To get the tuned by STi badge I'm kinda guessing you're gonna need a screwdriver and then NEVER show it on here LOL - they are supposed to be exclusive to the cars? I'm actually toying with asking if I can get mine supplied to stay at home to stop thieves.

Rob (Tinter) might have some ideas on where to get the badges

those GT badges are on www.japanparts.com (http://www.japanparts.com) and then follow the menu options.

Also get the standard GT badges at www.tuningspec.com (http://www.tuningspec.com)
Hands off those "tuned by STi" badges though, they are sacred ground!

ozgt... what do you mean they are sacred ground :P

I just figure that we're paying a $6500 premium for those badges! So that makes them pretty sacred.... If I ever decide to debadge mine I'll let you know. You can have them for half price!

I'd be mightily peeved to see those badges on anything other than the real deal!

The offical word from Subaru Australia is that the Tuned by STi badges can only be ordered with the STi. Meaning, if one has to be replaced, the VIN number of the STi must be used to reorder.

Apparently STi Japan/Australia are taking a very very hard line on ppl ordering STi parts for non genuine STi's and as such regardless if u own a Liberty STi or a WRX STi, you will be no longer able to purchase STi Authorised parts without a VIN number.

Subaru is going the same way BMW has with its ///M series. No one can order any CSL parts unless they have an authorised/approved VIN number.

But what about sourcing the badge from one of the other STi parts vendors? SA's offerings of STI parts is so very limited anyway and quite expensive too.

STi Vendors will always exist on some level but for genuine approved parts, you will have to order via an authorised STi dealer with a VIN Number.

No, you don't - i'll give you two reasons:

1) Subaru does not exclusively sell parts and accessories only through its dealers (trade and retail) and therefore cannot control who buys the parts.

2) All STI parts are the same - approved by SA or not, no matter where you buy it it is the same part and you don't need a VIN to buy the parts - all you need is the model of the car and version.

I do know that for some parts, you do need a VIN to bring up the part numbers on but thats all - you don't have to prove that you own the car.

I think you'll find the price for STi parts keeps people from buying them anyway

Price of the STI parts from SA? yeah, i'm with you on that one! But STi parts are actually very well priced considering that they are a "factory works" product. All the STi parts I have bougt cost the same as a comparable product.

I've bypassed SA too to get some STi parts to save some $ . Either via a local middle man with contacts in Japan or from some net vendour.

Hi Mo,
how much did the Futjisubo exhaust set you back last year? if you don't mind me asking.

jasper

p/s- BTW, I wouldn't try to get a "Tuned by STi" badge if you haven't got the genuine article.

Totally agree, like when ppl put a ///M badge on a 318, it just looks so wrong.
And if STi have their way, trust me when I say that only STi approved and genuine parts will be sold either out of Japan or Australia by approved dealerships or franchises. It may have not been this way in the past but in the future, it will be.

That doesn't matter any way as all the STi parts that i have bought have come out of a Japanese STI parts dealer. Only issue is the VIN that you mentioned before, but then again once you have the part number, you don't need a VIN.

Jasper, i'll PM the cost.

If u can get it..... go for it. Im just saying that this is the line they are taking.
Curious Mo, what can U get from OS, do U have a catalog of parts? PM me. TIA

tuningspec.com have a pretty good range of genuine and aftermarket parts. I havent tried them personally but have heard that they are quite reputable. Based in Hong Kong (I think) http://www.tuningspec.com (http://www.tuningspec.com)

i got a quote for the sti gear knob pedal set, and a little gt badge from tuningspec, and it was heaps cheaper than getting the knob and pedal set from subrau...i know there not 'parts' as such, but there you go...

I have used tuningspec on 2 occasions for small items. On the 1st occasion, they sent me a wrong footrest pedal (Impreza's ) and after a delay of 3 months,i decided to asked for a replacement and they have no hesitation in doing that for me. Reputable guys but the EMS cost for big item can be a killer.

You can get the parts you speak of through AVO turboworld in Japan.
I have already spoken to Ross Wilson (Aussie living in Japan) working for AVO and he verified that.

Will go thru AVO again now.. see what's cooking on there end of the stick :)

I think $51 is much more reasonable than the $300 for a Docklands knob...

LOL how about those $400 locknuts too!

agctr
01-14-2006, 09:02 PM
Yeah not sure its genuine though to be honest.
Ive seen the one at Docklands and Im sure the STi logo is pressed into the top and not printed but for the cost, it certainly looks like a bargin. As Ive said before, I think this one might be a bit small in the hand. I too really like the locknuts as well but for 400+ I dont like them that much. Curious how much they would mark taking them on and off ?

SA will probably remove the STi logo with Photoshop prior to delivery and blame a "factory error" anyway....

Hey guys..

Got a STI Titanium Gear Knob... in my MY06 GT.. I try un-screwing the knob but seems it's like the hole thing that comes undone? and not just the gear knob? And the leather boot is attached to it??

Can anyone help? want to put this gear knob on hehe :)

Cheers
Mano

All you need to do is lever off the leather boot from the old knob...if you look at the new knob, there is a white nylon ring which the leatherboot fits over to hold it tight agains the new knob....(so much opportunity for double entendre) Its the same system with the old knob...good luck...

now if anyone can tell me how to get the 'sti' accelerator pedal on, i would be most greatful...i have got the clutch and brake pedal sorted, but am struggling with the japanases instructions for the footrest and accelerator!

The footrest STI pedal can't be fitted to the GT auto.
You have to replace the whole carpet or some such BS.

???? i put the sti footrest pedal on my auto GT, and i was easy, you have to pull the top of it out about 5mm and hook the top over the sti rest over it and the little steel bracket (with 2 screw holes) sits under the bottom of the normal rest and screw in on. don't forget to remove the tape on the back of the sti footrest. and bam its done. it would of been easier if i could read the japanese instructions.

Well that's puzzling because I got that info from the parts guy whilst he was on his microfish at Subaru.
Also STI Melb said the same thing.
We are talking genuine gear huh?

yeah it's the real deal. i got it from japanparts.com. i get most of my stuff through them. it only took me a couple of goes to get the sti footrest fitted. it was easier than putting the accerater pedal on.
