Hello, and let me THANK YOU!!!!!

To whoever created this site because i've been visting wrxlinks.com trying to talk to ppl about the new legacy and i kept getting ignored because most of those wrx owners are stuck up about them... even tho the legacy is 10x better!!!

So thanks alot!!

Anyways, i just joined this forum so heres a lil info about me and why i am here...

I am gonna be 17 wen i get a car, which will be in february. I live in MASS and ive been checking out cars with AWD so they can deal with our dumb climate...

SO i checked out the legacy and immedately (sp?) fell in love with it!!

My question i guess is mainly about the aftermarket upgrades...

I dont really plan on racing the car frequently however ide love to blow some idiots off, and you can do it stock in this car i guess too but i was wondering if anyone has done anything to theirs?

I guess i am just asking for general information and how everyone loves there legacy...

FYI, i am aiming for the 2.5 gt limited sedan!!! (you guys like the optional spoiler?)

excited I see.

Well, welcome to the board...and as the car is fairly new, there are only a handful of aftermarket products available, and I am sure more will be on the way.

Good luck, and "SEARCH" will really help.

peace,
i.

true...strange how the addictions happen so quick.

Anyway, I am still waiting for a LGT 5MT in silver (non-ltd) and have a few installed options on it. Hoping to have it in about a couple of weeks...and will be giving up the WRX, which has served me well, in multiple instances.

Anyway, good luck...and there is a thread about STi uppipes that you might like, in the turboed forum.

And what tls said...17 and that type of car? man...I wish I could have been rich as a youngster....

Later,
i.

Hmmmm...I think the WRX would better fit your style based on how you plan on using the car. I wish I could've afforded such a car when I was your age but then maybe it was better that I couldn't.

Oh guys don't take this the wrong way....

I didnt mean to come off acting ignorant or anything, yeah my grandfather is laying out like 25-30k for a car but he bought all 3 other grandchildren cars too....

But.... i currently have 2 jobs and work 40-60 hrs a week during the summer...

But yeah it is really awesome, and thanks inthedeck for the uppipe im gonna go check that out...

Also i have another question...

When you redline a car... or get it into the moderate red line zone..will the engine start getting hurt or what? I just read a post saying the top speed is 152 mph at 6252 rpm or somthing like that which i belive is over the redline but not by much.....

Thanks again everyone

TeeLoo... i said i "dont really plan on racing the car" but arent the legacy and WRX specs on 0-60 pretty much the same... (within 1/10th)?

JW cuz most of the info i read a while ago

unfortunately, the car is limited to 130. The rest is up to how it's tuned.

As for the specs...well, that still remains to be seen...not many concrete numbers yet - besides some dyno runs, etc.

Alex1, since you still have about 6 months until you get a new Subaru, why not join www.IMBA.com now so you can get VIP (invoice) pricing in Feb 2005?

You are so lucky to get a brand new car at 17, I only got an used Celica GT when I was 19!

when you redline the car the fuel gets cut off so the car doesn't accel anymore.

sweeet....damn tho i'de hafta buy it at the subaru dealer because if i joined tommorrow or some day soon, 6 months would be around the week i get my car, so we wouldnt be able to pre-order it according to what i want :-/ ill check it out with my father though, thanks alot for the info!!

gt ltd, i assume u have a gt ltd lol, do you love it? haha

I am really trying to decide between a suv like an explorer or yukon or a sedan, sedans seem to be all around better also because they are within the price range and yukons start at like 35k

Alex1
08-19-2004, 10:07 PM
kaygt...i assume your correct but then how can the engine go above the first 6000 rpm limit thing... or does it and the 6-9k rpm in the redline just for show?

gt_ltd
08-19-2004, 10:13 PM
how about having someone else order the car with the options you want, and then cancel the order 1 week before it arrives, then you show up and take it? :P

no I don't have a gt, yet.

why gas-guzzling suv? do you have too much money to burn, or a wife + few kids already (or planning to have some soon), or want to help people move all the time?

inthedeck
08-19-2004, 10:13 PM
redline is at 6500 RPM, IIRC. Fuel cut WILL happen at that point (unless tuned with mods) and the car will NOT go above 6500 RPM!

It is a 'gt' not a WRX STi (which has a completely different purpose, powerband, etc.). The legacy is made for touring, hence, GT.

ooh i had no idea im not really knowledable about engines and stuff but thanks for the clarification...

and gt_ltd, i just like being able to "go any where through anything" and not be worried about botteming out.... also i might need to tow a boat a 16 ft little sea ray but then we have a 30 ft boat that i guess u could trailer with a yukon... ahhhh too many things to think about lol

This car seems to cut off fuel right at the beginning of redline at 6500 I haven't gone up much but thats what I've seemed to noitce. On the 330 I can go into redline a little before it cuts off. All manufacturers are different with their redlines and the actual fuelcutoff.

Alex1
08-19-2004, 10:27 PM
oh, well thanks for the info i had no idea, i thought it would just keep revving till it burned out or somthing lol....

and ordering the car and canceling just seems slimy lol, ide do it but it takes to much work....

