Guys,
I thought we should somehow start a list of the Melbourne members of the forum - maybe think about a group descent on the next WRX Club drive with a bunch of GTs????
Any takers? I know there's a few of us signed up for GT STi's? I can think of four or five (Rob, Darren, Adam, Chester, ....) who are in Melbourne and on the forum...
Cheers,
Darren

Another Melbournian here who's willing to catch up if there's a drive day in the near future. I have seen quite a few GTs on the road of late so i hope more will jump in if they are on the forum.
Have been doing some minor tinkering to my Silver GT auto and can't wait to get my hand on the STi front lip from a Melbourne vendor who also happens to drive a Black GT.

Yes, infrequently though and i've just joined the MRT forum too.
Would love to catch up on future drive day and may be have a ride in your brand new STi car to see how the Bilstein struts and Pink spring combo feel as i have plan to mod my stock suspension next year.

Can' t wait to hear your first impression of the car.
My car is in the garage at the moment being fitted with Bilstein strut and new spring. Can't wait to get it back tonight for a quick spin. Just hope it's not too bone jarring firm .

Congrat Darren. Hope you can drop in for a quick update despite the festive season.
Gead, few more sleeps to go eh and bet the count down is annoying the hell out of you knowing that Darren has got his already :icon_bigg .
I spoke to STI a few weeks ago and they would know whether SA will allow the ECU mod to be retrofitted to MY 04-5 once the STI is officially released. I don't know how the STI special owners will feel about SA allowing the ECU mod to the earlier cars.
jasper
i say go for it ...for me the whole thing is that i have a somewhat special edition of the car, its the whole package, from the rims, to the ecu, to the hood lining. I am sure there are other liberty's around with more power, bigger rims etc as after market mods, and i respect that (i don't have the time or inclination to go down that track). I have no probs with the ecu tune being offered as a mod
and yeah...the wait is killing me! :icon_evil:icon_evil:icon_evil

Guys,
'tis late and put the car away a few hours ago to enjoy some (liquid) festive spirit. So far, impressions are very positive and I'm wrapped in the new car. Very driveable (for me it matches the Mazda now on pull away which the std GT did not), handles very well and the tint thing looks worse than it is from inside the car.
I'll try and share some high res pics, including interiors, tomorrow. Going to bed a very merry, and very happy chap!
Cheers,
Darren
p.s. I think I was first delivered but the wait is worth it - this car is an awesome piece of kit

Hey Guys and Simon welcome onboard mate.
Fantastic to have you here and good to see that our member list is really growing.
In regards to the meet, we will no doubt have a small catch up prehaps in Feb/Mar or the leadup to the GP week. That way everyone will be here and have plenty of notice when, where and how the meet will go.
I have a few ideas sort of floating around at the moment but want this to be special and maybe have this one as a bit of an annual thing which would be great. If u have any suggestions, pls let me know.
Enjoy the ride Darren and speak soon.
Anyone seen or heard from Chester ?,

Guys,
l am not sure what mix of driving and socialising you are aiming for however a great destination for a day out is Walhalla in Gippsland. Its about a 70 min drive to Moe for those coming from Melbourne before turning off the Highway and heading up into the hills to Walhalla. Its a great drive and a beautiful destination.
Maybe too much driving but l thought it was worth suggesting.
Cheers Simon

Guys,
Whatever we do should be low key as the police seem to always take an interest in the WRX type cruises. Could you imagine 10 new GTs going through a carefully placed speed camera....
Something near the GP would be good? Otherwise we should tag along on one of the social WRX drives - Tinter and I are both members and it would be awesome to turn up with say 5-10 of us all at once...
agctr
12-29-2005, 06:57 PM
Agreed RE the Police situation, Im sure they do draw a lot of attention to the drivedays. But agree on something low key and MAYBE we could invite the WRX boys to our meet, Im sure they would be very interested and its just not us tagging along with them all the time.
I think the GP meet would be good as Im sure we would have a few interstate/international members/guests that would love to show up as well. Also thinking about getting some nice shirts and prehaps hats that made up for the meet, get some really nice ones with a few logos printed/badges on them, in around the AUD40 or so mark. Was thinking of trying to get some sponsors onboard for the meet as well which could be good. Any thoughts would be great.

Adam,
I'm going to S'pore and Malaysia for 3 weeks so car mod shopping is off the plan at this stage. :icon_bigg Besides i had already installed a set of new lowered springs with Bilstein B8 struts last week so i'm still on a high at the moment.
So much better around the curvy staff ,sure footed and well planted, no more floaty sensation but quite a bit firmer around town at low speed, esp with 40 profile tyre .Hope the ride will improve a little with more kms through the shocks but that's a compromise i can live with.
Another suggestion for the drive day is Black Spur, not too far away from Melbourne.
I would have like to go to Mt Buller Hill Climb on the Australian Day long weekend to see the SA backed car in action but can't due to travel.
There's article in the H. Sun's Car section today reporting SA entering a hot rod 300KW Impreza STI piloted by Dean Herridge to challenge all the Porsches.
I was under the impresison from earlier articles that SA will use a Liberty GT but i guess the STI will have a better chance against all those Porsche GT3.
jasper

12-30-2005, 05:23 AM
Hmm interesting post Jasper I have to say.
Im sure the springs will have a bit of give in them as they travel thru lifecycle.
300Kw in an STi, impressive to say the least. The GT3 is a sensationally quick car as a stock unit, so you would need 300+ just to keep pace lol.
Thanks for the info and enjoy yr holiday when U do get there.

Thanks Adam.
I'm going through some of Paul's old messages here slowly and have found a sound clip of the version 2 of their AVO twin muffler for Liberty. Doesn't sound as nice as the version 1 but that could be the poor quality recording.
I then rang AVO Cheltenham and spoke to Lee but was told that they don't stock this at the moment and will likely to cost about US$250 to get the Cat back exhaust from Japan. I think that kills it for me.

Theoretically yes as the club is supplying BBQ, liability insurance cover as a CAMS sanctioned social event (I believe) and prizes etc. for the benefit of its members.
The details are on the forum in The WRX Club.
Will be bigger than Ben Hur...if the day is fine. Should be some s hot machinery there!
Good publicity for the marque as the park cannot be missed.

Hiya. I'm a "n00b" here. Just a quick question.. What are good tyres? I bought my Liberty recently and it come with Falken ZE326 tyres. They don't really grip too well in the wet [several low speed slides from soft to medium braking and been sideways 3 times now]. I'm kinda thinking of investing in Bridgestone Potenza G3 or Goodyear F1 Eagle as they won the tyre awards in Wheels & Motor magazine.
Any opinions?
Other than that my car is running great (o:

Aki, I went in to Subaru on the 7/12/05 to order a Urban Gray and discovered a black had come back onto the list (right place @ the right time) I pondered for about 2 seconds and decided to go with the black.:)
