Thought l would start a thread where we could all post our experiences with getting the best insurance deal for our cars.
My current ride is an MY03 WRX Sti which is insured at agreed value and with business use through AAMI for $522 py. l am 36 and elected to takle the $2k excess. For a "standard" excess of $450 it doubles to $1048 py.
In comparison the Liberty Sti with AAMI for $60k value, business use and a $2k excess comes in at only $478. So if your looking for insurance try AAMI, took them a while to find the car in their system but its there. Just tell them too look under MY06 2006, not 2005.
Cheers Simon

the price you pay for being a city slicker Adam
Nice you get a free windscreen! Try AAMI, l am sure it will be much cheaper especially if you can live with a higher excess.
It certainly is worthwhile to ring around get other quotes.
I'm on a finance lease with my GT MY06 (not sti) and the lease company's insurance place had me on a $2k excess but because they then classified the GT as a high perf vehicle the excess was going to actually be set to $4k unless I had installed a recommended car theft tracking system which would cost me about $2k plus an annual fee of around $300... (they said the GT was classed as a highly valued target car for thiefs).
So I rang around and ended up going with RACQ, but I found NRMA and Suncorp were also quite competitive with RACQ. I can't recall the numbers but do know the excess is now under $1k and I don't have to worry about installing a theft device.
Cheers,
gwl

Wouldn't bother with Shannons Adam. l recently insured a classic with them and while l was at it they quoted on my Sti and the wifes Territory. Both were double what we are paying. Shannons are only good for older cars in my experience.

Suncorp have had my B4 for the past 2 years and I am guessing they will have the GT STi as well - worth checking out...

Hmmm Shannons, I thought they would have been WAY more competitive than that and chasing business. I know U said that U would no doubt swap back to Suncorp ASAP Darren. And thanks for the info again Mo.
Looks like Im staying where I am FTM with RACV/NRMA.

32 yo inner city rating 1
aami - 1280 premium with 500 excess...no one under 25 to drive the car (as if!)
could have got it down to 960 with a 1550 excess, but was happy with above...

Weird experience today when l called AAMI to transfer cover from my WRX to the Liberty.
Apparently last week when l called they changed the cover over and had started coverage on the Liberty  Yep, the one l had yet to buy as l was still in my WRX. Things got even more confusing, today they couldn't find the GT Sti in the computer but found it in the Glasses guide and so could insure it. The end result was an increase in my premium of about $40py to $560 py. Still cheap considering the car.
Seems the insurance companies, Glasses guide etc are offically calling the car a GT Sti, the tuned bit has been lost which is fine by me. Its a dumb overly long name!
