Just bought "Car of the year edition" for tonight's in flight reading. Wasn't aware about the Tuned by Sti write up till your post and having a quick flip now.
Pretty good impression. In their view, more hardcore and better dynamically then the porky MPS, with rarity value to boot. Accord Euro and other Jap cars are not in view and the competing Europe performance cars are mostly >$100,000 . Only caveat it's the how the arrival of the 2.5 GT in late 2006 will affect its status.
Yummy pictures too. Must have for Darren & Co , besides there are quite a few interesting articles in this edition too.

Nice Jasper well done.
InFlight reading, you are starting to sound like me... can only read that Qantas Mag so many times in a month.
I think the rarity will overshadow the 2.5 latecomer.

thanks jaspert...will try and get it at lunch...unless i am picking up the car!

More detail look.
O-100km/h 6.2 for 5 sp manual doesn't sound right.
Not as adjustable as the softer sprung car and exhaust is a bit quiet for their liking.
I think i will stop now and leave the rest for your lunch time browse.

Hopefully you get to pick up your new ride today Glen! The wait must be killing you! I only had to wait a week, and even that, it felt like ages...
Will definitely pick up a copy of Wheels at lunch time now!

Subaru’s Liberty GT is a seriously good thing. In terms of value for money, grunt and driver involvement, this STi-tuned version monsters even its primo European and Japanese competition.»

Adam et al, did the run to 7/11 and after a quick read I'm pretty happy with the write up. I think the gripes are reasonable (I'll leave you guys to read it first) and when they say things like "You'd be pushing six-figures to find a Teutonic Rival - such as Audi's $131k S4 - capable of sniffing Liberty's tailpipes..." then I'm feeling pretty smug.
They're right about the 2.5GT being a threat but what the hell, they'll always build a better one later on!!!
i agree darren...just finished reading it, and it makes me feel all nice inside!

Yeah I think its the case of buy a computer now or wait for something better, something always comes out better BUT even the 2.5 wont have all the STi gear on it.....
Ada///M.
PS Curious what the pricing of the 2.5 is going to be like in comparision to the 2.0 ?

Adam,
I'd be sure the 2.5GT will be similarly priced to the 2.0GT. Look at WRX pricing as your best predictor (actually, didn't they get cheaper???).
From a manufacturing point of view not much changes, still one engine, 4 pistons, one turbo etc.
I think your computer analogy is spot on though...

Yes Im sure u are right Darren re the pricing esp with the WRX. I think it will certainly hold off the competitors for sure and its nice to know that even mags like Wheels are saying that the rarity of the STi will see its value hold instead of sliding. Nice to be up there with the likes of the S4 and alike, not a bad crowd to be in to be honest. But Im 100% sure that the AUDI boys are scoffing at that comment.

Don't take this personally Adam, but I'm quite happy for the posers who like a German badge to be wearing depreciation at 2-3x what I'm facing with a GT STi. Sure an M3 or S4 would be better (for the record I think they both would be) but try $20-25k per year in lost value vs. $7-$10k. That smug Euro smile costs an awful lot....
Depreciation on Euro stuff is just so bad here that it is truly only for the badge lovers...

I agree Darren, the dollar on the ///M and the S4 seriously gets damaged as the years roll on but at some stage they do tend to stop. BUT in saying that, if I was to hook up an E90 ///M, I would buy one with a few K's on it and not get hit with the massive new car price. Yes it may not be brand new but those units are very hard to kill right off the bat.
But getting back on topic, I think that to get a mention in with those guys (///M & S4) the STi must be really impressing some ppl and that cant be bad for resale.

l dont usually have much respect for the opinions of the dribble twins (Wheels/Motor) but thought the write up in this months Wheels on the Gt Sti was pretty much spot on. Great photography and quite an indepth spread on such a limited release. Yes the steering is a little vauge and too light, yep it does look horn, the interior is schmick and the grunt great if a little laggy low in the revs as you would expect. Not much to compare it to if you value quality in your cars that is this side of an S4 so agree with that too :icon_bigg
l dont 'fear' the GT replacement coming late this year. It will pickup 50kg and possibly some of the RB's gear as it should have now anyhow. If so the price will rise and it still wont look as good as our cars and certainly wont perform any better nor have the same level of handling. If the GT Sti had not appeared there is no way l would have bought a GT and l dont think l could have settled for an MPS either so for me, the release of this car was very timely.
l pity the poor buggers who read the review and get excited by it, decide they want one and find that at the time of printing the mag they are virtually all gone.

Nice write up Simon I have to say.
Yeah I hear what you are saying in yr last paragragh, hence I got involved with this and other sites in the first place. I didnt want to be left behind again. A few years ago, Subaru Australia released a special STi WRX, limited run, only sold them in Melbourne and looked fantastic. Cant remember the actual model but pretty sure they only were released in white. Im glad the boat wasnt missed this time.

The photography was well above their usual standards, in fact the whole spead on the car was quite elaborate for a car that is limited in numbers. It was a good write up, good to see so much mag space going to something other than a Falcon/Commodore.
