Anyone else a Giants fan besides me?
They were lookin alot better in that KC game last week. I know these preseason games aren't the best indicators but still. The thing I'm worried about is their ridiculously tough schedule this season. They got Washington the week after their bye week too & we all know how horrendous their record is coming off a bye. Either way I'm psyched for football season. The fall is a great time of year for sports. You got baseball playoffs coming & football. Always something good to watch.
Here's the Giants schedule
Sun 9/10 8:15 pm vs Colts
Sun 9/17 1:00 pm @ Eagles
Sun 9/24 4:15 pm @ Seahawks

And by the way, Namath was great...and the Jets have sucked since then, but a fan is a fan is a fan...not like most Giants fans I know who used to be Jets fans but jumped off the wagon cause they couldn't take 20 or 30 or 40 years of Losing!
Wait, this doesn't sound real good for us old Jets fans :icon_conf :icon_conf

ya man, that would be awesome. I went to 2 games last year. The minnesota disaster & then the playoff game shutout vs carolina :( . The worst part was I had a choice of the minnesota game or the 1st redskins game & I took the vikings tix b/c I thought it would be an easy win go get drunk game. So they shut out washington & blow it vs minnesota. If you can get tix let me know. I'm itchin to see a win

You just have to find the right girl, like I did :icon_wink
Her family has had season tickets for a looong time, and one of the stipulations for going with them was that I had to at least act like I support the Giants while I'm there. As soon as I agreed, Giants apparel started "magically" appearing for me to wear on gameday
 I had this girl after me for a while. We had hooked up a few times & she wanted to be my g/f so so badly. I'm not saying I'm a stud or anything but sometimes it works out like that. I really didnt want to get all serious with her. She tried to tempt me with season tickets. Said her dad & brother go every home game & they need someone to go with them. I did think about it for a day or so but I decided season tickets weren't worth me being with a girl I really didnt like all that much. As for giants gear, well, lets say I own more than 1 jersey  I even have a childs size "LT" shirt somewhere from when I was a kid.

My wife put her son (from 1st marriage) on the season ticket waiting list when he was born. That was 13 years ago...he has an estimated 18 years left. So when he is in his early thirties; married with a mortgage, kids and a dog. The spot will be available and hopefully he will be able to afford them.

I really think the NFL wants Peyton Manning to go to the superbowl. Those were some real ridiculous calls against the Giants last night. "crackback" on Buress & then the offensive pass interference against Carter. The PI was the real bullshit one. WTF??? Incidental minor contact was all that was.

+1. I thought I wasn't getting out of there alive last night. People went freaking nuts on all of the calls that you mentioned, particularly on the PI call against Carter, which essentially killed the Giants chances (that, and Eli's INT). I've never heard a game end with so much booing.

^^^Eli's resulting loss of composure and INT cost us the game, but nobody can argue that the blown calls last night had a HUGE impact...two calls killed two would-be (in my opinion) scoring drives.
As a side-note, I'm glad to see some sportmanship from the fans of our staduim roomate. I'm a little new to the rivalry, case in point: I was tailgating in the parking lot, and I kept on hearing cheers from these guys with a satellite dish haphazardly strapped to their truck. I asked them what was going on and they said that Tennessee was coming back. It took me all of two seconds to realize who Tennessee was playing, and that they weren't Titans fans

Seriously, it was like the Eagles shut down in the third, only for the Giants to awake (after too many sacks to mention, I can't believe Eli still wanted to walk on the field) and proceed to pwn the Birds in every conceiveable way, including dumb luck (thanks to Tim Carter).
If it was possible, I would have given each team half a win, since they both showed up for only 2 quarters, but c'est la vie. The Eagles deserved to lose after dicking around with the giants for the ENTIRE second half.

I haven't checked the lines yet, but I'm assuming the Hawks are favored since it's at home. We should have lost last year though so I GUARANTEE that NY is still pissed about it. As long as Shockey doesn't start whining mid-game and cause any trouble... this could be REEEEEAAAALLLLLY fun to watch!!! :D
My breakdown:
QB: I give you a slight nod after the Indy/Philly games compared to our last two
RB: Gotta go with Alexander just on principle
WR: Hawks again with all the options
TE: NY all the way. Our TE's don't know how to catch or what a football is...
DEF: Hmmm... Seattle been's tough so far, but that's against Det. and Ari. NY's been lit up... but against Indy and Philly.
Comment away!!!!!!!!! :p

With the RB situation, who knows what will happen. Tiki outperformed Alexander by a large margin last year, and the Giants defense looks strong against the run against this year as well.
Personally, I'm still not convinced with Eli. A good quarterback he is, but great he is not...yet. A great QB comes to the table and plays ALL four quarters, not two. Given time, he has the capacity to be as great as his brother. Stay tuned.

