The upper pic shows the Euro-style bumper as many have come to call it. Personall I think it looks great.
The lower pic noting the exhaust I believe is the STi Genome. It's a bigger exhaust, some might even call it ricy looking it is similar to that style in a way. I prefer the stock or something looking closer to stock that is a bit more subtle. I think the actual car in the pic is the 2.0GT Specialized model or whatever it was called. The supposed customize edition if you will. I was never a fan of it's 3-big spole wheels though either.
Dr. Zevil
02-07-2004, 04:22 PM
I believe the STi genome exhaust is dual tip making the red wagon above having some mystery cans.
PPower
02-07-2004, 04:31 PM
No, the "STi" exhaust is the dual tip. The STi Genome is the one like the above with two huge cans. It was on the Legacy Asterope car at the Tokyo Auto Salon. I believe that EJ20H-TT has put up pictures of it.

I think that the chrome you saw was just a reflection of light. However, I don't yet understand if the body colored low profile rails are extra since some 3.0R and some GT have both painted and black matte. The painted rails are definitely awesome but they may get scratched up more for somebody who uses them often.

An option for functional or non-functional rails would be nice.
PPower
02-07-2004, 09:08 PM
What are nonfunctional rails? They all look fully functional to me. Do you mean rails or no rails? It's not like Subaru to offer many options, so I'd never count on it as much as I would like it as well. Heck, I'd be fine with black low profile rails, though I understand the need for the USDM OB rails being so that things can be lashed down.

Images of the wagon on Subdriven (can't attach them for some reason)show what I mean about the roof rails on the JDM/Euro Legacy wagons (or lack thereof).
See the hump atop which the roof rails sit? I think that what the JDM cars must get is a rail delete option, so that all you get is the body-colored hump for the rail, as opposed to the actual rail.
Notice how, without the rail atop it, how the hump has a lovely slope that follows the roofline. I think that what we're seeing, when we are reacting to the lack of body-colored roof rails for the USDM model, is in fact no rails at all.
It also looks as if rail removal should be simple enough for those that don't want 'em. I'm not sure how they're attached, however.
Or am I crazy?
Kevin
PPower
02-08-2004, 01:58 PM
 I think you're just a little bit crazy. ;)
The non-USDM Legacy wagon looks like it has a completely different roof. Theirs get what they've called "low profile rails", and you can distinctly tell in the above picture of the red wagon with a rack on it that the bars are attached to those miniature rails that are hardly raised. They don't have a rail delete as far as I can tell.
The non-USDM Outback roof has the humps that the rails are mounted onto like the US OB and Legacy. Because of the hump, I'm thinking that a rail delete just wouldn't look right.

I found this little article next to the pic.
Subaru is set to surprise performance fans with the Geneva unveiling of a Spec B version of the highly-acclaimed new Legacy 3.0R saloon. Displayed purely as a prototype, the All-Wheel Drive teaser will be uncovered on Tuesday, 2 March at 2.45 pm at the 74th Geneva International Motor Show. Since launch late last year, the new Legacy has been voted 'Car of the Year Japan 2003-4', winning widespread praise for its involving chassis, interior ambience and big improvements in refinement, fuel efficiency and emissions. Now, the range-topping 3.0R - with its new 245 PS six-cylinder 'boxer' engine - has received a raft of driver-focused enhancements sure to whet enthusiasts' appetites.
For example, the display car will have the same six-speed manual gearbox as the Impreza STi. :o The current Legacy 3.0R is available as an automatic only.
In addition, the Legacy Spec B features front and rear Bilstein suspension with rally car-like inverted struts for tauter high-speed control.
Also aimed at enthusiasts is a torque-sensing rear limited-slip differential. This gives sharper cornering turn-in and more throttle-adjustable handling. Finally, the show car has larger 18 ins diameter wheels with 215/45 R 18 tyres.

Did anyone else notice the taillight treatment? I like it. It makes it look less Plymouth Voyagerish. I can do without the midgate spoiler and big exhaust, but I do like the top spoiler/mud deflector.
Dr. Zevil
02-19-2004, 01:06 PM
This will be the sort of rear treatment that I will look for when I get my wagon. i think it looks awesome.. not the mellon launchers though, not a big fan but it's not horrible. I love the second "wing" along the same line as the top of the tailights. Looks awesome!

02-19-2004, 01:11 PM

SUBE555
02-19-2004, 01:43 PM
Well first you're going to want to get your hands on one of these new vehicles. Next...
There are a few places that may deal with these parts, I think JapanParts.com may as well as other vendors. Right now it's not feasible for them to stock these parts considering there is no buyers for these parts yet. I suspect they will be made available through at least a few vendors, though I don't have a clue on price.

