Just wanted to let everyone know if they are looking for a good Tuner, Ed is the guy. On Saturday I had my 05 WRX road tuned and had Ed's own special EQ map installed. Ed of Equilibrium tuning www.EQTuning.com (http://www.EQTuning.com) is a perfectionist. This guy knows what he's doing. I am waiting on my UP pipe for my LGT, so the LGT will be going to Ed next for the fine tuning and EQ map. I just wanted to let everyone know I recommend Ed 110% for road or pro tuning. It is worth every penny having ED do your road tune. We spent a good 1 1/2 hours driving so he could get everything perfect. Staging your vehicle without a proper road tune makes no sense and that was proved to me yesterday. By the way, thanks to Jeremy of Crucial racing for recommending Ed.

No problem. Glad you enjoyed the experience! Ed is definitely a talented tuner and he's definitely a perfectionist. I was really happy that I decided to give 'the small guy' a chance instead of going back to one of the 'larger' local tuners that I had used before (who gave me a wonderful tune also, just not EQ caliber :p ).

Good to know. So, round about $250 according to his site? What is this about about the 3-port boost control solenoid upgrade? Haven't heard much about that before.

It's the GM boost control solenoid. Can be picked up cheaply at GM dealerships or NAPA (I believe it's an AC Delco part), but Ed offers them pre-wired with appropriate resistor (because they are made to operate on a different voltage from the stock solenoid) and the price includes installation. He apparently does them very clean, heat shrinked, OEM-looking, etc. He is an electrical/software engineer, after all
Anyway, it's an interrupt device instead of a bleed device like the stocker, so it's capable of MUCH better boost response and control, and it can usually hold much more pressure towards redline. Because it can keep the wastegate literally 100% shut, something the stocker isn't normally capable of doing, spool-up time can be noticeably reduced.
Basically it's just like the Perrin EBCS but for a fraction of the price (GM can be had for ~ $15. The extra charged by Ed is for the professional install w/ resistor, etc)... Definitely worth it. Ed w/ an aftermarket solenoid found about 400-500 rpm quicker spool w/ my VF22 ... most people don't see 19 psi with this turbo (on the EJ20) until close to 4000 rpm. I was making 19 at 3450... I think half was the solenoid and half was a really good tune.
Sorry for the novel!
Jeremy
edit: oh yeah, he actually uses the factory GM harness for the install, which is another ~ $20 from a dealership. That way it plugs in and one doesn't have to solder the wires directly to the posts on the solenoid.

Hey Ray,
I'm glad you and your wife are enjoying the tune. I'm looking forward to working on your LGT.
As far as the solenoid, as Jeremy said, its the GM solenoid manufactured by AC Delco. My price may seem a bit high, but I include the solenoid, wiring harness (which costs more than the actual solenoid), assembly with the propper resistor, quality boost hoses and full installation in the price. I barely make enough off the solenoids to make the assembly and installation worth it, so I consider it to be a fair price. I always welcome customers to buy the parts and do the isntallation themselves as it generally makes my life a bit easier ;)
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to e-mail me. I'm always happy to help.
Thanks
