So how of you here have seen or are ordering this as an option ?
If so how much is your dealer asking for it ?

I dont think many here in Oz have ordered it. As far as I am aware, this is not an option offered as of yet. It may be offered in the near future but not at the moment. From information I have, the system could fetch up towards the 3+K mark which is extremely high. Please make sure u do yr homework prior to purchasing this system as it only does SatNav and will NOT allow any other devices such as Boost Controllers and DVD systems to be installed.

i'll be installing my own sat nav when i take delivery ( mid jan ) i'm probably going to install it where the top storage thing is on the dash. all up it'll cost $1500 max ( navman most likely ) the gui will be a lot better than oem plus the maps are on SD, easy to update and fast to load.

are you going to get an external aerial for it or rely on the inbuilt? I've got the Navman PiN and I'm trying to work out how to best do a semi permanent install using an external antenna?

external if i can make it happen easily. i find the internal antenna is good enough for most places but in the cbd or around tall buildings it gets a bit confused so i'd like better accuracy. plus the external antennae are cheap, like 25 bucks.. and connect to the navman systems, but i'm not sure about the PIN as it's a PDA as well right?

elarbee,
The PiN takes the MXC/MCX (std GPS fitting) as well so I'm wondering if I can get a discreet external antenna fitted and then have it permanently wired into the cabin? The antenna seem to be $99 if you buy Navman or $25 if you buy home brand (but they both look the same????).
It would be great to get the MXC fitting into the central box above the McIntosh so I could sit the PiN there but might be wishful thinking?

a quick mock up of where i'll place my navi..
http://myfoto.com.au/Photo/amyliam/forum_pics/liberty_gps.jpg
terribly inacurate but gives an idea. all power and antenna cables will be hidden behind and if i'm lucky i'll still be able to keep the compartment door so i can close it for security. but hell, i don't even know yet if the navi will fit lol.

I know I shouldnt ask BUT, surely there is a better option out there that we can fit a full size screen with the capabilities of having, SatNav, DVD, Boost Guage, Temp etc etc for the price of the standard SatNav option that Subaru has on the table ????????
Anyone ?

i'm sure you're right but then you're heading down the path of a carputer. although getting easier and easier to build, you could even buy one
http://www.xenarc.com/product/cp1000.html
but i found it hard finding navi software for windows xp. well i found stuff ( ie destinator or ozi explorer ) but the gui isn't nearly as nice as tom tom or navman.
here's another link with more carputer stuff

Thanks elarbee,
Im more or less just saying that for 3K Im sure that Alpine/Kenwood/SONY etc has a much better option. Im sure that those systems "MAY" have the capabilities to plug in those options I spoke about above. But just to have a system that does SatNav for X seems expensive considering the options now available to other makes such as Holden/Ford/Mercedes/BMW/AUDI etc.
Anyways, it was just a thought.

Hey All,
Just got back from the dealer who has retrofitted the Satnav option to my MY05 GT 5MT.
It wasn't cheap ($3,990 installed) :icon_surp
Problem is, they didn't test it before handing the keys back because there is no audio whatsoever and its going back tomorrow to be "fixed".
If anyone is interested in pics or whatever just let me know. They have installed the DVD-ROM drive under the drivers seat - I always thought it went in the glove box.

Ouch, thats got to hurt. I'd love to retrofit one but the cost puts me off. Instead I've installed an Evo 'road angel' into the dash storage bin and bought a mini ubd for the glovebox. The road angel gives me up to 250 metres warning of red light and speed cameras and gives my speed relative to the speed limit. At, or below, it stays blue, above or when I'm approaching a camera it turns red and a recorded voice (Peter Brocks incidentally) provides alerts and warnings. It normally plugs into the cig lighter but I've had it hard wired so I can close the mid dash stow door and keep it hidden. Very cool.

Went back to the dealer today, and it turns out that they forgot to connect the speaker wire up. Now the sound comes through a crappy loudspeaker thats mounted behind the dash (and sounds horrible) which you can't hear at speeds of 60km/h+
The dealer has said that there is no integration for the Satnav with the McIntosh system. I find this hard to believe, so I'm looking for anyone who might have Satnav+McIntosh system who can vertify this (or not).