Ok, I'll leave the game alone as I don't need to be a sore winner and it was probably the worst effort I've seen that team put out in awhile. I DO however want to discuss this stadium thing with you all... :)
The "pumping sound" statement was probably one of the DUMBEST things to say/leak before an away game at the loudest open stadium in the NFL. Do it before you play against the team on yer own turf, not when you're going into their backyard. As for how the fans felt? It felt like NY in Seattle, honestly. Our fans are usually the hyped-up-happy people but they were just pissed pregame. :D Everyone had this little chip on their shoulder, a kind of "We're gonna F'n show them what crowd noise is." It worked. As for the staduim, you are correct coxx. Here's a snipet from Wikipedia about how the stadium was designed:
"Paul Allen (the OTHER Microsoft guy. :)) was intimately involved in the stadium design. He rejected plans for a retractable roof, and directed the architects to minimize the stadium footprint as much as possible to bring fans closer to the action. Also, he had the architects design the structure of the stadium, especially the roof, to direct as much crowd noise as possible on the field. Qwest Field has since earned a reputation as arguably the loudest stadium in the NFL. During the 2005 season, more penalties for false starts were called against visiting teams in Qwest Field than in any other NFL stadium."
Fans didn't want to lose the Kingdome intamacy or noise level so that was Allen's number one goal. Make it loud. So, hopefully this puts to rest the "pumping noise" theory. :)
LegGTLT
09-26-2006, 11:45 AM
P.S. Allen also spent several million remodeling this theater (http://www.cinerama.com/)in Seattle. It's one of only a few still around to be able to show 70mm 3 camera films and regular movie releases. It's one screen but man is it sweet. :D It also has all the latest sound technologies that really make you feel imersed in the film. Projecting sound correctly is a hobby for Allen I guess. :)

1. Manning still makes some stupid throws (sailing the ball).
2. Jacobs is a phucking mule. Had we had him and played him the last 3yrs Tiki may not even be talking retirement (Save him on some of the pounding).
3. The D is really stepping up (OMFG Dockery just ran that to the house  )
4. Losing Arrington will be big, despite how bad he's played, he showed something this game and at his worst he's better than his back-up.

anyone else sick of the whole Tiki retiring thing? I'm tired of seeing his smiling face on tv all the time. I agree with the announcers too. It's a major distraction to the team. The only thing is it might be more motivation to get him to a superbowl before he leaves.

10-26-2006, 08:41 AM
I think its a distraction too, but I hope it dies down soon. It's easy to fall off the top of this division if you're not focused. Look at Philly, McNabb had a brain fart last week and now they're out of the lead. I think its going to be a close race in the NFC East - close enough that distractions are going to make a big impact.

Giants win ugly, and lose even uglier, this is just another example that Eli is NOT the quarterback of the future for ANY team. And I thought I hated Pennington (being a jets fan) but I hate Eli twice as much just because hes only gaining any praise or recognition because hes Peyton's brother and Archie's son.
How the HELL are they even sharing a lead in the division?

I love how everyone is hating on Eli. When he lead the comeback over Philly everyone was on his dick. Now he sucks. Same way when the Giants were 1-2 everyone said they prob wouldnt go 500. Then they won 5 games in a row & everyone said they were going to the superbowl. The entire Giants team is out with injury. Eli's blindside tackle is out & is replaced with an old fat piece of crap  The entire defense is out. I'm not counting them out yet.

In my defense, Ive always hated Eli, Ive been hating Eli since his Ole Miss days. Im an old school Eli-hater.
But you do bring up good points about the defense, and they are injury plagued in general, buuuut with the hardest schedule in football its hard to keep them in contention without getting of these guys back soon. And win or lose, they still play sloppy.
direavenger
11-21-2006, 10:11 AM
I'm going to reserve over-arching judgement for Eli until the end of the season. This is a tough situation for him to play in - defense is a shambles so the O has to pick it up or forget about it. The Giants have to accept the fact that they will (most likely) be giving up a lot more points on defense, so compensation from the O is necessary.
Eli needs to clear his head this week. How he wants to accomplish it is up to him, but I'm sure that there are plenty of people who would like to do it for him. literally. with a large-caliber weapon.
G.T.Subie
11-21-2006, 12:54 PM
I live 2 blocks from Eli and hang out in the same Bars, he has to one of the most humble guys in the NFL. I think he needs more of a mean streak during the game to deal with the players like Plax & Shockey and lead the Giants.
Plax needs to put the ego away & start being a team player again. After that INT he just gave up. Theisman was right. Instead of making the tackle all he did was push the guy.

