OK Guys,
Tried to get some pics tonight before we went out for dinner. Forgive the quality but I've tried to focus on some of the interior and things that people have posted me about / questioned. I'm still working out how to add pics so bear with me as this might be a work in progress. Have only done about 300 kms so far but loved all of them...
For the record, this is #65 of 300 and an Urban Grey Manual Sedan with the Silver/Chrome wheels. Here are the pics I got tonight in the fading light:
(1) Shot from the passenger side
(2) Rear quarter shot of the nice bling wheels
(3) Driving position - note the metal pedals and the side plates in the door
(4) Drivers seat showing the stitching and Alcantara but no STi logo :(
(5) Shot of the front seats (including the two baby seats for the observant ones!)
(6) Front quarter shot with a closeup of the wheel
(7) Shot of the "STi" rooflining (or in other words, it is black not the normal light grey - worth about 3-4 kW ATW apparently)
(8) Second interior shot with a view of the McIntosh Head Unit / Stacker
Darren
p.s. I don't seem to have got the quality right on the converted pics so apologies for some of the pixelation. The grey and evening sun don't help much either I guess?

More , more , please.
Love the lowered look and the rims. Is the STI rim silver or gun metal ? Hard to tell with the lighting in the shade.
How many kms so far?

Thanks for the pics Darren.
l love the colour, very nice. Interior looks stock other than the seats, instruments and build plate but l guess the premium over the standard GT is not that much so you have to be realistic.

Yeah Simon the interior is pretty stock. I guess the seats are the main difference and then the red gauges but you'd need to be a subie fanatic to know the gauges meant anything?
I think the colour is the best of the 3 choices but Vin's black one does look wicked. But god what a pain to clean it...

wow
seriously, from the key, to the alcantara seats, black trim on the dash and center stack that looks so much better than our faux aluminum...wheels, McIntosh system...
totally jealous. Those differences would go a long way to addressing the few gripes I have about my otherwise wonderful car.
I know its been said before, but what the F was SOA thinking by not offering McIntosh, better key, etc. etc. etc.
edit: lower lip, and spoiler too! I understand that this is a special edition so to speak, but for what it would have cost Subaru to add these features to our version, people would have paid the difference.

Well thanks for the pics and all the time and effort it has taken.
Im really really excited about the STi and am thrilled that you are happy with the finally product. Looking forward to my order now and seeing it in the flesh. I suppose u now cant wait to finally say BYE to your guests so you can really rip some KM's onto the STi.
Darren, thanks again for the images and look forward to personally catching up with u in the near future.

Wonder why they did not elect to put the 6sp in her as the box is a STI bit of gear. Thats said, darren the car looks awesome. She has a slightly malevolent look about her.....nice. congratulations.

12-29-2005, 05:44 PM
As Aki said - it is a 5 speed. On the one hand a 6 speed would have been great but so far I've not felt a need for it. To be honest, at "running in" pace with some fairly different road conditions thrown in I've been happily skipping gears thanks to the torque. The Mazda MPS needed the 6 speed but I'm not convinced either the std GT or this model do?
I think the reason it looks so great is the look is just "mildly malovent". I must find a std GT to photo it next to - looks so good when you just look at the subtle mods and 25 mm lowering. Just a nice hint of aggression all round...
p.s. Aki - no sweat - answer away
p.p.s. Mines / Gead - thanks for the compliments - appreciated

Does the STi feel a lot bigger than the B4. Specs says it is bigger than yr B4 and my MY01 but does it really feel it when yr behind the wheel?

Very nice. Surprising they haven't included the steering wheel with stereo controls on it.

The reason being I think is this is a McIntosh System, unsure if they have controls for this in the 3.0R SpecB or not? U might be able to confirm this yrself ?????

Hi Darren,
Do you know the torque figure? I can't imagine the extra 10kw make that much difference to your performance impression, presuming the gearing is the same as the stock. Does the turbo spool up and kick in earlier? Would be interesting to compare a dyno chart between a Tuned by STi vs stock.

