View Full Version : Who needs installs done?
whitetiger

For those who dont know, I used to be a mechanic who worked at a subaru dealership. If any fellow lgt'ers in and around bergen county, NJ need stuff installed, Id be happy to help out for less then any shop could offer. I have all my tools/air tools at home and can do most stuff in the driveway. I do bolt-ons and basic interior work, no fabrication. Stuff like exhaust, coilovers, swaybars and tower bars, brakes, radio removal, ect... that can be done duing the day. So if you are interested, let me know and ill tell you what i can do for you and what i cant. :)
edit: I prefer not to do full audio system installs. they take along time and i have to rip every panel out the car to run all the wires the right way. You are better off going to a shop for this. I will do single component installs though.
Im gonna try to do two people a day depending on the type of mods im doing. Pm me with any questions or to schedual apointments and ask for pricing.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Special services I can do for you.
Suspension stuff!!
For people who want somthing different than Used spec B/JDM bilstein struts, Crucial/Tirerack.com is selling Koni struts for out cars. The fronts are just inserts that require modifying the the stock front struts to put them in. I am capable of doing this service. If anyone is interested, PM me. IMO the koni struts are alot better than the biltseins since they are designed for use with aftermarket springs. Technically the bilsteins are not designed for that purpose.
I can also do LCA bushings for people. I have an extra set of LCAs which i will swap out with the ones in your car. All you have to do is give me the bushings iin advance of the install day so i can press them in and have them ready.

I will def keep you in mind - looking to get an UP/DP installed in the next few months and wasn't sure about tackling it myself.
Other possible mods include: SS lines, springs..????

will def keep you in mind my man. there are some things I can do & alot more I'm reluctant to do myself. I'm real close to bergen too

Did you take a job at another dealership, other type of job, or are you just taking a break for a bit?

I took a job in another field. Mechanics pay was not that great. I found a better job where i get more than twice what i got as a mechanic. But cars are still my passion.

Whitetiger,
Do you have the capability to replace the front lower rear control arm bushings? I'm told they require a hydraulic press to get them out/in... also an alignment afterwards. Anything else I would need to replace them, besides the bushings themselves?
G.T.Subie

I got a wedding in April so don't have much time right now to meet up this month. My father in-law works for Anhieser Busch so I got the BEER for free. I would like to meet up sometime though Im thinking of SWAYS and clearing headlights. I live in Hoboken so this would be great for me.
whitetiger
03-21-2006, 11:27 AM
Yes, you need a press, which i dont have, for the bushings in the control arm. Swaybars are no problem. Clearing headlights im a bit weary of since i dont have a heat gun, so id have to put them in the oven. Never done that before but if you trust me to do those, i will. as for 5 hours of labor i say bah. I bet i could get it done quicker. trust me, dealers always over estimate that stuff. your average dealer rate is 87-92 dollars an hour. So they are charging over $430 to install those gauges. Ill do it for less than a quater of that.

I'm definitely gonna need brake lines and pads.
but which ones for the red beast
nothing wild as far as the pads. i don't autocross the bitch.
front and rear
hawk hps? front hb432f... rear hb434f
http://www.hawkperformance.com/parts/search.php?year=2005&make=SUBARU&model=OUTBACK&show_street=yes&Submit=Find+Parts+%3E%3E
brake line best fitment? (no zip ties)
goodrich?
tecnafit?
cobb?
i would still like to use the standard fliud in case i decide to give the car up after the lease. this way i won't have to bleed them and replace the fluid.
whitetiger
06-01-2006, 02:35 PM
well, If you want me to do them, pm me and secure the last date i have open.

what would you recommend?
whitetiger
06-01-2006, 02:48 PM
Im not that familiar with brack pad compound but as far as lines go, i like the way the goodridge lines fit the best. I have the goodridge lines and Cobb pads on my car.

red beast
06-01-2006, 03:07 PM
i found a thread for the hawk pads.
seems people are waiting for the rears to come out
i have 20,000 miles on my rotors. will the surface have to be "scuffed" for better embedment?
http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23760&page=3
and i read posts in the past that some opinions stated that for street use you really don't need the mutol brake fliud because you don't reach the same temps as for autocross?
whitetiger
06-01-2006, 03:15 PM
I would have the rotors resurfaced for the the best break in. Too bad i dont have a brake laithe or id do it for you. I agree that you dont need the super fluid if you arent racing.

don't know still awaiting info.
on dry pavement you can press hard on the brakes and it doesn't hit the abs. it just comes to a slow halt with the pedal mushing down.
in wet the abs comes on quick.
thanks again, whitetiger. he completed an sti UP, cobb DP and suspension swap in 4 hours. he also has a nifty trick to do the UP install without lifting the engine. the power is absolutely infectious and i've reached my power goals (faster than my stock STI). he's a great guy. hopefully he'll have more install availability in the future!