When I was in Glen Waverly Subaru about two weeks ago, they were doing their first retro-fit of a Sat Nav system, and they told me the same thing, that they have to add a speaker because there is no way to connect it to the Mac...

A few low res phone pics attached. I've taken two during the day, dash stow door open and then closed. Also taken one of a typical warning. I entered a carpark while the alert was displayed, hence the satellite image being crossed through.

Matters, I had the Subaru Nav system retro fitted and the the voice commands com thru the McIntosh system. It dulls the music gives the instructions the ups the music again. Sound comes thru fine at any speed.
I had it fitted @ Subaru Glen Waverley and it was the first one they had done. They said to me that they had ordered that external speaker and for me to come back too have it fitted. After leaving I put in an address, playing around a little and the sound came thru the system. I love it sounds and looks great fits into that spot perfectly.

Wow, what did you 'play' with to get that to work? Subaru had my car for a whole day messing around trying to get it to work. They have installed the loudspeaker and its reallllly bad. From what I can tell they have wired it up correctly, because the 'beep' from the touchscreen is coming through the front speakers but the Voice-prompts are not.

I don't think it was anything I did... I meant I was playing putting an address in to see how it worked on screen then as I drove off it gave voice comands as well.
Maybe you could get your service centre to ring Glen Waverley and compare notes.
Does your Mac Mute when the external speaker comes on?
The first time I drove at night I was reversing and couldn't see a thing... that screen is so bright. I then found the night mode with the black background on the map which looks great. How have you found it apart from the speaker?

When was yours done Rocket?
I was in at Glen Waverly a couple of weeks ago, asking about McIntosh wiring, and they said they were in the middle of installing their first SatNav system, and that it was NOT connected to the McIntosh....

I've been reading the schematics I have for the Satnav Touchscreen, and this is what I think so far:
http://files.l33t.net.au/satnav-wiring.jpg
I have marked the relevant bits in RED on the diagram.
The connector down the bottom J801 is the connection from the screen to the DVDROM drive. There appears to be Audio L/R coming from it.
The connector up the top is what connects to the McIntosh unit. You can see here the Audio-Mute, etc...
What I don't understand, is why there is A-OUT(L)/A-OUT(R) and also NAVI-AUDIO (Mono). To me this seems that the screen has its own sound output (hence why I am hearing the beeps) that is seperate to the Navigation unit (NAVI-AUDIO).
...and where the hell does it plug into the McIntosh???
If the beeps are coming though fine, then it would be fairly trivial to mix the audio signal in also.
It seems to be working fine for Rocket01. I wonder what the difference is.

There is a wiring hardness that they use for connecting into the back of the McIntosh...not sure where it is or what the pinouts are. I'm hoping that maybe DarkWatch has got that info in his Installation Manual.

So how of you here have seen or are ordering this as an option ?
If so how much is your dealer asking for it ?
when I test drove a liberty in Feb 06 the dealer in Townsville quoted $3K -
I eventually bought a GT in Sydney with Sat Nav already fitted.
Got a good deal though - The whole car was 6K lower than the Townsville quote.
$56K and a little change for a new MY 06 GT auto wagon with satnav

Update...
So it seems that there is a difference between the MY05 and MY06 McIntosh units. The MY06 has got the added Satnav input whereas the MY05 does not.
The dealer is still trying to find a way around it, but I've had a professional audio place have a good look at it, and they can't see a way to make it work.

Hi all,
Ive been considering getting satnav, but the official subaru sat nav is a bit pricey and non-removable (i.e. cant imagine spending that amount, then using it only for a couple of years).
Has anyone considered the tom tom 910?

Sounds like it would work a treat only if our liberty's had aux-in.
Has anyone considered this setup? With:
a. CLR-AUX Clarion Auxiliary Input/CD Changer Switcher
b. Clarion EA1251B Interface for iPod
Would like to know if anyone's tried it ....

Hi, can't acces the link. can you cut and paste what it says. I would love to connect iPod, blutooth phone and sat nav. Have seen from o/s forums that the clarion 1251b allows an iPod to connect. Overseas forums, again talk about a BT1 or bt something else, english and usa markets respectively for blutooth phone connectivity. Clarion australia just give a don't know (and sound a bit don't care).
An alternative solution would be a tomtom 910 connected to the macintosh system. Can this be done? can it be done with the 1251b box??
should not really be this difficult, should it?
