Well I've started a couple of strings now - I guess I should introduce myself. I picked up a SWP GT Limited Wagon last week. I've previously owned 97 and 2000 LegacyGT wagons and a WRX wagon. Now I have the best of both the WRX and Legacy...

My plans for this car is stay pretty stock with the exception of tires and stereo. I've already swapped out the RE92s for Conti Extreme Contacts. I'm also in the process of sorting out full on winter tires (Nokian Hakka 2s) and having some issues with used tires of different tread depth. I've hard wired a Valentine 1 and have some new speakers being delivered tomorrow, which I'll install with an amp and sub-woofer from a previous car.

The car will be a true mountain commuter. I do a lot of mountain biking often requiring many miles of logging roads. The ground clearance really helps. I also ski 70 - 80 days a year, which will really exercise the AWD.

So far so good. I've got just over 1200 miles and the engine is getting smoother and smoother. No problems to date.

I'm finding this forum very helpful and appreciate the knowledge of its members.

Thanks!

Congrats on the new ride.

What are your impressions on the contis in the wet? From what I hear about WA, you should have plenty of experience.

How are you planning on doing the sub install? I've been kicking around some ideas for my wife's outback and I'm always looking for something new.

Helfrick - I have an 8" subwoofer in a small enclure. Keeps it portable, does not intrude too bad in the cargo area, while satisfying my bass need. I'm planning to install a 4 channel amp using the rear channels bridged for power.

The Contis work very well in the wet, and yes there's lots of opportunity to test their ability up here. I feel they are an extremely versatile tire living up to their "ultra high performace" all season classification. They're also realtively cheap which helps their cause.

Thanks for the welcome.

I bet that will sound nice. I was thinking about mounting an 8" in the small cubby in the passenger side of the hatch. It looks like it would work ok. I want pics of your setup when you're done (if you don't mind).

Thanks, that is good to know. I hadn't heard much discussion of the conti's before. We get a bit of rain down here as well so the wet traction is pretty important to me.

Welcome to the club Cascade! Did you have any luck with the speaker install?

bossies1 -

Thanks. Yes, speakers are in. Overall it was pretty easy. Have not yet installed power amp though. I guess I'm working up to it...I have the factory sub and wanted to try using it in combination with the new speakers. The sub gives some low end support but is pretty muddy.
