Excellent work! I'm thinking about buying the JDM bezel as my plastic fabbing skills are no where to be found. The circuit board grafting project, piece of cake, and you are proof that all of the traces can be jumpered as necessary.
I'm also going to try and put my Kenwood Nav up in the cubby and use the 06 OEM NAV bezel to trim it out. Just need to stop by a dealership and get the screen dimensions to make sure the Kenwood will clear. My project doesn't really require that the stock radio be removed, I just can't sleep at night with two radios in the car.

You are a crazy mon! Nice work though. The end result looks awesome. What did you use to reshape the faceplate? It doesn't look like fiberglass...
For a one-off, custom job it's a fantastic feat of jumpering severed traces, but others might already be underestimating how challenging a task that is...unless you're 100% willing to junk your factory AC/radio, take his advice & don't try this at home eh.
Kudos again to your hard work though. Enjoy your fancy new radio :)

thanks for all the good feed backs.. i would love to make alots of money doing this for the members here.. but its not that simple... it's not 100% bullet proof yet.. theres alots of modifacations need too be done in order to fit the other half of the face panel & half of the stock radio in there.... and yes all the functions work on the control a/c panel. i cant take the risk of screwing up someone elses stereo.... but thanks agin

I can understand you not wanting to the risks on, but what about helping us out, by doing the write up and putting in a liability warning that those that follow it do so at their own risk. I'm sure we can get folks to follow it that aren't afraid to solder on a circuit board as well as cut it. You can charge for each edition of the write up that you send out and can make some money while doing something for your fellow LGT owners that will make us very happy to have you as one of our own that helped us out of a situation that SOA put us in that we are not happy with?

acutally, with so much excitement... you guys are not really asking all the right questions, IMO.
1. Why do you think the climate control is dependent of the HU?
2. Can the HU be bypassed by creating another board that perhaps the stock radio harness can be plugged into?
The idea is this. You know how to make the double DIN hole and what not. And there are people like jazzymt that are quite good at making boards.
What I picture here is this:
Wouldn't it be possible to have a core obtained for exchanges?
Take that core, and jazzymt could possibly design a board that taps all the right areas in the climate control for power, have them go into the board, then have plugs on the board for both the stock radio harness, and speaker wire plugs to tap into from the new aftermarket radio.
Its work, but there seems to be people here ready to shell out the type of cash needed.
Any thoughts?
jsalicru is actually right on this. That's the way to do it. If someone can create a board that's somewhat of a "plug and play" type thing. I'd buck up the cash for that no problems without a 2nd thought. (reasonably, I'm not paying $2k or something insane like that.) How's does that sound "thread creator"? Let us know. I'd be willing to donate to the cause here.

actually, THE very best solution is to get the JDM double din unit to work with a board in between. Im sure it can be done.
Anyone ever thought about checking to see if Australia Subaru has PDF files for the service manual just like SOA?
I have 2 problems with using the jdm part. 1) I want my temps to be in faheriheit (spelling?) & not celsius. 2) I like the dual zone. I'm all usdm or nothing. I'd rather go with the manual a/c controls than the JDM.

This is a pipedream! I gave up on even trying to do this. As a result I am installing a screen in the cubby hole for my navigation, sat. radio and backup camera. Running JL Cleansweep and new BA Speakers. Topped of with a couple of alpine amps and a 10" JL Sub. Personally I think that having a screen where the radio is might be a little low and distracting especially with a MT. I am getting my car back this week and will post some pictures.

<snip>1. Why do you think the climate control is dependent of the HU?<snip>
I have looked enough at Vacation Pictures to know that some of the buttons on the head unit are used for diagnostic functions of the climate control system. Other than that I don't know.
If you separate the two units, you lose the self-diagnostic function of the ACC system.

I assume all that was done was cut the ckt board, and reconnect the traces with wires. Its just lots of traces to solder.
