Ok folks, after finishing my wife's car (http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43400), I will be starting my car this summer. I am looking over the possibilities right now, and this is what I am thinking. Thoughs? :D
Headunit: Stock + JL Cleansweep
Amps: 2 Alpine PDX-4.150, One for the speakers and 1 for the subs(300w bridged for each sub)
Front Speakers: Focal Components in the front (Maybe 165V3E 6-1/2")
Rear Speakers: Focal 2-Way Speakers in the rear (Maybe 165CA1 6-1/2")
Subwoofer: 2 JL Audio 10W3V2-D4s, 1 on each side in a fiberglass enclosure
Dampening: RAAMmat BXT in all the doors and under the wagon's rear bed
Attenuation: Ensolite in all the doors and under the wagon's rear bed
As stated above, I will fabricate a fiberglass box for each sub, one on each side of the car. Here is the box I did for my wife's car...

Thoughs? :D
Headunit: Stock + JL Cleansweep Same as me!
Amps: 2 Alpine PDX-4.150, One for the speakers and 1 for the subs(300w bridged for each sub) I have two alpine amps, but since my sub is in a small enclosure I went for their class-D 600 mono block.
Front Speakers: Focal Components in the front (Maybe 165V3E 6-1/2")
I love my focal fronts. A lot!:icon_mrgr
Rear Speakers: Focal 2-Way Speakers in the rear (Maybe 165CA1 6-1/2")
Waste of money for a speaker that sits low in the rear doors IMO. Get something less expensive.
Subwoofer: 2 JL Audio 10W3V2-D4s, 1 on each side in a fiberglass enclosure Sounds good, I got one fiberglassed enclosured 10.
Dampening: RAAMmat BXT in all the doors and under the wagon's rear bed
DO IT!!!!!!!!
Attenuation: Ensolite in all the doors and under the wagon's rear bed
Did something similiar as well, my doors close like a benz now!
Maybe add a capacitor.

one sub on each side of trunk? facing each other? can you say "cancelation"?

Let me know when you are going to do your fiberglass sub boxes. I want to do one this summer as well, maybe we can split materials.

^^^Cool
Actually, they will be angled forward at about 15 degrees...

No.
The wavelength that subs provide when used from 80 hz and lower (app) are much longer then the 3.5 feet from the face of each driver to the other.
He will not get cancellation.

If tuned correct, but anything below 75hz and he will have cancellation...that is if there are pointing each other, since he just stated that they will be about 15 degrees off, he should be fine

Excuse the noobish question, but what is Ensolite and what is it for?

It is a closed cell foam that is good for attenuating sound (lowering volume), as opposed to just dampening vibrations (dynamat)

We're talking wavelengths of 10 feet or more, so there's no reason to worry about cancellation issues with two subs in a trunk, with or without the 15 degree angles. Most subs act like point sources unless you cross them over really high, or use really small drivers (in which cases they aren't worth calling subs anymore).

Actually, I might have now switched to a single JL 10W7, with a Alpine PDX-1.1000...
And using DLS speakers instead of Focals. Thoughts?

i dbout you will get a lot of opinions on this board about dls versus focal, not too many on here have herad dls :)
depends on what type of sound you prefer, i can tell you that DLS has a more smooth and warm sound than focal, we would probably be more like morel :) also, IMO our speakres work a little better off axis...
but if your call, properly installed, you cant go wrong with either.

oh also, you will find that DLS speakers will fit in the door much easily than the focal ones:

I just put JL VR650 splits in my doors. I cheated - I ripped the cone and the spider out of the standard plastic framed speaker and the JLs sat straight in the hole left.
The plastic frame appears to be strong enough, it maintains the mounting angle and it seals perfectly on the door - it was just too easy. Forget making mdf baffles. Furthermore, it leaves heaps of room for the magnet. I would recommend this method for anybody trying to fit a speaker in the door. Most 6.5 inch drivers should fit, and depth is no problem
As for the original speaker - if Subaru charge what it's worth for a replacement - ie 50c each - then I'll get a pair for later. Otherwise, if I ever need to switch them out to sell the car, I'll just get cheap 6.5 inch drivers. The OEM speaker is worth more as a bracket than as a speaker!
