SoCal Midnight Meet 3 Photo Thread

Hi all,

It's 3AM... why am I still awake?

Anyway, good meet tonight... Leggys, Imprezas, a Forester, and an Outback. Nice variety.

Took these down at Long Beach Shoreline Village. I forgot to do a white balance on my shots, and am too lazy to do adjustments in ALR right now, so I'm sorry that the colors are all over the place.

If anyone wants to see more pics of a certain car, please post up and I'll see what I can do.

And oh yeah, if you were there and have shots to share, please post them up.

Hey All,

Great Pix Mike! :) Thanks for starting the thread. Yah, we had a great turnout tonight guys! LegacyGT.com was out and representing in Southern California tonight, in the LBC ;).

The Queen Mary was a nice backdrop, and nice weather as usual. Glad to see so many regular LGT'ers in person! Everyone's car was so sweet! Lots of ideas for new mods :icon_bigg.

Brother Mike's New Camera Of Doom(TM) was in full effect! :) Did I say how SICK these pictures look? :)

I want more pix of #10! :p ;) :lol: (actually all the cars.)

Can't wait to see Reza's, Merv's, Urfsin's, Axis008's and everyone else's photos.

Mike - your camera (and skilz) are simply astounding!

if you weren't there, you'd probably think the place was bathed in light. I'm amazed how well your camera picks up what little ambient light there was.

To a notice photographer like me, it just looked WAY too dark outside. I mean it was nearly black!

And where are the pics over next to the QM?

Yep... a crappy Sunpak one from Best Buy that has one of the worst mounts of all time. It was pretty dark, so the camera was having AF problems and I was having MF problems. As a result, 90% of my pictures turned out blurry. I should've just went with a "forget about it" aperture, but oh well, maybe next time.

:lol: @ the Cadillac EXT wheel shot! Merv, not bad for your first night shoot w/ that camera. Brightness is a touch too high on all of them, but that's easily correctable. Here's some quick touch-up work I did on your first pic, which is one of my favorites:

I agree that the pictures were hard to shoot. Tons of my pictures came out blurry as well... May have been shutter-release shake or just bad focusing. Probably both.

I have not had the chance to go thrue all the pix....
The ones from Queen Mary side came out really really dark...
Somehow I messed with the settings and did not check them later and took all the shots with wrong settings.... :(

I'm shooting with a Canon EOS DR XTi/400D + EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens. I also have an EF 50mm f/1.8 II, but since we were all over that lot, and I was battling for good camera placement with the other shooters ;), the versatility of that lens was helpful.

How long were the exposures in those shots? 1 second? 10 seconds? On average, I mean... I assume it varied. I'm barely clueful about photography.

No filters, just longer exposures and a little PP to exaggerate the colors... we got lucky that night by having some clouds in the sky, which reflected the lights from the Queen Mary and the harbor. The sky wouldn't have been as vivid if it were a perfectly clear night, so we got lucky with the weather for this shoot. And you have Legacy_Otaku to thank for scouting out the locations from that night. Good times, even though I was sick (and still am a little bit).
