View Full Version : Speculation on Legacy refresh and 5mph bumpers

The B4

This is more speculation than rumor or news. I was thinking about how the refreshes on the forester and the impreza both incorporated the 5mph bumper into a completely rounded face. The Tribeca is the same as well. That would lead me to believe the Legacy's face could lose the perception of having go-go-gadget bumpers in favor of a more rounded nose.

Thoughts?

Just please don't get a front end as hideous as the Tribeca.

Please no.......no....

part of me kind of hopes that they do -- just to make our 'good' looking legacies more rare, and more desierable.... at the same time - It would suck for legacies in general.

Luckily i've already got mine so i'm set.

i'm really going to be bitter if they announce a 6spd tranny and more HP, for the same cost.

one point of interest on the Forester, the '06 is about 1.5 inches longer than the '05, in other words the nose (or some part of the car) got stretched as opposed to chopping the bumpers to get that stubby look.

Applying the same logic to the Legacy, I don't think we will see the JDM style short overhangs, regardless of what face is applied. that's my speculation.

dont think thier gonna change the tribeca after the first year.. but hopefully they'll make the forester look better then a small honda pilot.

That was the photoshop picture I found on a JDM pic some months ago and has been circulating on LGT and NASIOC. I like it quite a bit. Subtle and clean.

Its nice I just like the current front end better. I dont know maybe it will grow on me like the '06 STI's did.

I hope they come out with some better colors for the new leggy. I would love to see a WRB or spec b charcoal gray.

I'm actually liking the front of the Impreza more than I anticipated, I am however unsure if it makes the front of the car too busy or not.

Almost bought a '06 STI a coupla days ago....really pulled out 'cause I wasn't sure I could deal with the front end.

I would get one but I can't deal with the interior compared to the LGT which I think is a good step up in class over the Impreza.

That photochopped picture looks too much like the front end of the new impreza(probably cause it is). Needs to look more elegant for the leggy in my opinion.

Where are your priorities!!! Buy that puppy!!! The only thing you'll see is pure excitement in every turn and the **** eating grin that will be permanently glued to your face everytime you pass by a mirror.

For the Record:
airplane schnoz + Tribeca = Me no likey
airplane schnoz + Impreza = Hot! Hot! Gimmie! Gimmie!

Agreed. I'm debating getting a new 05 MT LGT Limited wagon to be modded to Cobb stage 2, and perhaps suspension mods vs. waiting for the 07s. Rumors of an STI hatchback, 6 Sp MT on the Legacys are tantilizing. My dream would be a LGT Limited wagon with the STI engine and transmission. I have been considering the Spec B, also, but disappointed with lack of engine upgrade, necessity of the Nav system, same old 5 spd MT.

Just give us the JDM Spec B stubby bumper AND a telescoping steering wheel so I can go right back to the dealership and do some business!

It's not as bad as I thought it might be, but I'm still not digging it. Personally, I like the current face on the LGT. That said, any one have any sense when this will start showing up here? If it's sooner rather than later I may need to pull the plug now & get an 06. Thanks in advance, Rick Hanser

I hope so, ill be there. Don't want to just see a challenger which i've already seen in about 790 magazines this month.

i think everyone was overwhelmingly disgusted when the 06 WRX/STi came out and i was one of them...but like most people it's starting to grow on me (like an ugly babe but it's still a Suby WRX) but i don't think this is the look for Legacy...it's butt ugly!!:munch:

Looks like Subaru is bringing the Subaru BTH-5 concept to the show...but nothing else is "mentioned"

http://www.naias.com/section.asp?sectionID=22

...I like the comment at the bottom though; "More introductions are planned but have not been publicly announced by the manufacturers."

Here's to waiting a few more days....

It also lists Subaru as having two "displays", one for "Subaru" and one for the "Subaru Driving Performance Center"...I wonder if that's the new Performance Parts division?

That Chop doesn't look to bad- I mean- It could look worse I suppose.
I think though that Suby won't even go that far, I think they'll end up doing something more along the lines of the Blitzen look ala New Forester- more flush grille with the headlights/bumpers. Then again... if you were Suby and you really wanted to tie all your product lines together wity a 'look' Then adding that look to the OB/Legacy platform would accomplish that for sure.

Being as the OB is the most popular Suby - I wonder why they've waited to restyle them till last?

Opie, if it's like what I remember last year in Detroit, they had like SPT stuff in the basement with a couple of simulators and the actual Subaru display was up on the main floor of Cobo Hall. One way or the other, I'll be seeing it in about 10 days. :)

Links to these rumours ? Believe nothing that you read on the intraweb, and half of what you read in the press. It's not going to happen anytime soon.

If your dream is to have a MT wagn, and you are in a position to purchase right now, I would move quickly, there are a few left in the US, and hundreds in Canada.

As for the 6 speed, the LGT really doesn't need it, with the torque band we have, 5 is all you need.

Most manufacturers will experiment with less popular models before they apply a controversial design language to the bread and butter.

BMW is a good example

When people buy a car, the look of it shouldn't have to grow on you. I still don't like it and if they make cars like that in the future, that's the last subaru I'll buy.

I've come to enjoy some "grow on you" models...

Porsche Cayenne & Infiniti FX being a couple

I'm sure that BMW's new styling has grown on a lot of people (although I liked it out of the gate)

I would rather have something distinctive than bland as long as it doesn't look like butt.

That would be nice; however, when I first saw 02 WRXs, I thought they looked rather awkward, but after a while I started to like and even love the look of my 02 WRX sedan......

OTOH, I almost bought a 06 STI, but passed, at least in part 'cause of the appearance (front end and rear wing), and I immediately liked the 05 OBs, Legacys.

I agree; however, there were other considerations. As it turns out, I'm getting an 05 MT LGT Limited wagon. Will be upgrading soon. Better for me overall given kids, ski trips, etc.

That STi has Work Emotions I believe.

That Legacy chop pic is ok, not nice, not repulsive. But it does remind me of my cousin's Suzuki Forenza front end a bit.

oh, and as for what the next gen looks like, if it resembles the concepts i saw at the focus group, it's a similar front end to now, only with more impreza lights. the grill isn't the same as the impreza/tribeca.

Those are Rota Torque Wheels.

I like the way the new Impreza looks, but I'm afraid the Legacy won't look as good if they apply the same treatment to it. Dunno, could be wrong. I just love the way it looks right now, specially with the short JDM bumpers.