12-30-2005, 06:25 AM
Guys,
It doesn't feel substantially bigger than the B4 so far. Roughly similar although being so protective of the four sides I might as well be piloting the Spirit of Tassie down the streets.
I agree re the Stereo controls but not really that fussed - the controls are pretty intuitive and I don't think you need to look off the road for any of the simple stuff.
Allegedly the power / torque has gone from 190kW/330Nm to 200kW/343Nm but the car feels very different to the two GTs I have test driven. My guess is that the 343 is either developed much earlier or the torque curve is quicker to >300NM and very flat. If the car wasn't brand new, I'd try and squeeze a spot at the WRX meet to see how flat it looks. I can't reconcile the small torque increase with the seat of the pants improvement (and I am sure there is no change to the turbo or gearing).
Maybe the 'zorst helps????

Good point 'I Wish'. Adam, the 3RB has the macintosh system (very nice stereo it is too) with the wheel controls. It is odd that they are not included. $$ perhaps....

Yeah seems a bit weird now that u mention that. Curious if u could install it or would it require a whole new wheel ???
Interesting.

if it could be done, its one mod i would do....my clio has stereo controls behind the steering wheel, and its fantastic...its a shame they didn't put it in...maybe its the whole japanese spec thing..?

Call me somewhat sceptical but I figure this car was assembled to a price point and things like controls on the wheel, brembos, sunroofs would all have pushed the car over the price point? Or maybe there's something about the stereo in the GT that is different from the other models and it makes the wheels controls costly / impossible - do the Spec B's have the same McIntosh as the GT gets (I'm assuming our cars have the same spec radio as the std GT given it was pushed as a selling point?)...
Refuel light came on this arvo after 435 kms which is about 50 kms better than the B4 typically did. Assuming a similar safety margin, I'd feel very confident about getting 500kms out of a tank of juice around town. Although I have been pretty well behaved - never over 5500 rpm....

Darren,
l think you are correct on the price point, l believe they cut and trimmed where needed to keep the car below the $60k phsycological barrier. l reckon for the money its a bargain when you compare it to other $60k performance cars. l dont feel the need for Brembos, the Libs have pretty good brakes and the car has only got lighter if anything over the stockie.
Not sure about the audio controls for the stereo, l have a Lib brochure here and cant work out if the manuals get them. The autos do as you can see them in pics along with the sportshift buttons. The spec B's do have the smae McIntosh system as the GT.
l am almost embarresed to ask this, but anymore pics

435K u say. Well I suppose that is not bad for breakin. Im sure once u get atleast 10K on the STi, those figures will continue to rise as much of our American friends have relised with their 2.5T jobbies.
Sorry to say but MP3 CD's wont cut it either, myself and a few other members have been trying to work out a way to get a MP3 player such as an iPod setup going BUT to still no luck.... but we havent given up yet.
Darren, did u drive the STi in the heat ? If so, how did the windows go and how was the A/C ?
I know in my MY01 the A/C has a ECO Mode but am lead to believe this isnt featured in the MY04> models. I suppose I will find out soon enough.

OK guys - some answers for your new year questions... (forgive me if I miss some):
- CD player won't play MP3s based on one disc tried
- I am impressed by how well the iTrip / iPod combo works in the car c.f. the B4 - I just leave it sitting in the centre console / console box (with the power in there) and it sounds fine for iPod
- I have investigated a hard wired FM modulator for about $200-$250 fitted but based on the first week WON'T be going down this path - if it stays this good then I'll just live with the iTrip option and save the cash...
- Fuel economy looks fine - if I can get 500 kms with some spirited sub 5500 rpm driving in there too then I'm very happy with the deal
- Car was fine in the heat yesterday - no issues with the car nor with the A/C (thankfully - was driving home in Melbourne's 43 C end of year heat)
- I'm confused by the tint, it still looks wierd from the outside but it's really not that bad from inside but I am going to get the fronts darkened to match (help Rob!)
- No more economy mode on the A/C - apparently no longer needed? Can report that set at 18C with 43C outside temps, the A/C was freezing my hands within about 10 mins so was manually turning the fan speed down...
Happy to take and post more pics - guys tell me what you want me to photo and will try to do it tomorrow. The car looks much grubbier after a couple of rain storms but I'm a driver not a car washing fanatic...
Welcome to 2006 - you'll be in yours soon!

Didnt think the disk would work in MP3 mode.
Hmm interesting re the iPod setup, will have to take a listen to yours as I was moving down the hardwire setup.....
Im sure the economy figures will climb a little once the engine is past its green point.
Yeah looking at yr pics, from the outside they look extra dark but there is one with yr front door open and u can see out the passenger side window and it looks fine and all of yr pics were taken in the shade too so looks good.
(Rob please heed our call........)
Curious about the ECO Mode, trial and error on that one.
And... personally I dont want to see ANY MORE PICS, as for me they are spoilers and Im sure u can understand, but for the rest of the guys... enjoy.

