I think there were difference in turbo setups? but most likely it's all in the suspension.. there are some key notes on the exterior body differences such as a different front bumper to the respective models, but I think that's it.
Ive been told that Subaru has a difference between "GT B" and "GT-B" models.. I was informed by another Subaru fanatic about this issue.

There is whats called a GT B spec produced in 1995 - which as far as i know only diff is it has Bilstein suspension.
In 1996 the whole model range had a mid life up date - thus the GTB was born. It has a new front bumper with turning lights - the autos made a bit more power and the manuals made alot more power. Both have Bilsteins and u get more extra twin airbags. A few cosmetic diffs as well

Bang on mate!
The real GT-B was born in 96, with stiffer shell, bigger brakes, 17" wheels, master-4 280ps engine on the manual (260 on auto), Bilsteins etc. Oh, and those all important projector headlights:D
The GT B spec of the BG5A era was a 250ps model with incredibly stiff dampers of indeterminate origin;) - still handled pretty well though!

Yes forgot about the 17" - now they are sweet rims IMO
Very popular upgrade for the earlier TT's is to fit some GTB rims
