Very nice Paul! I'd have to say doesn't look at all like the previous dark blue of our '04 models called Mystic Blue Pearl. Maybe it's the light, maybe it's the camera, but that color just looks so darn sexy!
Perhaps the new Regal Blue Pearl is lighter.

Aaaand the answer is: Regal Blue!
Random facts of the day - even the manual transmission cars get an ECO mode. :o
And at least in the period of time when the engine is being broke in, it is actually a bit better for driving around town smoothly.
The STi spoiler was added at the dealer as an option (part of intense negotiations period). It is not mentioned anywhere in the literature, but there is a STi lip spoiler for the non-Spec B models, as evidenced by these pics. ;)
No pictures of the interior yet - those are difficult to take. Suffice to say, it looks just like the press photos. :p
BTW, it comes with a "premium" sound system standard, with 6-CD unit and MD. It actually sounds quite good, very close to the level of the MacIntosh in the previous B4.
Cheers,

I didn't think I'd consider any color that was dark for the reason that a lighter color is easier to "live with" as they generally show less dirt.
But that Regal Blue Pearl is actually making me rethink it too. In those photos, it's amazing. The depth and color on the "highlights" on the curved/angled surfaces is amazing.

Please take this as a guess at the moment, I want to ask Subaru/STi about it.
In regards to the ECO mode on the manual transmission, I feel it is one of two things. The simplest one would be that when pressing the ECO mode button it switches over to another set of instructions for the DBW throttle, which reduces inputs from the throttle. This is tracked in conjunction with the new system for tracking fuel consumption. This only works for the first 20% of pedal travel - going beyond that, the Eco light goes off and it basically goes to "normal" for accelerating from lights/passing/hooning, etc.
The more complicated option would be that it is switching to a completely new map in the ECU, one optimized for mileage over performance.
I noticed that the engine actually sounds different between the two modes, which points towards it being No.2, and possibly to it actually modifying quite a few engine parameters, from the AVCS to the amount of boost available. It was noticeably more torquey and responsive even just cruising at 2500-3000rpm, comparable to the feel of a low-compression engine suddenly switched to a high-compression engine.
Neat stuff. I will get some accurate information out of Subaru about this, because this may impact the tuning community quite a bit. If it has the ability to switch maps in the ECU, that means that it can store more than one map. It also means that it is likely to be a far more complicated ECU than in the USDM STi - reflash solutions may be a *long* way off.
Cheers,
Paul Hansen

Its a totally different beast, but like those stupid VW bug commercials where the guy can't get the bug off of his mind, I can't stop thinking about the R32. It sure got alot of attention at the car show.
Regarding the leather seats and dogs: I think our pooch will be riding in the way-back in the new car unless we are traveling, which would then call for some try of bench seat cover for the back seats. She gets her nails clipped regularly too.

Nothing new here, but here's a pic of the '05 Outback from the Denver Auto Show I found while doing a little spring cleaning from the hard drive.

I like the front bumper better than the legacy, and I like the fender flares too. I just don't like that huge gap between the tire and the wheel well. I'm still pretty sure I'll stick with the legacy GT wagon, ...

ok, i like the blue now!
but maybe it only looks good on JDM models.
what's the bottom thing under the front bumper called again?
a lip or something?
and wouldn't it be better to add a spoiler at the back? hahaa

The thing under the front bumper fascia is generally referred to as a front lip or front spoiler or similar.
If the tail of the car has sufficient downforce by design, you shouldn't really need more at back unless you're doing some very agressive tracking of the car. You will see many race cars that have lower front lips to cut the air up front which effectively reduces the CD by a slight amount and helps produce more downforce IIRC which will help during all conditions. It may only be somewhat of a hazard if you tend to use a lot of steep driveways. Then it's not so friendly.
Isn't that basically the gist of it Paul and Anton?

A wagon and I with a minor change...
Both were shot in overcast conditions, did not get the silver wagon quite right, a little dark.

^so what's the bottom line on the JDM's headlights compatability on the USDM models?
...and those wheels just don't work with the dark blue. :?

Those are STi/Rays wheels, either 17x7, 7.5 or 8" wide. I think those are Paul's race wheels he had on the RSK IIRC. I like the design, but the gold might not be ideal with that color IMO, but in person everything changes too.. I'm not as much against gold as some others are though.

Wheel color wouldn't be my choice on that color, but those are AWESOME wheels! I think I understand why someone would put them on with any color. They also cost A TON!
Love those wheels..

Ah, so that's what Paul meant by not having it stock on the outside. I like those rims. I think the color works with that rim, although, it would not be my first color choice. That rim only comes in bronze though, huh? I bet it would look better in white. Anyways, I still love it. Can't wait to see how it looks when you lower it, if you do.

That is the problem - good wheels, but naff color matching for the car. BTW, they are not much lighter than the stock rims, actually within a pound or so. The stock ones are pretty good, actually.
But these are 50 offset vs. 53, so I've gained a bit of track.
But they have the P-Zero Nero's on them, which do not have the traction of the 050A's. I can tell that even in a straight line, because of torque steer. And that is just going to get worse as the power levels go up.
(yes, the torque in the middle is strong enough that you need to keep a firm grip on the steering wheel when booting it in a straight line...)
They are 7jj as well, not 7.5jj, which is what I am really wanting right now.
So I am debating selling the stock rims/rubber, or these rims and rubber, and getting something light and bling blingity (for my car color) with a 7.5 width that I can stick 225 or 235 series rubber on.
Cheers,
Paul Hansen