Clutch is sensational - I am terrible for stalling cars (did it about 5 times in first 10 mins when I drove the MPS heh heh) and the clutch / part throttle response is sensational...
I think that the whole eco mode in A/C must have just been superceded by better technology? Kind of a silly idea when you think it through and I'm just assuming that as they've improved A/C systems the need for an eco mode has just vanished?
The iPod thing has impressed me - I was thinking I'd need to blow $300 for an install of a permanent inline modulator but so far it is working just fine in the console. There is no easy way to permanently wire in from all I can tell and I can't really take to the car with a soldering iron given how good the iPod sounds...
Kids - no sweat - best thing we ever did. Mind you the lovely Alcantara in the back is now covered in old towels due to two baby seats. Most unconventional rear for a STi I suspect...
agctr
01-01-2006, 08:09 AM
Well that is good news re the clutch, had me a tad worried at first.
I suppose i will just have to get in and have a drive.
What are the seats like, the Alcantara especially since we both are used to having full leather seats.

PS and the kids, Im sure they will come for me and I cant wait..... well maybe a little wait ....

Hi Darren,
What about a shot from the back to show off the quad muffler tips?
Is the Tuned by STi car using the stock brake set up or a beefed up version? I feel the stock brake is sub par already for a performance orientated car.
Just a curious observation. What's up with Subaru NZ getting a 206kw/343Nm stock GT running on minimum 96 ron fuel and us getting a detuned 190/330Nm verison running on 98 ron fuel :icon_evil

Does the exhaust note seem any different with the change in mufflers? Does the engine sound any different like it may be boosting harder? l am very looking forward to my first drive, l have expectations of close to Sti performance in a much more attractive package........well you have to dream.

OK guys, I'll see what I can do afrter work tonight...
I don't know about the exhaust note being different but the engine certainly feels like it has substantially more torque / power than the 5% increase on the spec sheets. As I think I've said on many occasions, the car feels noticeably quicker than either the std GT or MPS that I test drove a few times in November...

Sounds a bit harsh for something that will benefit the car and probably is a plus for primary safety feature.

C,
I reckon you should talk to the STi dealers in Sydney as we discussed on the phone - your dealer is just talking rubbish. Worst case they can only disallow the bits impacted by the change - e.g. if your 'zorst messed up they can't blame the brakes...
Talk to the STi guys at Docklands (I know you have already) and get them to recommend a dealer in Sydney who'll fit it for you.

Just some of the information that is passed between the dealers can be so off putting. I have to apologise for some of the information that has gone around that has been incorrect and/or outdated in the past 2 or so months. I believe as more STi's are delivered, a lot of the questions can be answered by me especailly and some of the other owners.
For interest sake, I could have picked up mine on the same day that Darren did but I have decided to hold off till towards the end of the month. Also regarding the brakes, they will still be the standard setup that has come from the GT, hence the debate with more pwr, we should have received an upgrade of either pads, SSBL or rotors for starters. The Brembo kit is one thing but you have to also look at what esle they need to upgrade for that sort of package. I have no idea how/why Subaru Australia can void warranty on the entire STi for one particular upgrade that is being fitted as a "PURE STOCK ITEM" in Japan. Because this piece of equipment has been deleted from our local STi production, I believe that SOA should seriously look at giving ppl that want the opportunity to upgrade to have the ability to without the treats of voiding warranty. For SOA to take this into serious consideration would be fantastic and a real help to owners with the most expensive Subaru or STi to land upon these shores.

Well to be honest Ive been chatting to Allianz but am currently with NRMA. NRMA/RACV have been fantastic in the past even though I currently have a MY01 2.5NA and Im paying 1300.... so 1700 aint bad. Guys,
Subaru quoted $1850 for the GT by STi pre-Xmas and no-one else seems to yet have it on their system? I got mine transferred with Suncorp and went to great lengths to make sure the paperwork was right so I'm still covered.
I hope that a few more firms will add the car to their lists this month now it has been (finally) officially released.

