Hi all,
l was after others thoughts and experiences on the alarm system offered by Subaru for the Liberty. I understand its a genuine alarm thats designed to seamlessly integrate with the cars ECU and immobiliser.
Retails for a little over $600 but l would hope to get in the deal on a Sti Lib. It is a keypadless design thankfully.
Worth it do you think?
Cheers Simon

Simon,
I'm still tossing up whether to get it or not. Insurance companies seem to have the view that it's just another $695 if the car is written off and there is no change in premium?
Cheers,

Well I got the alarm for my MY06 GT
Insurance drops in price becasue more secure for the theft department lol and it's data dot.. Seems to work and does it's job.
Only prob with arftermarket one... is it will avoid your warrenty, so if your car starts to trip out after the installation of the alarm, your on your own..
Just my little thought and tip for ya :)

Subaru certainly push the "only the SA/Brant" alarm will work thanks to the LAN wiring in the car line pretty hard...
I'm just thinking of saving the $700 given there's no insurance rebate and no PIN code protection?

Yeah l can imagine they would push the whole integration/warranty thing pretty hard. If l can get it thrown into the deal l will take it but if they want extra l will give it a miss.
No keypad is a bonus, the Brant l have now drives me nuts :icon_frow

Hey Simon,
What are you driving at the moment? I had the brant in the B4 and man what a piece of worthless cr*p it was...
Lost count of the number of times I wished Docklands could pull the p.o.s out...

i've decided to skip the oem alarm in place of an aftermarket one that auto ups the windows when armed and the key fob alerts me remotely if the alarm goes off. two features i wanted.
i've also got the option for a remote auto start but the fact that it would void any insurance claim is scarring me off.
i was suprised to read that subaru would void my warranty if i installed an aftermarket alarm. i better look into this cause if it's true i'll throw a tantrum.

elarbee,
They can only void your warranty if they can show that the modification caused the failure - e.g. if your gearbox shits itself and you have a new alarm they have no grounds to ding it - but if you've put on a new ECU and 'zorst they could try to argue the extra power / torque killed the box. It'd be worth checking what consumer affairs say about it Perth as the response from dealers can vary from either being cool about it and helping or going as far as suggesting a non standard window tint voids any all parts of the car.

I have an MY03 WRX Sti and the Brant is by far the worst "feature" of the car, there is no way l would ever choose to put one on myself.
l am interested in the Brembo brakes too but wonder where we stand as far as legalities/ADR's etc since no Liberty in Oz has ever been sold with them fitted? Insurance companies will just say they will cover the car if the mod is legal, so is it?
Cheers

I have been told, not sure as yet tho... going to goto Subaru and ask them... but I think your allowed to go Cat back for the zorst and that will still keep your warrenty?

G'Day All
Re the Alarm situation, I believe the IMOB is a pretty good setup for stock and not many if any have been cracked. The extra POM (Peace of Mind) would be nice I suppose but the standard security system is good. The "we will void your warranty" in my mind is like saying, if u buy something else, Im taking my bat and ball home with me. I would say "YES" I will install a Subaru System if Subaru can guarantee that it will out preform any of the aftermarket systems. It would also be like saying that the OEM HeadUnit will out preform any aftermarket system but if you take it out, we will also void your warranty, we all know what we think of the current OEM HeadUnit. Just doesnt seem right at all that they can play this card. Personally I think this is the dealerships stand and not the stand of Subaru Australia. I would check with them personally and call the dealerships bluff.
Re the Brembo kit. I believe that this piece of equipment would only improve the GT's handling ability and as it is already used thru the Subaru/STi brand, I believe that ADR would have no problems with this equipment being fitted to the GT. Insurance will certainly cover the cost by increasing yr premium to match accordingly.

Pretty much any car alarm can be fitted to the Liberty.
I've got an Autowatch 160 RLi ( i think). Works fine, i get a insurance discount and i'm happy with it .
