I'm pretty lame on sound systems. Mega watts I don't need. To give you some idea I find that the stock sound system on my GT is fine however--Yesterday my car radio's digital display went black. I do require digital display. The sound system otherwise works fine. The car is still under warranty however I'm not sure if radios are covered. Don't ask me why.
Anyway I was wondering if anyone else has had this happen and what was the outcome? If the system must be replaced under warranty is there an upgraded system that plugs in that the dealer could replace it with? Or if it is not a covered item can the display be repaired? Or what types of new technology and features is better to install from the aftermarket.

Here's an old thread on what I believe to be the same issue as you're experiencing:

It'll most likely be covered, take it to the dealer.
If it's not, keep an eye around here and in the classified section, you may come across an OEM unit.

The radio disply is covered by the 3yr/36000mi new car warranty.
Subaru techs don't work on radios, so they just swap them out. It'd be nice to swap in a 2007 radio, which supports MP3 discs, XM satellite and AUX-IN.

Odds are it'll get swapped with a reman identical to the one pulled out. It would be so cool if warranty allowed for upgrades to current specs, but what was warranteed was an 05 radio. It'll get replaced with an 05. I've had customers want to upgrade and pay for the difference, but I can't do it. The factory isn't going to pay the amount of money that would fix it (like an insurance company would), they're repairing a defect. In the factory's eyes, you can buy an 07 car if you want an 07 radio.

I had this problem once or twice. The dealer swapped out the faceplate to correct a climate control issue. Problem has not returned.
Since then, I have swapped out the whole thing for the OEM mp3 HU w/climate control:)

Dealer warranted the radio. An '05 radio was installed. I would have liked the '07 for abvious reasons. Thanks for the responses.