Gead, I would on Monday be making a phone call to Tynans and asking for the STi to be kept under wraps, meaning that NO one is to drive the STi, not one is to SIT .... in the STi.
Personally I would be going a lot higher up the food chain than speaking with yr salesperson, speak to the principal of the dealership and say that U are based in Melbourne and cant understand WHY the STi needs to travel all that distance for nothing &/OR take it to higher management within Subaru.
Let me know how you go on Monday, if u have any drama, send me a PM and I will give you a few contacts up higher. The only real reason I can see why they want the STi in Sydney is for other Punters to see it AND for Photo Opportunties.

im so envious jayandmel black would be sweet. Ive heard rumours that some black models are getting sold as soon as thier owners get them for thousands above retail because of their rarity. Hi All, I'm new to this forum so excuse me if I cover any old ground.(I've read most of the posts). Adam, I've just traded my 2003 M3 SMG II,Carbon Black,Harmon Kardon,Sunroof,Sat Nav,Black Leather,34000k on a new Mini Cooper S Chilli so I should be able to give an informed view on living with an M3 compared to a Liberty GT (tuned by) STi.I traded my wife's Forester XT on the Liberty (soon to arrive!!).My dealer has 2 silver and 1 urban grey GT STi arriving at the end of this week(one with my name on it-I get to pick the colour when I see them.So far I am the only one to place a firm order.) Great to FINALLY have a BrisVegas member onboard. I believe you are the first to have ordered an STi in Brisbane and no doubt the only person here that has had a choice of colour on delivery.
Being such a massive fan of the ///M Im not sure I would have traded an ///M on a Mini but then again Im sure u have your reasons. Im sure that you and your wife are going to love the STi. Im sure the sound system will be better than the HK system although atleast that has iPod connection. Power will be a bit different and the paddle system is TOTALLY DIFFERENT if u got EAT.

All the best.

Thank you Adam. The M3 wasn't a direct trade for the Mini but it made sense to trade the M at a BMW dealer and the Forester at a Subaru dealer. The value of E46 M3's is going down in Brisbane with the E90 3 series being available and mileage is always a factor with this type of vehicle so it was time for it to go.The M3 went to Melbourne so you may even see it down there.I've owned several 3 series and this is the first one that I've lost any money on so I decided to try a Liberty (hopefully a very special one.)The more money you spend on a car the more you can lose!We owned a Forester GT before the XT and I've always been happy with them.I owned a 911 Porsche before the M3 but they are too conspicuous-every Commodore/Ford driver wants to race you. Great Stuff Bob. I agree that trading the M @ BMW and the Forester @ Subaru is a good idea and maximises your trade in especially since you bought a Mini - BMW & STi - Subaru.
Also agreed, I cant believe the value drop of the in the E46 M. On the specs that I wanted, it has dropped some 15K on the MY04 model alone. So with more of the E90's begining to appear, the resale will only get worse. I am also sure that you will get a few wanting to run against U with the STi as well.
Im sure you will love the EAT, just its a totally different setup to the ///M. If you use the shifter and not the paddles, just remember the shifter is around the other way. So in the STi to take off you push forward not back like in the ///M and when going down gears, pull back instead of pushing forward. Unsure if you can get this changed around, but I would say it would be pretty easy considering its electronic but I would be 100% sure the dealership wont do it for you.
I will keep my eye out for the ///M down here aswell.

Darren, I've obviously driven the standard GT and I was fairly impressed with that.Does your STi still feel much stronger? Is there any noticeable lag? Does it pull strongly from low revs? I can't wait to get mine(I'm driving one of my son's Toyota Corolla-the 'Rolla-at the moment). Has anyone else got their STi yet? Bob

On the forum I think Darren is pretty much it at the moment.
From the info that Darren has given, the STi is a lot stronger especially down low. Darren is following the correct break in procedure (as he tells us.....) and hasnt really pushed it so it will be interesting to see once that has been done.
I feel for you in the Toyota Bob, esp after steeping out of the M.
Ada///M.

Bob,
Actually I wasn't that impressed with the standard GT - if there wasn't the GT STi then my rear end would be in a Mazda MPS about now (cue flame session). I had a B4 and despite its faults that car always seemed "better" than the GT. Anyway, convinced I made the right choice now...
The pull from the GT STi is phenomenal down low - to be honest, I can not reconcile the modest increase in torque with the total change in accelerative behaviour. I'd love to see the before / after torque curve because I am sure the ECU flattened the curve by raising it all over the rpm range.
As I think I've said a few times on the forum, and elsewhere, the std GT always felt like a step down from the B4. Very happy to report that the GT STi is a step up not backwards...
Cheers, and welcome onboard,
Darren
p.s. I'd be shocked if you chose the silver over the grey - in the flesh the grey is just the ducks nuts...

