I purchased an 05 RBP with a taupe interior yesterday. I thought it was wierd because the shifter boot was black leather. Granted, the black leather matches the shift knob, but I thought it was strange that it wasn't taupe.

After thinking about it, (and considering the fact that someone installed STI pedals), I'm thinking it was possible that the same person had installed an aftermarket shift knob/boot, and decided to take it off when they traded in the vehicle. Why they didn't replace them with the stock bits, I'll never know.

Sooo... are the boot and shift knob supposed to be taupe and match the interior leather? If so, does anyone have stocks they are willing to part with :)

It is black, see:

You know how fast a taupe shift knob would get dirty?

Faster than you can say Snufalufagus!

Actaully I know quite well, my Miata has a tan shift boot. The purple Armor-all baby wipe cleaners work really really well to get muck and dirt off.

Hmmm, thats just wierd, I can't believe they would put those two fabrics together like that. 0_o

Thanks for the quick response though. I feel better that its not just my car.

as laz said it is black, but it does tie in the other parts of hte dash which are black too so it doesn't bother me...and I am usually anal about that stuff.

Yes, black is the factory OEM for the shift boot.

I chose to retain that color combo with my RedLineGoods boot, and also match it with black for the e-brake boot (also RedLineGoods). Personally, I thought that the black/taupe combination was rather classy and lended somewhat of a sporty flare to the "wood"-dressed interior. ;)

Coming from a car with a WHITE (you read that right) custom leather boot on the shifter, yes, it'll get dirty rather quickly.....