Eli is inconsistent and often times throws the ball where he has no business throwing it. He locks onto Burress and that is it. You have a weapon in Shockey that is potent. No LB can keep up with him and no CB can overpower him. It should be pitch and catch to him, but Manning seems to not want to look his way at all. Bottom line is he should be on the rise when in all reality he seems to be taking a step backwards, as seen in his last 3 games.
As far as the defense is concerned, yes they are decimated with injury, but that is no reason for Manning to not make his reads or his throws. He couldn't throw a simple swing pass. Likewise, there is absolutely no reason why guys are 10yds wide open. The corners play too soft and the LB's have proven they are dismal in pass protection. Even if Strahan and Umeniyora were in, everything from the line back is soft.
iyalla
11-22-2006, 09:55 AM
The defense is decimated. Eli Manning is no Peyton Manning. Peyton Manning does not need a defense to put him in good field position. Hell, Peyton could have his team 5 miles from the stadium and still drive them to a touch down. Do not underestimate the impact of the losses on the defense. Eli Manning is not and offenses quarterback like his brother. Not yet maybe not ever. He needs to learn to be Phil Simms and dump the ball to the tight end. He also needs that defense to get him good field position and to get the other teams defense back on the field so it doesn't have time to recover.
I still think they can do it :)

On a side note, worst experience I ever had at Giants stadium was last night. There was this 20-something year old guy sitting behind us at the game, spouting obscenities. He was obviously drunk. I politely asked him to tone down the language because there was a six-year old sitting right next to us, and the kid's dad looked too scared to say anything (I hadn't seen at a game before, maybe he didn't feel like it was his place). The guy responded by cursing even louder and getting worse. Security was just smiling and laughing at him, so that wasn't even an option. He proceeded to heckle my girlfriend and me for the rest of the game, but I wasn't going to dignify his actions with a response.
Of course, I found out later that the guy that we get our tickets from is best friends with the head of security, so I'll be ready if he comes back next week.

Do you think Eli/Giants scored too quick on the last drive? I know they needed a TD so it's not like they could just sit on the ball, but what's the opinion on that? IF you have the match-up (Plaxico one on one on the outside like that) I think you have to take it since there's no guarantee that you'd get in on 2nd or 3rd running it. I don't know, thoughts?
P.S. My Hawks got some luck of their own last night. Never seen so many odd turnovers in one game. 5 by Denver at HOME!!! One other side note, is it me or do the Hawks and Giants win and lose in opposite directions almost every week. Very odd...

Whoever called the play on 4th and a foot should be shot. Line Jacobs at FB and Tiki at TB, keep the defense guessing, bring an extra tackle in for a TE and run it up the middle. Don't take Jacobs and bounce it to the outside, let alone Ware's side.

I've been watching all this post SB coverage, it seems just so perfect that the Giants won. :D It's like they willed it to happen against all odds.
They're gonna be showing this clip on highlight reels forever!

Best thing I've ever seen
eAnd that the Patriots were defeated by a 5th seed team with one pro-bowl player this year
same thing I told all the big mouth dallas fans. Who cares if you have 13 pro-bowlers? Who cares if you beat the Giants twice during the season? Who cares that you won the division? You lost when it mattered & still haven't won a playoff game in 12 years.

Freaking awesome game! That last drive i'll remember for the rest of my life!! Eli Manning passed 'Go' and went straight to hero. Tyree was incredible, who is this guy lol and where the hell did he come from? This was slightly better than sacking Joe Montana into retirement and winning it in 91 against da Bills :D

^^^The use of Tyree as a receiver was a bit unexpected. Traditionally, he was a special teams guy, and he was pretty good at it as shown by his Pro Bowl appearance in 2005.

