View Full Version : Anyone use a cdt upstage kit?

I am in the process of putting new components and dampening my doors, and noticed the stock tweeter location is angled up and towards the windshield. So my question is I am mounting both my regular components in a coaxial style setup down low, but I also happen to have a cdt upstage kit laying around which I have never used and thought perhaps the stock tweeter location might be good for this. Has anyone tried this?

Got the braxials in the doors and the upstage kit in the factory location. Yes, it helps. The door mount is far from ideal, but it does help reduce the localization effect and moves the stage up, but not away from the doors. I've heard systems with the upstage correctly mounted and the difference is huge. I plan on moving mine to the A-pillars soon.

Ive been kinda tempted to, but with the braxials alone the stage is fine for me. Too scared of spending a lot of time to make it worse lol

For $69, it's worth it. Even the 219 series will have a positive impact.

Though I must say, Im not terribly fond of the idea of running all the wire and mounting.

Just out of curiosity, what crossover settings and tweeter positioning have you found to be the best sounding to you so far?

I also was looking at the traditional pillar placement, but that would require drilling holes and having exposed (non-stealth) tweeters as well...so I'm going to try the doors first.

Installing your own system is a labor of love if you're an enthusiast. It's not for everyone.

That's exactly the same reason why I went ahead and put them in the stock location. I've only had them in for a couple of months, but I believe it sounds better with than without. Even in the less than optimal location, but I'm still in the test phase. One day I may get motivated enough to pop the a-pillars and find a way.

For now, I have them pointed straight towards the front window. They can only point forward so far before the door panel hits it. Because the tweeters are so close, you should keep the upstage in the low setting, otherwise it's just in your face annoying. Reminds me of the old MB Quarts... :)

My settings are:

Crossover: Lo/Hi
Tweeter Level: Lo/Lo

The current Lo/Hi raises the crossover point to the braxials to something 60hz or higher is my guess. The midbass is much tighter, but can't go as low. When I was testing Lo/Lo it was as if it was straight pass through. So far, I prefer the tight and hard hitting Lo/Hi setting. I've got a 3sixty.2 on the way and then I'll move it back to Lo/Lo and set the crossover point exactly.

I'm still finishing up my sub enclosure, but people ask me already if I have a sub or two in there. Damn the braxials can pound. Coming from a miata, its good to be able to have the midbass felt in your chest again.

That it is. I spent many long hours installing the current system, Im ust enjoying it for awhile before diving in again. :)

The xover module that came with my braxials(satnet480 i think) had an output for upstage tweeters, does the blending module in the link you posted do anything different?

Just wonder what type of spacer everyone is using to mout the CDT speakers. Mine don't even almost fit in the doors.

You can use the IA spacers, but the 1" needed will require 2 sets of front spacers.

I used 5/8"(3/4" MDF) spacers and moved the window about 1/4" back and everything fit just fine.

The CDT's I used were only 2.75" deep so they fit easily with a single set (3/4") of the IA spacers.

Also I have been playing around with the upstage tweeters - which are in the stock locations - and they do definately help bring the sound stage up alot more than just the components mounted coaxially below, but I do think the a-pillars would still be better. Needless to say it sounds really good right now and when I am all done in a week or so I'll post some pics.

I'm on the same path. Just finished dampening my trunk today. :) Getting ready for the sub and my 3sixty.2. Should be done next saturday before the superbowl.

Where can I get these IA spacers from? The set I had wouldn't fit over the basket.