Ooops, did I miss a gloat heh heh
p.s. And I am still following the <6,000 rpm rule from delivery. Actually changing up at well before whenever I remember and not going for long cruises at flat revs. It's killing me but almost 1/2 of the way to 1500kms. THEN THE FUN BEGINS!!!!!
darren, i'm the same...well kind of...i was really unimpressed with the standard gt, and was about a bees willy away from putting my money down on a liberty spec b. After the clio i was after some sharp handling and some low down urge. the spec b killed the standard gt on both counts...the sti however should address both concerns! This will be my first turbo car, and i must say when i first drove the gt, i fell in love with that hi pitched 'whine' that the turbo had...i am so looking forward to my wagon!
are subaru recomending 1500kms under 6000rpm?...6k seems pretty high..??!
agctr
01-09-2006, 03:19 AM
6K does seem a tad high I have to admit but then again the ///M has a breakin of 5.5K for the first 2K Kms so it seems to be on par.
Same as you Simon, this will be my first T-car although my Mum, Dad and sister all have AWD turbos so Im pretty grounded.
Darren.... MPS u must be kidding. I saw one on Friday night and mate, do yrself a favor, just go and check out the rear exhaust... its a MOCK UP JOKE. I cant believe after all the fantastic reports that I have heard about the MPS that Mazda would put a POS exhaust system on that would make a Festiva proud. Hmmm, not sure I agree re the looks and the exhaust but it's all personal opinion - I'd be amazed if the MPS doesn't steal plenty of sales from Subaru... Not wanting to start a he-said, she-said thing but drive it and check it out in the flesh and I was impressed.
What is good is the fact we do have a choice - when I bought the B4 the only other mid-size alternative was either a way overpriced Euro like the 330 or similar cash for a HSV or Tickford. At least we can choose GT / MPS / Spec B at the moment and I am sure this segment is going to grow.

01-09-2006, 05:18 AM
Darren for mine the looks of the MPS are fantastic, the thing I was disappointed in was they have this FANTASTIC looking rear with integrated exhaust into the back bar but the exhaust tips are fake. The exhaust actually pokes thru the tips.... what is with that? Thats what Im getting at. To be honest, I havent driven but certainly may be worth a tester to see what the competition is doing.
Stephen, yes sales will drop hence the push on the SpecB and the 2.0R, 2.5 GT's should start arriving in the 3rd - 4th Quarter of this year. Unsure what the specs will be and curious to know if they will run a twin scroll setup or the same as our American friends.

Well guys l lay my eyes on an UG Liberty Sti this arvo and was extremely impressed, by noon tomorrow she will be mine  One very classy but aggresive car, the rims look great in the flesh and a big thumbs up to SA for including 5 not 4.
One concern l had was the brakes looking tiny behind those big wheels but they dont, the rotor size on the GT is pretty good. The car sits a lot lower than l expected and looks tough, l can imagine with the suspension mods and ride height that it will have great handling. The interior mods were minimal IMO but the interior of the Liberty is great as it is, some Sti embossing would have been the finishing touch though.
Test drive at 10am tomorrow, cant wait.
Cheers Simon
PS l agree about the MPS exhaust, that was a pathetic cost cutting move IMO. The quad pipes on the Sti GT is the single best mod by far, it looks great.

I'm pretty sure turbo timers are illegal (at least in Vic?). I wouldn't bother personally - just be aware enough to not flog the car and then immediately switch it off and you should be fine.
Paint protection is very personal. Some think it is worthwhile and others think it is a complete and utter waste of money. I'm pretty much unconvinced but it's just personal opinion...

