View Full Version : PGT's ride....as it sits now
So, I made a few cosmetic changes yesterday, as well as a recent suspension change from coilovers to KYB 'Lowfers' and JDM STi pinks. I decided to scale back plans for my car since I ordered MINI # 2, so here's how the car will look for the immediate future. I'd like to add another STi lip, plus a few other minor mods (DP, headers and front Cusco swaybar, and the MSI endlinks). After all this, I'm 'done' with the LGT. :icon_twis
On to the pics:

I did red tailight film, the 2.5 STi badge, an STi grille badge (removing the JDM emblem plate), and removed the 'L7' overlay as well.
I'm digging the overall look now. It's got the SSI skidplate, all painted black. It's missing something....just doesn't look the same without the STi lip. :)

Now in Virginia do you have to put your registration stickers in the middle of your windshield? That just seems silly to me.
Glad to see the tail light red-outs made it on to your car!
(good call on removing the L7 badge too!)

Looks sweet. Love the rims. You just need to get that STi lip on there. You should also tint the third brake light to match the reverse lights.

I dried it right after. I like the look of a wet car for some reason.
New Mini is on order....last batch before they cease production. Should be in around late July.
To remove the L7 overlays....heat and pull. Get the goop off with Goo-B-Gone. ;)

I know the STi lip is poly, but how thick is it? Is it thin and very flexible or somewhat rigid?
BTW, nice ride, PGT. Almost as nice as mine!

Wow.....let me know where you can get a 06 Mini @ that price & I'll buy you one also;)
 umm....not quite like that man ;) If I continue to dump money in this car, I won't be able to buy the second Mini nor mod it. A modded LGT will never handle as well as a stock Mini, so I've scaled back plans for the LGT and with the exception of a few more things, don't plan to do more work. It's already supremely capable and the next step is a slippery slope.
PGT folds at Stage II.

A stock Mini isn't a super handler either. Nice steering, nice LSD.. but in the end, its still FWD.
I have intentions to mod my GTi... rear sway, Koni shocks, H&R Springs.. or H&R coilovers... however, my loyalty sticks with the LGT. One stab of the pedal on the LGT is all it take to confirm that for me. I plan to stick it out on the LGT to a turbo swap. My position was solidified when I went through a mountain run with a bunch of people.. S2ks, M3, SC'd Mustang, 350z... I ended up in the fast pack being able to keep pace with the big boys (sticky rubbered S2ks, M3, and SC'd Buttstang)
BTW, if you are planning on headers... I know that you don't particularly like this company... but my Perrin header DEFINETLY makes power.

KYB 'Lowfers' and JDM STi pinks.
GR2s or stock?
A stock Mini isn't a super handler either.
hmm.....nope, you're wrong. Let me just say.....the handling on a stock Mini is more fun than a modded LGT. Better?
Ohh....and FWD? FWD + LSD and a bit of oversteer = capable car. ;)

I suppose you plan to get rid of the run-flats? Maybe that's my issue with that car... those tires SUCK.
However, FWD + oversteer IS indeed nice. For me power is important however.

looking good Dan.
oh yeah....sorry....that was a given. I'm moving the 17's with F1's over to the new car.
WCBR - KYB makes a suspension in Japan called 'Lowfer'...stupid JDM name. It's meant to lower wagons and car-utes. The car rides about like it did with the JDM Spec B suspension on it, only a bit lower now.

I think the handling LGT vs Mini depends on what driving situation. I had the opportunity to race a couple of micis on a track at Toronto for a press release. Very fun car.
On a slow speed course the mini FTW!
On a high speed course I would take a modded LGT.

sedan available? can they handle s-techs?
the whole 'Lowfer' line is meant for wagons, but that's just a marketing thing. I see no reason they wouldn't work for the LGT. Should work fine with those springs.
These aren't available in the US though. ;)

You seriously think they are as good as the Bilsteins?
I think you would be hard pressed to get dampers that are as good as keeping a firm yet compliant ride as the Bilsteins.
I think maybe you think that because you never had different springs on the Bilsteins!
How much?
Still doesn't make sense why you sold the Bilsteins, but I won't complain.:icon_wink

Why did you sell the CUSCOs?:iam:
I didn't like the ride quality after a 2k mile road trip on full soft and was tired of messing with them. And, I sold them, bought the current setup, and had alot of money left over towards the new car. ;) Same handling, better ride, half the cost? Get it now?

^ I said the same, too - until just recently. I guess my tastes must have changed somewhat over the years. :)
I'm with brother PGT on this one - it adds a bit more aggressiveness to the character up-front...or at least so I think. :D
It's really just a personal-preference thing, much as anything else when it comes to aesthetics.
For me, it also had the added benefit of helping to better conceal my aftermarket CCFL DDE rings. ;) And what's more, it in no way impedes vision.

PGT are you going to get the M7 supercharger kit. I met the guy who owns M7 and he was pretty cool. He said he was at the Dragon meet a while back.
Peter Horvath. Yeah...good guy. My wife and I met him at the Dragon meet and chatted for a bit. He's going to be selling the kit, but he's not the one making it. I hooked up with the shop that's doing the R&D and am getting a prototype setup...this all happened before M7 got involved. ;)
