White subies rock, great pics. Funny, I have a white legacy but almost bought a white STI on the lot. They couldn't get ride of it. they were going to sell it for some price under 30 grand, but I lost of track of what happend to it.

Great pics, looks like a blast.

That's an unusual snowfall for Vancouver especially so early in the season.

Nice pix.

It's crazy here for us fair-weathered people. Temps down to -10C tonight. Steady snow fall for over 48 hours so far and no signs of letting up or melting. Very unusual for greater Vancouver area.

We normally get one day of snow here per year and it's melted by the next day:lol:

But I hear its puking snow up at Whistler and in the Interior (Big White, Sun Peaks). 3 feet of fluffy powder snow in the last day at Sun Peaks!!

Man, I'd kill to be up there now!

Hello,

Slightly off topic. I am heading up to Vancouver late Dec from SF CA. Do you think I can manager the snow with the RE92's? I wouldn't like to plow into anyone with my new ride (new to me anyway).

You'll do better than 95% of the other cars on the road. There really isn't much snow at all in the Vancouver area. This weather they've been having is almost unheard of.

You should be fine. The main roads here right now in the city are as snowy/ slushy/ icy as I've seen them in 10 years.
The back roads are completely packed down and frozen over and my manual wagon has done just fine the last two days, even on the stock tires.

Slow and steady wins the race, but the AWD is really an incredibly good feature to have. It's been working well for me.

Makes me want to turn a spring '07 Outback purchase for my wife into an early Christmas present.:)

Thanks guys. I wasn't too sure. I've heard so many different responses from different people. But you guys would know for sure. Its gonna be a long and hopefully fun drive! BTW. Hi everyone!

OH!!!! Every more so slightly off topic. Can anyone link me the map (google map?) to all those Chinese shopping malls in Vancouver (or was that Richmond). I recall going to a place where there were just rolls after rolls of Chinese malls. I was just a kid then, so I don't remember much of it. I stepped into a magical box with wheels and when i woke up from my nap, I was there!

Just find your way into Richmond and get ready to battle the 1000000+ asian ladies swirving your way on the road.... Once you see the endless numbers of lexus, mercedes and BMW trying to back up in parking spots for over 20 times, yup you're there lol

avalanche011
11-27-2006, 05:25 PM
OMG!!! That is exactly how I remembered it! It was a sight to be seen! The parking lots had exclusively Hondas, BMWs, Merc's and Lexus' LMAO! So its in Richmod huh?

Yes. Richmond.

I've seen a lot of changes to this town since I moved here in 1979.

basically there is a 10 square mile radius near Alderbridge Way and 3 Road where it's exclusively Asian. More hairdressing boutiques and bubble tea houses per capita than anywhere else in the world.

Edit- Sorry Jimmy to jack the awesome photo thread. Car looks terrific as always!

Wow. I haven't been back to Vancouver for at least 10 years. I'm sure some things must of changed or maybe not. What I can remember is that I was overwhelmed by how much Chinese influence there were. I come from San Francisco and most would think I am use to it, but its nothing compared to Vancouver.

OK...Back to the topic. Sorry HKC

Vancouver is the closest major Western city by air to Hong Kong. With good immigration terms from Canada (Hong Kong and Canada are/were both members of the British Commonwealth), a lot of Chinese set up second residences when Hong Kong was handed back to China.

Chinese drivers are the worst. They tool along in their own little world. They're kind of like US Republicans in that regard but aren't nearly as recklessly aggressive.

Lets just limit that sterotyping to the Asian females and middleaged Asian men population......

Also include N drives with supercars and exclude Asian Legacy drivers that is it...

Actually you'd be surprised. The storm seems to have completely skipped over everything from Squamish to Pemberton. And it probably shows in the snow base of local mountains compared with Whistler/Blackcomb...

Please don't generalize and stereotype. You are insulting the majority of Vancouver members on this forum.

Edit- comparing them to republicans is an insult to them too~:icon_wink

I'm being specific. The Vancouver members know very well of what I write. The first generationers bring thier old customs and succeeding generations become Canadianized or Americanized as the case may be. It has always been that way and forever will be that way.

Uhh, sure, but you still say that 'Chinese drivers are the worst'. That's pretty harsh and more than a little racist.

I guess because you believe it to be true, it's fine to post up?

These weather patterns are crazy, it's 15 degrees here (C), and will stay that way most of the week. I was out putting the Christmas lights up yesterday in my shirt sleeves.

If this is global warming, bring it on

My parents lived in Richmond from 1999-Oct 2006. I visited them every year and I must agree that the chinese drivers from China are horrible drivers and when it snows it makes it more apparent.

FYI: I myself am Asian and grew up in Hawaii which is predominantly asian. Im not racist, i thought there were lots of hotties there in Richmond, its just they can't drive safely

Awesome pics BTW.

-_-
Stereotype explained:

A lot of thats cause ppl learned to drive on the other side, where traffic is x10 more hectic and x10 more aggressive than North America. Try driving in HK.. 90% of people raised here will not be able to move 10 feet in a car. I find a lot of 'middle-aged' asian ladies, even if they did get their license back home, didn't drive alot, and are pretty much learning how to drive for the first time over here, and it's not easy to pick things up when you're 40ish going on 50.

I will post a couple pics when I get home.. sure has been fun and I am really glad I have the Nokian tires on. Half an inch of powder with the RE92's on my old Outback had the rear end fishtailing all over the place and the front end not following steering inputs at all. Much different story, even with 60% worn WR's.

Just a set of new tires, that's about it.

Came really close to getting new wheels, but couldn't justify it, there was other things I wanted to buy. Looking at a new carbon fibre road bike for the spring instead.

I have a new love for the wagon with this weather we're getting right now. :)

I know it's off topic, but I just came from New Zealand a week ago or so, and I couldn't believe the amount of Asians that are over there. I was joking with some of the guys in the So.Cal section and the were like "We're taking over the world"