I'm not entirely sure about their legality but just had a nagging suspicion...
I've had 4 turbos now and never had a problem with oil / turbos. Admittedly all were always stock but I think that they've improved heaps since the old Starion days. I think a bit of common sense in terms of when you turn off and how much of a flogging the car had a minute before you take the key out.
guys ive ran into a bit of a problem. We have brought a liberty tuned by sti and prior to that we owned a Liberty GT. When i got the trade in value for the GT i nearly died! It was $36,000 and they were going to sell it for $45,990. So i decided to sell it privately.
The problem is we need to sell the GT before we get the STi. We can not have 2 cars at the same time. I have put advertisements for it in carpoint, the cars guide, put for sale signs on the windows (the window tint is really dark and you can not see them very well) and posted it on MRT.
Any other ideas on how i could get it sold urgently?

Hey Everyone.
For mine, TurboTimer wont be required, I baby my MY01 that much now that I dont get out until the fan switches itself off and Im driving a NA engine, so think I should have it covered.
For mine, Paint Protection is a must esp with paint becoming thinner by the day. Its just an extra level of security against chips etc and for the money it aint bad considering they protect everything inside as well.
Re quick sale Kayd, the only option that u might have left to you is going and talking to some of the auction houses. You wont get 45K for the GT but you wouldnt think U will only get 36K either.

Good luck with the auction houses, but I think you have to face the unfortunate reality of second hand car prices. My best guess is you could aim for a quick sale in the high $30s privately or hang on a long time for the low $40s...

01-09-2006, 10:55 PM
Turbo timers are a waste of time and money. If you have been thrashing it a bit then all you have to do is stay off boost and cruise to your destination for the last 5km or so. That will be siufficient time for the turbo to cool down. The turbos are water cooled and the water will still circulate after the ignition has been turned off.
Kayd. It really is a buyers market at the moment and I think that you have to be realistic and maybe have to sell the vehicle for a lot less than you are expecting. Model cycle times are down and the market is flooded with nice secondhand vehicles with owners such as yourself looking to upgrade to the latest models.

Never really known it not to be a buyers market unless U are trading in a 1969 DINO GT Ferrari with genuine 2,000 miles on the clock.

I'm a bit of a fanatic so I always like to individualise(is that a word?) my cars.Any suggestions? I'm thinking of a tracker system rather than an alarm-has anyone had any experience with these? I'm sure there is one on the market in Australia.
The M3 left Brisbane about a week prior to Christmas but I think it went to a specific buyer. It was worth almost $5,000 more in Victoria than Qld.

Damn.... $400 a year, that is some expense....
Unsure if Insurance will change that much but its worth a shot.

Hi Guys,
Just thought I'd let you all know that I just picked up my black sti sedan. I am totally stoked!!! We ordered the black number plates with the metallic silver writing, it suits the car completely. The head guy from Subaru NSW saw the car and was that impressed he has photographed it to put it in their monthly magazine.
Darren I totally agree with the torque, not that I have really squeezed it that hard. I have done 67 kms but am pushing for the 1500km by the weekend's out. When we picked it up it had 37km on the clock am jjust waiting for peak hour to die down in Sydney before I can totally enjoy!!!
We have number 54 of 300 and we couldn't be happier with the choice! We test drove 2 GT's before this and having owned a GTR R34, was a bit aprehensive of how it would stack up. No disrespect to the GT but this car is definately takes it to a whole new level!!!!
Traffic's died down know, off to drive, will load some pic's as soon as we stop driving.

Driving in Sydney did I hear U say........ dont U mean CRAWL... LOL only joking. Im so happy that you are stoked with yr STi. That is so fantastic. And here u were not even a week ago having a melt down on the delay. I cant imagine HOW the R34 GT-R stack up against the STi but Im sure they would play well together. (R34 GT-R was on my shopping list only a TAD behind the ///M, but thats a WHOLE other story.)
Like Bob and Im sure the rest of the Guys and Girls on the Forum, cant wait to see pics of the STi.
Take care, drive safe and make sure you let Mel have a drive too......
All the best.

Jay and Mel - congratulations - told you you'd love it :D :D
Adam, do you mind sharing the insurance #s? Pm is fine...
Bob - I'm not sure Quiktrak is worth it at that cost? I'd need to see a sizeable reduction in my insurance for that kind of coin? Could afford to lose a car a year and the $400 would cover my excess...

