I am getting an intermittent buzz from the dash board at high speeds or when large vehicles pass me going the opposite direction. It is pretty loud and sounds like a diaphram vibrating. I think it is due to an air pressure difference between the inside and outside of the car, probably somewhere in the air vent system. Opening or closing windows or sunroof does not change it, nor does changing the settings on the AC/Heater. Any ideas? I hate dealing with "intermittent" problems with mechanics.

I had a similar problem which drove me nuts. Because it was intermittent, it was hard to find, but it sounded like it was coming from behind the panel below the dash. It turns out it was actually the cruise control stalk vibrating, in particular the on/off button on the end of the stalk! You won't believe that's what it is, but next time it happens put some light pressure on the stalk to see if it goes away.
Anyone else still has this problem? I have a GT ltd sedan of about 2 weeks old, and it's developed a intermittent vibration at higher speeds over rough pavement. It comes and goes. Sounds like something is just slightly loose and resonating against another plastic part. Sounds like it's coming from under the dash, and I've checked the cruise control stalk, that's not it. :(
It's kind of annoying on a new car. Is this normal in a new subaru? This is my first subaru so I wouldn't know.
Thanks.

Try pressing on the skinny (silver or wood) trim pieces on either side of the center console. Mine were making a lot of noise. I was able to remove them, line all the mating surfaces with nylon tape, and reinstall to get rid of the noise.

it's the dashboard hitting the bottom of the windshield, if you put your hand and wedge it between the bottom of the windshield where it meets up the dash hard enough, the buzz is gone.. I slipped in some rubber spacers under the dash.. I hope they dont slip away in fall behind the dash :/

Craig,
Could you explain how you opened the trim? Did you have to take apart the center console? I took it to a dealer and they said the trims are snapped into place by clips, but to remove them, they'll have to take apart the center console, including the center armrest piece. Is this true? Or is there an easier way to remove them? It doesn't seem like it should be that much work to open them?
Thanks!

If you have an auto trans, start by removing the chrome ring around the shift bezel (pull up). Then hook something in the resulting gap, at the rear, and pull up to loosen the gray console piece around the shifter. Work it up, and then unplug the harness for the ashtray. There will be a screw on each side trim piece down where the shifter console piece was. Take those out, and then you can pull the side trim pieces up/back and out.
With Manual trans, I *think* you need to pull off the rear section of the center console (cupholders/armrest/bin) in order to work forward. There are two bolts in the bottom of the armrest bin to get that started. You'll also need to pull the boot for the brake up and out.
