What's a favicon? (I'm guessing my chances are slim)

what size do you want? 16x16 , 32x32, or 64x64?

or does it matter to you?

Well, since the L7 idea is already taken I guess mine doesn't qualify. lol I think that one would be tight. Here is my submission for that one. This is the official 16x16 favicon size. http://tinypic.com/f1b0jt.png

Here are my other ideas...

I'll try and think a little more. I'm sure I can come up with something better...

I don't know which looks better... this http://tinypic.com/f1b6hh.png or this http://tinypic.com/f1b6rm.png. It is supposed to be a turbo. Hard to tell that small though...

You're doing a nice job on this, OC! Keep 'em coming! The Subaru emblem one might cause a trademark problem, though.

All I can think of are smartass ones that I'm not even going to post, because I don't want to piss off Tide.

OK, this isn't very imaginative, but what about just a mini picture of the car that's in the upper left of the site? Or a front-on view showing the scoop?

Simply because 16x16 is a really small area for something that needs that much detail. This is what the car would look like: http://tinypic.com/f1bcrc.png Just showing the scoop would look look even worse. It would just be a blob with a dark line. It is just too small to get any detail. Even simple front views of cartoon cars don't work very well. http://tinypic.com/f1bd69.png. If it could be bigger then we might could use one of those cartoon legacys, but it is just too small to see what it is.

I think my favorite one so far is OC's "LGT" one.

Yeah, you're right. I think that's why I like your LGT one. It's simple, and clear, and it's specific to our cars. The turbo and wheels are cool in theory, but they could be from any car, even an SRT-4:lol:

I thought of that, but I couldn't find a good picture of a stock wheel. That one looks good though.

I like the slanted LGT one too. Only, it would be better if it were slanted ascending instead of descending. That way, it flows with the forward slashes in the URL.

OCDetails
10-27-2005, 01:40 PM
ah, you mean starting in the bottom left corner and going up to the top right? I could try that. Most people feel more comfortable reading down though. That is why book spines are designed to have the words going from the top to thet bottom. It never hurts to slap it up by a URL and see how it looks though. :)

Strokemouth
10-27-2005, 04:26 PM
Hmm. That's a good point. However, in this application, I don't think the favicon is used as being informative, rather it is more for aesthetics. That's why I think it would "flow" better with the forward slashes found in the URL.

But, then again, I'm just a network admin and have no real art skills, so I could just be talking out the pooper. :)

Here's your problem. IE has a hard time with favicons. Use Firefox instead.