Guys just got in it's 12.20am and we have almost 200km on the clock!!! It just gets better and better the more you drive it.
All I can say is WHOO HOO SUBARU!!!!!!!!!
Bob, just thought we'd let you know we are having Quicktrak installed Monday, looked into all the other alternatives and they are all pretty similar in the features they offer but Quicktrak has reduced their install costs by half. (We had it in the Skyline and it cost almost 3K.) When we told the insurance companies we were installing it, they said it didn't matter they don't reduce the premiums at all. In one case the premium went up as they called it an accessory. We are running with it simply for the fact that it gives us a bit more peace of mind and Sydney has a huge car-jacking problem at the moment.
We tried all the insurance companies and the best value we found was Shannons & AAMI, we chose Shannons as they give you 2yrs new for new replacement & AAAMI only gave 12mths.
We will endeavour to get pics loaded this weekend.
Ps. Adam & Darren thanks again for all your help and input, it's great to be able to talk to a group of guys who really know their cars.

Fantastic Jay and Mel.
Your more than welcome for the assistance, least we could do. Cant believe how expensive the tracking system is but then again, if it works... why not. Plenty of car-jacking issues are not good in any town but have heard of a guy that bought a SLK55AMG in Sydney and he was followed by a group of guys, he called the cops and they got to him just as the guys were about to jump him.... not bad timing.
That is an amazing deal from Shannons sounds like its worth looking into thats for sure.
So happy that yr loving the STi and great to see them now rolling out onto the road. Cant wait to see the pics.... and I dont mind pics of the STi moving so I dont want to hear any excuses that U havent stopped to take any LOL....
All the best and keep in touch.
Ada///M.
Darren, sent you a PM re insurance, unsure if U got it or not as the Server is playing up.... Let me know.

Jay and Mel,
Thanks for the info. When I spoke to Quiktrak they said that they were installing in 2 GT STi's - one in Sydney and one in Melbourne. If we get a few of us together I wonder if they would give us a deal on monitoring?
I bet you're attracting attention in your Black GT STi.

To give you an idea mate we are paying A$60k here for a Lib Sti, the new BMW M3 is A$150k. ie. 150% more expensive.
How does that comapre in the US out of curiosity, l bet its more like 75% more?
Thats why we are so excited by these cars, cant beat them for the money

Simon,
Being a MOD at M3Forum.com, I know that a fully loaded ///M3 cost roughly USD60K onroad in the US. Therefore this works out roughly to be around the AUD100K mark, but the US doesn't get the full wak of power the EURO models does that we get 333HP vs 343HP, we also get the drilled brake package, but everything else is the same.
DAMN Australian LUXO TAX.

OK Guys.
Here are a couple of pics of the result of Rob Tait's fine handiwork over the weekend. Cars featured - GT Wagon = Rob's, GT STi's = Chester & Darren
#1 - front end of my car with Rob's wagon at the rear
#2 - rear of both cars with Rob checking out his work!
#3 - the craftsman at work
#4 - front view (just realised I must have had the door partially open - oops)
#5 - another front view
#6 - side view of both cars
#7 - front quarter view (something wierd with the reflection of Rob's garage door here?)
Hope to see some of you this weekend at the WRX Show 'n' Shine
Cheers,
Darren
Jord, i have been told my wagon will be on a truck tomorrow subject to the finace going thru...did they give you a reason?
Didn't really give a reason. They just said they are trying to get it but it's still in Melbourne. I think my dealership is getting screwed around a little bit.... I know they are getting a little frustrated. They have offered to loan me a car though until it arrives.

Jord, sounds a bit weird but how fantastic is that, a loan car till the STi arrives, now that is customer service I have to say. Just keep on them and keep pushing, but take the loaner for the moment.
Ada///M.
Yeah its good of them to give me the loaner. I'll go pick it up tomorrow. I think they just feel sorry for me as i've already sold my last car. I'm just getting so frustrated thugh... I want my STi!

The car's a beauty. I hope all 300 STIs go quick and don't become showroom queens like our Spec B seems to have become over here. The only local dealer that got one can't seem to give it away, I saw it in the showroom today. Pretty soon they'll move it out to the lot I'm sure.

Hi all,
I finally, actually, got my #5 this afternoon. Took it for a run down to Wisemans Ferry and back (for those who know Sydney).
If you don't, it's a long, twisty, reasonably quiet and not very often patrolled 45km of pretty poor road, but it is great for a fast blast.
What a great car, my wife-o-meter didn't complain about excessive speed until about 20 kms per hour faster than she normally would. Pretty good.

Congratulations Darryl! Wisemans Ferry? That is kinda out my way. I live in Arcadia.
