Not having much luck this week searching for things.......

My dome light has "burned out". took the bulb out, and low and behold the filament is still attached to the bulb. looks good still. was there not a post somewhere about an issue with the dome light?

I have seen filaments attached to bad bulbs. My guess is it is a bad bulb.

Get a dealer to fix it under warranty.

Get a dealer to fix it under warranty.

that assumes it's still under warranty.

Carlo - I've got a multimeter.....if you are down this way, stop by and we can test the bulb. or, just buy another....maybe a cool blue color

Mine burned out and looked intact. Replaced it and I have light again.

Mine burnt out twice in the 4 or 5 months I've had the car! I told the dealer when I was listing all the things I wanted fixed under warranty and he said they have a problem with the contact getting dirty and causing the bulb to blow. I'm not sure if this is BS or not, but at least it's an admission that they know it as a problem. The buggers still charged me for it, though.

From here on until the warranty ends, they're replacing it if it blows again. I owned my last car for 8 years and never blew the interior light . . this is a Subaru problem.

It is still burned out, and get some spares, the quality control on the bulbs suck. One lasted a week.:(

right. resurrecting an old thread here. My F'N dome lights keep burning out. both in the passenger area and in the trunk. Both sets of bulbs I put in only lasted 1 week.

What the F#$$K gives?

Are you touching the bulbs with your hands when you install them? Oil from your fingers usually creates small hot spots on the bulbs. Probably more of a concern for the higher wattage bulbs like your headlights and taillights though.

You might want to consider some of the LED options, for greater
longevity and brilliance.

I usually use a paper towel or cloth when installing bulbs. Bulbs are like MD strip joints... no touchy touchy.

my thoughts on that were whether or not there was an issue with the light units themselves. if so it wouldn't matter what I put in.

But since you brought it up, what other options are there? I know of MachV's

You only need to worry about this when you're dealing with high heat light sources such as halogen and xenon lamps. The reason for this is because they use quartz instead of cheap soda glass and the oil and perspiration on your fingers will penetrate the glass and weaken it. This almost always leads to shortened bulb life.

I'd recommend hooking up a multimeter to your battery while the car is running to check that your voltages are within spec levels. They shouldn't get higher than around 14-15 volts while running. Also measure it while the car is at higher/driving RPMs to see if the alternator overshoots under those conditions.

edit: Quick question, what kind of fog lights are you using? Not SilverStars per chance?

nope no silverstars. ordered a set through susquehanna motor sports. running same wattage.

Yeah, MachV are crazy expensive. I was thinking of 'em for my map
lights, until I removed the lens cover and saw how much brighter they
became, so I'm simply thinking of increasing the size of the hole in
the shade on the lens cover (if I can figure out how to do it neatly).

Dealextreme.com has a bunch of LED replacement bulbs for super-
cheap, but you have to click down into each one to determine its size.
