That white wagon is just GORGEOUS. It's even a manual! I would be all over that.

Are those 18 inch wheels stock in NZ? It's interesting that the sedan and wagon have the same list price new.

As i understand it the base model in NZ is the Spec B - with 18's etc.

And yep Wagon and Sedan are same price.

Do they sell many? I assume that $60k is a big ask for the average Kiwi when it comes to buying a car? Surely they struggle with the Japanesse Import market.

Subaru new sales have been increasing so i suspose Subaru NZ is happy - but your right that the average would not buy new.

Given the import laws it doesn't make good $$ sense anyway.

Re Imports - Subaru NZ asked Japan if we could get the cars just after launch - to beat the importers to the punch - another reason why we got the rare manual while other countries are still waiting.

Subaru is confident of another buoyant year in 2004 after lifting its sales by 5.8 percent in 2003.

The new top of the range twin scroll titanium turbocharged Legacy GT was launched in July, but it was not until the start of October the other models in the Legacy range became available.

The Forester was Subaru's single biggest selling model in 2003, partially due to the fact the until now, all conquering Legacy line up was not available all year.

In 2003, 1629 new Subarus were sold in New Zealand for a 2.3 percent share of the market. With 1540 new car sales in 2002 the brand increased its volume by 5.8 percent.

And Mr Dumper is pleased Subaru outperformed all the European brands including its main direct rivals, a situation that has not always occurred in the past.

Subaru has started 2004 with the introduction of the six cylinder Outback 3.0R models this month.

Import volumes would be higher by at least 10x

I'm assuming a lot of the Impreza's for sale on the Winger site are imports? Late 90's WRX's and Sti's in the $20k range. Are these cars a good bet? I mean are they mechanically sound? I remmebr a lot of horror stories regarding imports back in the day.

Probably import trade in's ~ hard to tell from pics. Easy on close inspection tho

Generally they are in good condition - i reckon the Japs look after there cars better than Kiwi's

Of course some dodgy but some are immaculate. If u chosse a car that is looked after your fine.

AA does prepurchase mechinical inspections for $100. Also mechinical warrentees are avaialbe at a price.

You can spot the imports as they have no number plates

So taking into account the importation of various cars, what kind of market share do you think Subaru has in New Zealand? Are Subarus imported more than other Japanese brands?

Not much

In 2003, 1629 new Subarus were sold in New Zealand for a 2.3 percent share of the market.

The Legacy was the number one import i think

Ok, I was thinking that if 1629 cars was2.3% and another 5000 were imported, that would put Subaru at maybe 5% of the mtrue market (official & imports). Where that is significant is that it would put NZ as the 2nd highest Subar market share after Japan. I believe that is currently Australia at about 3.3% marketshare.