Alex1, welcome aboard. By reading your posts, it feels like you're an excited little chihuahua just thinking about your next car. I love it. There is very little available for the US model so far, so we will have to wait until more products come out. I'm more than positive that the stock car alone will be more than enough to keep your driving talent busy for quite a while. For later, you can probably expect that a full exhaust and computer to be putting power around 320hp aka. way more than enough. After that would come bigger turbo, intercooler, fuel injectors and all kinds of expensive stuff. :D

btw, if you only had a chance to browse for about an hour, there is a ton more information that you'll find helpful. Keep browsing and just reading our old conversations. You'll be better for it. ;)

Do yourself a favor, if your grandfather is willing to dish out $30K to each of his grand kids, be smart.

Find a leftover 2004 WRX on a lot. You could get it for about $21K easy.
Then ask if you can have the other $9K and put it into some sort of interest making account.

At 17 y.o. you don't need a Legacy GT.
Like the other poster said, you'd be more fit for a WRX.
And when you realize you have $9K sitting in an interest account to be used how you'd like, you'll love that much more.
True the WRX isn't as fast as the Legacy GT, but add a $250 intake and a $750 exhaust and it will be close enough.

Guys, lets take the age out of the equation. Alex1, you'd be smart to just not even reference that point. OK? Old farts like us get sensitive because we know how we were at 17 and how the majority of kids your age behave especially in their cars. Driver72, I'm guessing that if Alex is fortunate enough to get the car, his granddad might have more than $9000 saved up to give him later on. I don't think it's right to tell somebody that they don't need to be getting a Legacy just because they mentioned their age and an interest in modifying it any way like most of us have already thought of already ourselves. I am guessing that like similar situations I've known people in, he's getting the car alone, not a car plus whatever cash up to $30k.

PPower - some people *cough* just like to pontificate.

Alex1 - the WRX STi may be more your style. It's fast, seats 4, but still reliable and safe.

That said, the larger sedan is more "sophisticated", and perhaps a better ride for dates now and college later.

I just got my GT, and I love it. I tried the WRX, but practicality and the classier look of the GT Ltd won me over.

Hahahahahahahahaha that is the funniest thing I've heard on the boards so far. Alex1, I'm 19 and all I have to say you are really lucky to have someone that is willing to spend that much money so you could have a choice in cars so early in your life.

Thank you ppower for taking age out. I agree that soem teenagers aren't mature enough for a responsibility of ANY car exspecially one of such power such as the wrx/ legacy. I would like to think i am more mature then other kids, and i am a little. I have been drivig my dads Audi a4 roadster which is little more flashy then some cars so i try to make up for it by not driving as fast so people dont say, oh look at that retarded teenager f*ck him..ect.... so yes i have tried to be mature and to drive with my head....

Moving on, i do agree with mindflay by saying the legacy is more sophisticated, which is why i love it so much. Its a sleeper of sorts, i geuss.

The STI is WAAAYYY to powerful though. Even my grandfather and my dad pretty much said no when they saw it and talked to the sales person at subaru. But in all honesty, you really couldnt pull up to a girls house to take her on a date and say that her parents would be over joyed to let their daughter get in a car that has a huge wing on it ect.... It just looks dangerous... The legacy is almost as equally powerful, yet it is mroe refined and resembles the Audi TT ect....

You all know this but its nice to get it out too....

Driver72--- It would be a good idea to hae money left over, most people tell my to use it in mods, your the first person to tell me to save it. However, i am not aloud to keep the "Extra" money because my grandather is trying to spend as little as he can.... Stock market and other things have been sucking lately so hes not to happy about spending 25-30k. Buutttt.. if he is going to dish out that kinda money i am gonna use some of my own and buy what i want, and 9k is somewhat alot, i made 5 g this summer lifeguarding andw orking at a local intown store.... Sooo whatever....

Now my hands hurt im gonna continue reading all the other posts, so good morning to all and ill check back later!

It's good you're trying to be mature about everything. That is one of the most important things our age, especially when looking for a nice car. I come from a pretty affluent neighborhood and I had a friend who got a last-gen. M3 (E36). Now that car was bad ass and my friend thought he was the sh!t with that car. Now everyone pretty much hates him because he's been so cocky with his Abercrombie attire, his modeling pictures, and him thinking he "owns" the road.

Just wondering, does someone in your family have money saved up for you for college? The reason I'm asking is because if the answer is no, it would be best to put it towards that. My parents have to put me and my sister in college because we don't have a lot in the stock market because like you said it's sucking and it really sucks because only my dad works. But regardless, you're probably like me. I know that it's not the best investment, but I still want a Legacy :D.

haha axis, my family like my mom and dad and my sister, we definitly dont have alot of money. My dad has his own managment bussiness so we arent on a morgage or anything but we arent wealthy, we are middle class i guess... My grandfather used to have a lot of money and still does but not as much now...

Still my parents got help with college by my grandparents and my aunt... my aunt started the puzzle company CEACO which a few years ago bought the kids game company Gamewright....

So shes doing ok ;-) she wont help pay for a car tho, she doesnt think its right im getting one lol

ANY ONE WANT SOME PUZZLES OR GAMES? lol
