View Full Version : Speaker Gods Help!
so....
after my 4th time visiting bestbuy in 2 weeks after they installed my JL 6.5vr's they just gave me a refund for their POS install. they cant figure out why my rear driver side door is rattling so bad yet all the other doors are fine. tweeter quoted me 45$ an hour to trouble shoot the sound. it sounds fine with the door panel off, but not with it on.
anyone willing to figure out/fix my rear driver side door? there is no dynamat on them (the others sound fine) but i dont think that will solve the problem, only help it. i live in NH and will be at the WBM. TIA. im so dissapointed right now since all the sound is going to the fronts soon to be powered by a cleansweep
Dynamat the crap out of that panel.
Dynamat (or Scosche Accumat FTW) has worked wonders on all my installs, and friends' installs.
Just be patient and get in the back seat with the stereo cranked and listen closely for the source of the vibration. Then attack.
Those Tweeter guys will do the same thing, for $45 an hour.
at age 16 I was using bathroom towels and wadded-up face cloths jammed in behind my Jeep's interior panels to stop vibrations... my mom always wondered where all her good towels made off to...

Is the speaker hitting the door grille?
Did they make any spacers for the speakers?

they made spaces for the speakers and yes t is hitting the door grill. i think they are too big for the car.. but its a little late for that.
im gonna wait to see what it sounds like amped with cs, cut the bass out of the speakers and send that to the subs. the rattling is defiently the worst when the bass is kicking, so maybe that alone will fix the problem.. or at least make it bareable. just kills me i spent all this money and it sounds awful right now

If the speaker surrounds are hitting the door grilles, STOP playing the system, fade it to the front or disconnect the rears until you get this resolved. You will damage the speakers if you let this continue.
They may have made the spacers too thick and they probably did not put a foam gasket between the door panel and the spacers.

thanks. will take a look at this. guess ill just sand down the spacers?

sorry.. the speaker "surrounds" arent not hitting the door grilles, but the center piece that is sticking out from the speaker is.
What I would have them do is swap the right rear with the left rear and see if it still happens on the right side. You could also have them swap out the spacers too.
Could the problem be in the speaker it self?
I am not familiar with your speakers and if you were having problems with excursion it would probably be at the surround area and not in the tweeter portion of the speaker.
I am curious to see what the problems is.
keep us updated.
I've been IM'ing with him for 20 minutes now. This one's a stumper. Wish I was closer so I could help out in person. :(
The sound goes away with the panel off and sounds like 'metal on glass'. :iam: Might be something with how the panel fits around the door pull....sound is localized there. It's possible the panel was damaged by the installer.

after talking to patagonian, i thought more about the sound. its bothering me so much i could actually her it in my head. it sounds like metal snaps, like the ones your pants used to ahve back in the day, or when u tear off your wind pants or rain coats when they used to be metal snaps, not plastic.i understand its really bizarre, but ill take the door off and try some of the stuff that pata recommended.:iam:
