Stock navi($2k)=flush look or aftermarket nav(cheaper!!)=mounted look? decisions decisions.

Some have mounted a nav in the cubby. Depending on how elaborate, it can look near original equipment.

My is pretty basic but meets my needs, doesn't look half bad, and can be hidden by closing the cubby door.

Alpine has a good option that I am going to try. You take their portable nav system and plug it into a doc and that doc can connect to a 6.5 in touch screen that fits behind the factory nav bezel. Since the screen is flat depth is not a problem. However, you won't have all of the gadgets that you would have on a regular, in-dash unit.

depending on how much money you got, if you have some existing hardware (laptop) that can see service inside the car, depending on your long term goals and what you wish to customize on your system - then a Car PC may be a choice.
There's the Pioneer unit this guy is talking about (6.5 inches) - with or withour the cradle; there's the single din and double din options from Eclipse; Pioneer; Kenwood; Panasonic but to each his own.

If you want a mobile GPS solution combined with the big screen of a fixed navi solution, then the Alpine Blackbird + screen + cradle is the only way to go.

Other mobile units besides the Garmins, there's CLARION N.I.C.E. and the NICE P200. JVC got a cute one as well...and these are multimedia - with 10 Gb MP3, movies HD.

if you get the single din cubby from japan you can get a flip screen.

Hugh? Often? I use the audio system (NAV traffic included) in my car every single second I'm seated in the driver's seat. The factory system was the first thing to go when I bought the car.
