I'm in Sydney for NYE and I'm trying to figure out what to do. Obviously I'm going to see the fireworks, but I can't figure out if it is worth the cost for one of the ticketed events or if a normal viewing area would be ok.

A boat seems like the logical choice, but I'm not sure I want to spend 7 hours on a boat for the fireworks.

In any case... any suggestions from some locals?

Normal viewing will be totally fine, trust me, you will still see everything without the cost. Just go to dinner early, in the City, Bondi, Manly and then catch the ferry back to the city... there is an idea. Plenty of ppl around so just be careful but have heaps of fun, plenty of stuff to do that is free also. Have a look in the local paper and see what is avail.

Have a great time and take care of you.
All the best for NYE and 2006.

We ended up going to the Midnight at the Oasis event. It was definitely worth it... We had a table right on the harbour. Some pictures...
