I sure hope that they offer it with DVD navigation. If they are going to be pushing $30k in price it needs this and HID's to compete with cheaper Acura's. If it's not offered it could be a deal breaker for me.

I keep forgetting Subaru is basically a GM company influence wise. On-Star is how'd they would go. I don't see them going with DVD Navigation just yet. I don't know why. :(

If On-Star were free that would be fine, but I'm not paying a monthly fee to use it. I just drove the Acura TSX and TL and their Nav systems were great! I really liked the TSX, but it was pretty gutless, and the TL is on the pricey side with some fairly nasty torque steer. I just want AWD, HID's and a DVD nav system. Whoever comes up with that gets my $$$.

Go upwards to Audi then. Maybe VW for a fat, heavy Passat. It won't make any sense for there to be DVD navigation because of the OnStar relationship already started. If it's that big of a deal but you like the Legacy price, why not look at aftermarket systems which I hear tend to be better?
Alpine is highly regarded for its navigation, and there would be various options for the screen display. How bout we make this a suggestion thread for anybody who knows about aftermarket dvd nav.?
so i hear no nav....what do you guys think of this?

Pretty cool, especially since it has the vehicle dynamics feature. Nothing like getting a unit that has navigation and can measure how much faster your car is getting with mods. :D

That's awesome! Where would you put it in the Legacy?

It's a single DIN unit, so it would replace the stock Legacy CD player. I'm not sure about what install kit would be used, as I have not seen how the stock unit is mounted.

This was a photo sourced by mines and shows an in-dash dvd nav system, and I'm sure i've seen others about like this.

That location doesn't look so bad. The price does - $2,200!

Interesting. I wonder if the surrounding trim pops off so the head unit can be removed since that looks stock.

You may have to pop a few panels to get to that point, but you should be able to pull the panel before pulling the head unit. IIRC, at least that is how it is in my BD Legacy (though thank god haven't had to open the dash in a few months. )

It's been mentioned elsewhere, but Subaru (of Japan) provides a replacement dash cover for those who wish to use third party stero gear. That's probably what's happened here.
I'm sure SOA will also provide the same part, or at the very least someone will import them.

I can't imagine they'll offer one stock to us with our cars. It may be an option however.

It'll probably be an option, or accessory that'll be available in 6 months, just like the accessories for the Jap market.

Maybe it won't come with a radio and it will be called Legacy STi!

from Edmunds.com:

"Dual-zone automatic climate control is available this year, but Subaru has no plans to offer a high-power audio system on par with the competition in this price range. The top-line Outback gets a seven-speaker system with a subwoofer and MP3 compatibility, but other Outbacks and Legacys make do with a mundane six-speaker setup. We were told, however, that a navigation system will be available starting in the 2006 model year."
one more year... :(

Since NAV will come sooner or later, that means the stock headunit must have inputs for them right?
I wonder if the DIN conversion is just the face plate or would we need new brackets behind it too? The stock headunit seems wider than a DIN.

The Avic-N1 is nice unit. Watching movies is a bonus. The only downside is that you have the navigation disc in the unit to use the navi (although you can take it out after you map a route).
I'd be very surprised if the navi option isn't in the $2-$2.5k range. There won't be too many takers if it is much more expensive.

yeah, thats why I don't like DVD Nav.
I wonder if it would work in conjunction with XM.
The dollar is pretty weak internationally right now, I'd expect it to come in more around 2500 - 3000 at most.

tell me about it
I nearly ran myself broke when I was in Dublin.
I stayed at the Clarence and it was about $400/night
had I went a few months earlier, it would have been about $120...

Tide, that and the VAT adds a bit as it appears, but still, not cheap, many aftermarket systems appear to do the job better, but lack the gauge input. I'm sure someone will come up with an interactive setup with the screen. Would be nice to see a fully interactive system, even better than that on the GT-R models, though I will say that is definitely not going to be cheap if someone makes such a setup. The dash is perfect for it though, now more than any previous model.
Although aftermarket will be cheaper, it presents two problems IMHO:
1) So much easier to steal.
2) Not factory integrated.
The factory integration, esp on the Legacy, is the key to a slick nav. Now if the software sucks, well...
I think its worth some markup for the fit and finish. We'll have to see, we're speculating on the 06' when 05 isn't in our hands yet...

I think I would rather have an OEM nav system, its just looks so much better when it is integrated into the design of the dash.
the one problem that I see with the Pioneer unit is that once you drive out of the area that you have loaded, you have to load the DVD again, or you have to leave it in. Also, as it loads into memory, how much map detail can it actually have?
just a thought and my $0.02

how about this one? is it a nav?

Based on the screen alone, I'm guessing that one is not a NAV unit. Most of the nav units have color screens.

just want to share some infos which i have collected about the TomTom Nav.
http://membres.lycos.fr/blueskytuning1/tt1.jpg
i have been doing some searchings lately for the Nav, as its not an option for B4. as far as i can tell, TomTom Go seems to be the best so far in terms of the outlook, GUI, and function. It will arrive the states on July 15. i have heard the TomTom Go is a great hit in Europe; further, most of the googles results of tomtom go are not in english. Amazon is selling it at 899 and harmonycomputers.com for 749, both includes free shipping. although it seems to be a bit expesnsive when comparing to similar device, especailly to PDA GPS, but it seems this one has the best overall package.
here is a brief review of it:

Interesting... Looks like there are different NAV systems available from subaru japan. What's nice is some of these mounting kits don't have buttons, which will be nice for fitting aftermarket screens. Too bad I can't read japanese. These both appear to be panasonic units. I wonder how easy it would be to get some english/US maps for these..

Hell, just getting my iPod hooked up is my first quest, but second is the GPS navigation. I wonder how I could get that tomtom unit in the top dash console storage...
