IMO the original looks much better. I didn't really read the whole page you posted, but I'm familiar with what HDR is; just not how to "make" it in PS.

It looks like color tones were shifted in different locations to a less than realistic effect. The image is interesting to look at, but I don't consider it as an HDR image. Looking at the range of blues in the paint, it did make a larger range of exposure, but I don't think it improved the image.

A good use of HDR may be with a very bright sky and a dark foreground and dark car where the camera's dynamic range cannot sufficiently keep up with reality. In this case the camera would do one of two things: Overexpose the sky and correctly expose the car, or underexpose the car and correctly expose the sky. If this method works, it would allow you to have both correctly exposed sky and car.

Thanks for doing this. Now I'll have to read up on it and mess around with it.

i've tried this before - but only have ever had images that turned out when photographing indoors with a bright window in the background.

Cool pics. Only if that Tacoma wasn't in the background. It looks like they came out of a video game.

yeah i know the taco doesnt fit, its a pretty decent truck though (05 x-runner)

all of those shots were combined from 3 pictures using the cameras built in exposure bracketing +2 0 and -2. it seems that the images made are much mroe realistic in photoshop compared to the photomatix cartoonish look. you do get alot more effect doing it manually with the shutter speed but i was only up for a trial run. all of the auto shots i did that night either the sky was way blown out or the car was underexposed
thanks for looking

Ahh.. I think I misunderstood the second post as the original. I see now that it is a blended picture and that you fooled around with the colors in the first two. That explains a lot. I thought the HDR function was spitting out the first two pics.

Cool photos except the first, cause of the truck. Do you have large format version for desktop image use. I would really like the second and third image. I'm going to try doing some of my car. My problem is finding a good scenic backdrop thats not crowded with tourists.

I'm not getting the point of HDR for 2-d work. The general concept was originated mainly for doing light and textures for 3d, and the 3d rendering world goes to something like 64 bits per channel depth while calculating light.

amking somehting that exceeds 8-bit per channel for an 8-bit per channel display device jsut winds up with things that don't look quite right.

As a master image for messing around in the virtual darkroom, I can see it.

As a finished product, I can't It just looks messed up. And not just in your pictures. Does it look better when printed out or something?

raz-o: what I gather is that post #2 is the HDR image. The other images are the HDR image with the colors screwed with. OP, correct me if I'm wrong.