Seriously though, I don't think video would have mattered, nothing would prepare Brady for the onslaught he took. Brady, Montana, Elway, Farve; they all would have been running for their lives the way the Giants front four played.
Plax gave the Pats too much credit, they didn't even reach 17.

no kidding, the key to that game was the Giants defensive line overpowering the Pats offensive line. Brady seems like he was not used to that kind of pressue. did you also notice that the Giants running backs were trying in every play to fight for that last yard? reminded me of Walter Payton. Eli played very well also didn't make any stupid mistakes. well done. bosco

I bet Patriots fans were like "Who is that guy that keeps getting knocked to the ground?" They have never seen him knocked on his butt so many times in one game.
There was one play where Tuck pushed the offensive lineman down and torpedoed Brady in one move. It was scary  That front 4 deserve a name.

Yeah Bellyache left the field after the Ref's put one second on the clock. Giants went back to the sideline and so did the Patriots and all the thousands of media, fans and security that stormed the field. He was back in the locker when Eli took a knee for the final play. Classless.

No, it looked as if the game was over. He and Coughlin came out to shake hands, the field was stormed by reporters/fans/sidelines etc. After this, the refs added another second on the clock, and they had to clear the field. During this Bill went back into the locker room. It's unclear whether he knew there was more time on the clock or not. A lot of people say he knew, it's pretty unclear. Although, it is a Bill move to walk off.

In 1996 when the Yankee won. I felt bad about Don Mattingly not winning a championship because he retired in 1995.
I don't feel that way about Tiki Barber. He was quick to throw Eli and the Coach under the bus and he even was questioning Eli's leadership abilities as a NFL qb this year. I know some fans agreed with Tiki eventhough they won't admit it now.
Some leaders lead by example and know when to STFU!!
Now Eli can give Tiki the finger. His right ring finger. BLING, BLING, BEEOTCH!!

ya screw tiki. I always thoght he was wrong for saying that. My main problem with him was I thought he should've kept on playing for 2 more seasons. Then again I think him not being there might be a big reason they did so well this year.
If Tiki would've just STFU he could've been on teh sidelines, on the floats, & maybe even have gotten an honorary championship ring.
Donnie Baseball on the other hand, man, I just feel sorry for him. He was my favorite player as a kid.

Five Stages Of Grief

Figure Patriots fans will get to 5 at the end of next season.
Sucks to be them!
You just can't put that much into being a winner if your city is always #2 at best. NYers can be shallow, goal oriented, prideful bastards because esentially they are/have almost the best of everything. Sports is just the tip of the iceburg. I know this sounds like an arrogant asshole's rant, but lets just look at a few things.
Sports: Do we really need to go into it?
Culture: More Museums, Symphonies, Opera, Ballet, Broadway, Off Broadway, Indi-films etc.
Safety: NYC is now much safer than most cities.
Resteraunts: Too many to count
Naional/Historic sites: While many of them have been torn down, we still have the Statue of liberty, Grand Central/Post office, Rock Centre
The list can be added to ad infinitum.

Shockey gone, good riddance!
direavenger
07-22-2008, 01:11 PM
It was time for Shockey to go, but not this soon. Boss looks promising, but we didn't see too much of him last year. Matthews looks like he has stone hands, but we saw even less of him. I see a huge lack of experience in a critical position. In my opinion, they need to bring in someone like Kyle Brady to fill in the gaps and teach these newbs.
They didn't make a smart trade, either. They got two draft picks in 2009 for him, and now they have nothing to show for it this season. The Saints can use Shockey right away (well, for a few games until he breaks something important again).
(well, for a few games until he breaks something important again).
& that's why I say good riddance. The guy was great when he wasn't pissy about something or hurt like he always is.
I still maintain that once you got guys like shockey & tiki out of the huddle rolling their eyes at Eli & undermining him the team did way way better. That's not a coincidence.

I thought this too, but they did unload an injury ridden player with a bad attitude. He was good at times, but those times were not always when they needed him to be. On record, he only missed a few games per season, but anyone who has watched a season can tell you that he is always 'playing hurt'. I swear that his mom is announcing the game sometimes when you hear the number of excuses they give for him. Bottom line is that if you are an exceptionally talented player who hasn't performed for most of his NFL career, then there is a solid chance that you aren't really that good, and that you peaked in college.
While this trade doesn't help them this year on paper, we can see that Shockey wasn't missed last season. And the extra two draft picks can give them the opportunity to fill out their team with promising rookies, or people that can be traded for veterans later on. They are going to have big holes on defense, and they are going to need some more offensive options. Having an extra option can sometimes take the pressure off of rookies when they run their routes and make them better players. The extra year will also give the Giants the necessary time to get a good evaluation of Boss and the other new comers to see what they really need to spend those draft picks on.
^^well said, couldn't agree more