Those are some damn sexy wagons. I still toss around the idea of getting the sedan sometimes, but then I see pictures of those GT wagons and know that I will be happy with whatever I choose. The GT is such an awesome looking car. I will agree that with the extended USDM bumpers that the GT starts to look like and Altima. If you don't agree then go to www.need-desire.com and check out the GT specifications page. There is a pic of the sedan there that looks like an altima. I don't mind.. It's just amazing what a few changes in body dimensions can do to the styling of a car. I still love it but it definitely has changed...

Lordy, those body-kitted wagons are universally hideous. The difficulty of making aftermarket body kits is hindered by the fact that most people who go aftermarket, usually want people who are looking at it to KNOW that it's aftermarket. Which explains why they all look so add-on, rather than smoothly integrated, as do corporate body add-ons.
The sedan looks more generic than the wagon. I'm sure that sedan folks can comfort themselves by knowing that they aren't driving wagons, however.
But the Legacy GT will be the sexiest-looking wagon on the road, higher-profile roof rails or no. A black GT Limited wagon is going to be on the level of porno for many people who look at it.

I believe the dual-exhaust serves two functions, one for the look as everyelse has/is going to, and second is you can make it a little quieter. :)

Honestly I am trying to convince myself more than anyone that I should get a wagon. Never in a million years did I think that I would buy a wagon. I don't have any kids but yet I know that I should get a wagon simply for the utility purposes. Trips to home depot and camping will be so much nicer in the wagon. Don't forget that it will be one of the biggest sleepers in the market. Especially after I debadge it :D
The wagon does look nice though hey? Very sleek!

I'll help you. The wagon is a) better, and less generic-looking; b) should have better weight distribution (albeit slightly); c) will have more utility, whether you need it or not; d) has the whopper sunroof; e) will, as with the WRX, have almost identical performance; f) will not, as with the WRX, have the suspension differences (track width) from sedan to wagon; g) I would guess the wagon will have a slightly better CD, though the rails might mess that up; h) the seats fold down.
There...you feel better now?
Kevin
Dr. Zevil
03-04-2004, 01:36 PM
Kevin, you have been the one to really convince me. There are so many reasons to get the wagon. The sunroof is a huge one for me. I know it's not good for (COG) performance, but I have never owned a car with a sunroof. I am really looking forward to it. To tell you the truth the more I look at the wagon the less I like the sedan. It's wierd, I would have never considered the wagon and now I don't think I will even consider the sedan. The wagon has everything that I could ever ask for.
I really wonder what the ratio of wagon to sedan sales are like in different countries around the world? I wonder if Japan sells more wagons than sedans? Seems like it to me.
The thought of going on a road trip to Colorado to see my friends and be able to sleep in the back of my wagon halfway there is awesome! That's the only reason that I would really like navigation is becaus I could travel the country to see my friends that have moved away and not ever have to worry about dealing with a map or anything. I also can put my bikes in the back, dog in back, yard supplies in back.. and I can also pull up next to just about anything and absolutely DUST them. Such a kickass car! Now if we could just get some real world results from this iteration of the 2.5T I would really be happy!

I really wonder what the ratio of wagon to sedan sales are like in different countries around the world? I wonder if Japan sells more wagons than sedans? Seems like it to me.
I think that about the only place wagons don't sell better than sedans is in the USDM. There are all of those paternal, "station wagon" issues that people have with wagons, that don't exist in other countries.
For example, you'd be hard-pressed to find a wagon to rent from a U.S. company. But going to France, you can, from Sixt (favorite company) rent a Focus wagon, Mondeo wagon, Peugeot 406 wagon, 307 wagon, etc, etc.
Even on this board, or on NASIOC, you see people saying things like "I just can't be seen driving a wagon." Why not, is always my question.
Frankly, the way this country thinks about wagons is silly. Given the same car, same motor and everything, why would you ever opt for less space and utility? BMW is bringing out a 5-series wagon that looks the bee's knees. And that Jaguar X-Class wagon is another killer, that isn't coming here.
I used to feel weird about wagons, but was forced into one by my cycling pursuits. After experiencing the magic, I'll never go back. Friends don't let friends drive sedans, I always say.

yeah, for sure. Being from New Zealand (and living in California currently) I can attest to the fact that the wagon is waaay more popular than the sedan there. I was quite suprised at the amount of stigma attached to wagons over here (in the US).

What are you talking about? I suppose there is a SLIGHT difference in the color from what you can see, but chances are thats the picture or surrounding light.
Its an auto show of some sort. You aren't going to put a car with mismatching colors like that out for display unless it is intended. I can't see many people making white / off white mixed pieces.

It's made by, or for, Prova.
And it does match the color of the car, it's just that there was a yellowish light shining on the fender behind it, making it look "off".

So you're saying that the two non-factory body panels on that car- the hood and bumper- just happen to not match the rest of the car because of the way the light is shining? And the light just happens to be positioned so that the egdes of where it shines line up exactly with the body panel seams? Sorry, I don't buy it. If it looks that bad in a photo, it must look horrible in real life.
They should have blended the fender on that car (as well as design a body kit that isn't so heinous).
