 liters of wine for $11
And Brady is right. More companies are offering boxed wines as it supposedly preserves the wine better. Not to mention that it alot of fun slappin the bag of Yellow tail.
Brady
01-05-2008, 02:07 PM
Yellow tail is piss.
If you're getting 5 liters for $11, you're drinking turpentine and red food coloring.
More companies are offering boxed wines because it's a green alternative. Not because it's necessarily better for the wine. If that was the ONLY concern, then most would still stick with bottles and screw tops. The exception is when you have a bag and the bag collapses, but that wasn't so much what I was talking about. I meant more along the lines of the some of the organic growers who are packaging their wines in recycled boxes and still portioned in .5, .75 or 1 liter boxes.
heightsgtltd
01-05-2008, 02:27 PM
It depends on the kind of wine Brady
Screw tops actually are better for the wine aging than cork is.
Boxes are good for young wines, but you can't really age and store wine in the boxes.
Brady
01-05-2008, 02:40 PM
The Screw Top vs. Cork for aging is a contentious subject. While I agree that cork is less consistent, I don't think a screw top ages as well. That's my opinion.
heightsgtltd
01-05-2008, 02:51 PM
corks can afffect the wine, screw caps cant.
Especially for cellaring ones, people are concerned about the wine becoming corked, or disintegrating. Both concerns that are non-issues with screw caps.
Brady
01-05-2008, 02:58 PM
I agree that cork has its drawbacks, but I do like that it allows that subtle amount of breathing. You don't get that with screw tops.
They both have advantages and disadvantages. I happily buy both. I just like cork a little better. :)
