Dear Subaru legacy manufacturers,

I bought a Subaru legacy, imported from Japan, a 2004 model Legacy B4. My friend who owns a Subaru Forrester told me that I need to change one of the computer chip in my Legacy as the grade of premium petrol in Japan is different from Malaysia, where I live. Is this true? If it is true, how can I have the chip changed and what is the estimated cost?

Thanks.

Not sure if you got an answer yet, but if you go to the subaru dealership they should be able to reflash your ECU for your car so that it's in compliance with what standards your country has. Hope it helps

Don't take this as gospel, but AFAIK the ECU will adjust the timing to compensate the difference in fuel. Although I don't know what grade you have in Malaysia, but I took my specB from Japan (100Ron) and it runs fine on 98 in Sydney.
